Not that one. Get Legend of Legaia.
Best battle theme incoming

> Not that one
But I just bought it bro. Why legaia?
I liked LoD. Never finished it because I didn't stock up on enough healing items and couldn't beat the last boss' final form because of it. Put the game aside for a while and when I came back my save was lost.
Still, good game. Had a german version so I didn't even suffer the horrible VA you guys did. German Lenus was literally voiced by a man in her first boss fight, though. Not even a man trying to sound like a woman, it was a man making man fighting sounds. It was horrible because that fight was also hard as fuck and had to be restarted so many times.
Not other user but it had a cool battle system
What are you talking about American VA was tops.
Dem attack call outs!
Last boss is literally nauseating. Could barely make it through, and it took like 45 minutes.
Awesome game though, some parts were legitimately fucking difficult.
My personal list of essentials:
Suikoden 1&2
Breath of Fire III
Xenogears
Legend of Legaia
Star Ocean 2
Alundra
Final Fantasy VII
Chrono Cross
Vagrant Story
And Tactical RPGs with political themes:
Final Fantasy Tactics
Vandal Hearts 1
Front Mission 3
That AND Legend of Legaia.
Breath of Fire too.
Legend of Mana as well.
Valkyria Profile is great but kinda hard to get into compared to other games.
That's not even touching Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.
Chrono Cross is highly underrated.
God damn thats neat. What the fuck happened to video games? We never have full budget shit like this anymore
Legaia has a fun battle system, LoD's is just repetitive. The setting in Legaia is pretty straighforward, but it's far less of a cheesy caricature than LoD's; Legaia is like an enjoyable 90s heroic anime, while LoD tries really hard to be epic and fails.
>play it back in the day with a scratched disc from a rental
>last boss is glitched to all hell and I have no idea what the hell I'm doing through the entire battle.
Also, I forgot to add Grandia I. Voice acting might be a bit grating at times but it's definitely worth it.
this list with Valkyrie Profile and Grandia. might as well add some Lunar there
Legend of Mana sucks the shit right out of the ass. Get that sentimental crap outta here.
Valkyrie Profile and Grandia are memes.
No it doesn't
your taste is a meme
Definely not LotD, the most generic and irrelevant of them all. God, that game was awful.
So do I just drop LoD? Playing through the beginning and it seems fine, but I also have limited time and would rather not get into something that falls flat later
Only have access to whats on the PSN store as well
Chrono Cross is violently overrated, rather.
>Breath of Fire III
It's good, but it's not amazing. The master and apprentice shit requires you to have a serious case of autism for it to be worth even considering.
Breath of Fire 3 & 4
Tales of Destiny
Tales of Eternia
Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9
Jade Cocoon
Lunar Silver Star Story
Einhander (not a jrpg but goddamn I love that game)
Dragoon is probably the more more serious and "western"-like in tone of the games suggested in this thread so far. It is quite good, and its combat system makes use of timed hits, which is always a plus, but if time is a concern, you should probably play through Legend of Legaia first, since unless memory fails Dragoon is remarkably long.
It certainly shouldn't be abandoned forever though. You can go either way, although Legaia has a more lighthearted tone and arguably better [although more cliche] story and world.
LoD only gets better as you go. It's long, but the beginning portion is the weakest part. So if you liked it then, you'll enjoy completing it.
Yeah, I could see those flaws in LOD. You're still fag though.
Think I'll settle on Vagrant story since all these other games aren't on psn and cost alot on amazon atm
Also how's that game Azure Dreams?
