Yakuza 3

This game is boring as fuck. I'm in chapter 10 and it's the weakest game in the series out of what I played.

Feels like a babysitting simulator with beat em up side game. Not that I didn't like some of the Asagao scenes and lots of Haruka is always good but it just drags on so much.

I feel you.

I liked 1 & 2 but I dropped this one after 6 hours and never bothered with the rest of the series.

yak 3 is considered the worst one by many so you're not the only one thinking this, i personally liked it.

Is it really that bad? It seems like it's very hard to mess up the foundation the prior two games left. Surely the characters are all still built on, Kamuro has a bunch of new shops to go to, and a bunch more sub stories, right?

Not that I hate it but I got myself hyped towards it after playing Kenzan and waiting to see how a mainline game with the new engine was and am just kind of disappointed.

Story is boring as hell. None of the sidequests are that interesting and you spend a good amount of time out of Kamuro and there's nothing that interesting to do.

I did like the hostess game and seeing Kamuro in it's "new-gen" form was pretty hype too. Combat improved but it doesn't feel like the huge jump I was expecting, though that's mostly my problem.

Its my favorite currently.

Story may be lacking but.
>Combat because much better
>I liked the finishers, especially super hells floor
>The OST is the best in the series
>Underground colliseum

Kareoke sucks in this one because its basic so play 4 for kareoke then 5 has way better hostess mechanics(and girls) than 4.

>because
*becomes

>but it doesn't feel like the huge jump I was expecting, though that's mostly my problem.
Could be because everyone says the originals are just awful when it comes to combat, but the improvements seem to be incremental and just building on the old system rather than changing everything all the time.

I'm honestly just expecting more of what Kenzan brought to the table in terms of moving the camera, more areas, stuff like that.

Kenzan blew my mind after playing Yakuza 1&2 HD. The models, the graphics, barely no loading times and transitions were smooth as fuck.

I was hoping the combat would be more varied, Kenzan lacking abilities and combos was okay by me because you had several different fighting styles and weapons but I feel like Yakuza 3 is kind of lacking in that department. You got some extra combos but I was expecting more cool finishers and stuff.

Honestly, not really that much complaints about the combat itself but more about the game.

Yakuza 3's definitely the weakest in the series. Like, the gameplay is a bit more smooth than 2, but not nearly the step that 1 to 2 is, and the story is a huge retarded dropoff and pacing's terrible.

Luckily 4 to 5 to Ishin has been nothing but improvements each time. Gonna be importing 6 and buying the english 0 on release and go nuts.

I played 1 & 2 HD before I jumped to Kenzan earlier this week, it's great.

>Those amazing backdrops on everything.
>The amount of different and varied areas you can visit.
>The shift between cutscenes and voiced scenes.
>Actually getting to turn the camera around most of the time instead of getting told you can't do it and wondering why they let it happen in the first place.
>The crazy amount of Heat actions for all the weapons.
>The Kabuki minigame and Musashi playing along with it to beat some guys up.
>That hilarious look when Musashi does a revelation and his head just shoots up into the sky as if everything in his life is leading up to that point.
>Minigame requirements for upgrades don't make you want to die.
>Gion in general is amazing to walk through.
>Those flute and drum guys that wander around Gion.
>The chili girl's entire sub story.
>That fight with Itou and the amazing castanets in the background.

Kenzan's enemies and that one guy who walks around in the suburbs to chase you may piss me off, but it gets so much right. Shame they were still all over the place with a couple things being missable, but overall they did a great job. I just got to the part where Haruka might be related to Ukiyo right after the Tsuruya burned to the ground.

I know what you mean, Kenzan is fantastic. To me it felt very unfinished because it ends pretty suddenly and it scale felt small compared to Yakuza 1 and 2 but it's a damn good game.

Hey man before jumping to Yakuza 3 I say play the PSP spin-off, Black Panther. The first game is also amazing.

I'm going to wait until KHH finishes the translation patch with the dudes on GBATemp first, and I'm taking a break after Kenzan, 100% three of these games in a row is enough to burn me out for a while. Not to mention I'm sick of Japanese menus man, I just want to read it without a guide.

I did the same not too long ago and now I'm playing Y3 so I know what you're saying. Going to take quite a break after Y3.

The PSP spin-offs are pretty damn different to the console games so you wouldn't feel as burned out but yeah.

Really? I was looking at the khhs subs for kenzans prolouge and the cutscene animations feel off somehow. The battle movement animations seem fine though as I guess they were re-used in 3.

Should I skip 3?
I'm going through 2 right now and was planning to get 3 and 4 after beating it (already got 5)

Cutscenes feel a tiny bit off but then they start looking great, a lot of the fight cutscenes and most of the chatting ones are great as well. The biggest problem is when thye switch to the voiced scenes from a cutscene, it's not like in 0 where it does it very smoothly, here it's like a cutscene, then a black screen, then it resumes, then it cuts back to a cutscene.

Just be forewarned that if you're going to get Kenzan that KHH only did the subs for the main story and chapter 5 stuff. Everything else is left to ThePatrick's guide on GameFAQs who uses a bunch of area names that KHH doesn't and only gives brief summaries on sub stories so that's really the best you have.

Adding to that however I noticed ancient kiryu generally has a more smug and energetic(or maybe happier) voice than in any other game. Its cool.

If you enjoy the combat of 2 then dont skip it if you already have the game. It has pacing issues but is still very fun.

...

Musashi doesn't really feel happier than Kiryu. When he's with Majima or Ukiyo he seems like he's happier than usual, but for most of the game he feels more serious and more "I'm just tired of all this nonsense" during all the scenes so far.

Nah I don't own 3 yet.

Musashi did have some pretty smug moments.

It's still worth getting. I mean, I was just at a really boring part when I made this thread but after that it got interesting again. Pacing is terrible but the game is still worth getting.

Also, skipping games is unexcusable.

Yeah I guess so. Just wanted to be sure.

>doing this Heat Action by accident and having to sit through all of this

Just finished 5 and the amount of times that happened instead of just doing the launch strike thing is mental, got pretty annoying

>Heat Actions where you have to mash a button
>Is only good if you mash for your entire Heat bar and does next to no damage outside of that.
