Why does this game already look outdated?

Bethesda games always look like trash, even on release day.

Bethesda games usually look good enough on release so as not to offend anyone. But after a year or two, it but comes clear that the game's graphics are aging poorly. That's because Bethesda does JUST enough in development to make the graphics look contemporary but they stop there and don't focus on graphics any further which results in a game that looks clunky very quickly.

It still looks pretty good for a Bethesda game

Why do they get away with it? I don't really recall any other "AAA" developer doing this.
