PC Gaming A Meme?

As someone who likes growing my wealth and saving money, what is the allure of PC gaming?
>$1500 of parts
>assemble over 4 hours
>1 year later, part/parts is obsolete
>buy new part
>1 year later, part/parts is obsolete
>buy new part
>it's worth it to play (insert game) on ultra instead of very high

vs.

>$400 up front
>6-8 years of playing the exact same games with nearly the same graphics
>only thing that costs more money is paying for the best exclusives (Last of Us, Uncharted, Bloodborne, ect ect ect)

Is wasting money the best way to solve an inferiority complex???

>buy an $800 pc 3 years ago
>runs anything i want and still works fine

if youre good at saving money then having a decent pc and a ps4 should be easy to afford.

console/pc wars are strictly for children and thirdworlders

unng uNNGGGNGNNN *shits everywhere all over your post*

>invest around 1200 on computer over the past 6 years
>most recent upgrade was a gtx 770 2 years ago
>everything runs just fine with no issues

you're just a faggot, OP.

>part becomes obsolete after 1 year

No it doesn't. Just because something faster comes out doesn't mean it's obsolete.

>buy a pc
> overly expensive, no games
>buy a ps4
>overly expensive, no games
>buy an xbone
>overly expensive, no games
>buy a switch
>wahoo
All gaming is a meme

*tips fedora* good one kind sir

you're right, its not worth it, stick to consoles :^)

If you make a PC with all the state of the art parts it'll last literally last you years.
Consoles won't be out pacing it for basically a decade.

Also when you invest in a PC you litereally get THOUSANDS OF GAMES for FREE if you decide to go that route.
That coupled with emulation can litereally LAST YOU A LIFE TIME.
Forget about exclusive because there isn't anything worth buying a single console over.
The only argument would be Nintendo but look at CEMU. It'll be perfected in less than a year.

No, but the ability to run new games at the highest settings (the whole advantage of PC gaming) doesn't last long.

HHAHAHA $1200? Shit man I'd rather out 400 towards a PS4/XBONE and spend the rest on exclusives.

...

Most of us don't want games to last a lifetime. I just want enough to get me through college.

>but the ability to run new games at the highest settings (the whole advantage of PC gaming)

you're retarded.

Yah I used to have a custom PC before throwing it out, realizing that it was a giant waste of money and disappointment having everything become insufficient for gaming in 1-2 years, I'd rather not have to worry about the life span of my machines capabilities and just get a console.

Educate yourself before you post you retarded console fucker.

PC
>Graphics card, a $200 one will do
>power supply - your dad has one in his garage, so $0
>processor - borrow from your friend, $0
>fan - you have one in your house already
>motherboard - $10
>case - $5
>Monitor, mouse and keyboard - you're using them to browse now. $0
>games - piratebay $0
>online - free
Total: $215

Console
>$499 for the actual console
>They want you to buy a 4K TV, $3000
>Controllers - get 4 for your friends, then 4 spare because they break easy, $480
>Gaming chair - $500
>Gaming headset - $300
>Specialised triggers for each controller - $50
>Decals for each controller - $100
>Extra cables - $50
>Actual games - Let's say you get about 10 at $60 each - $600
>Online - you pay $60 a year for let's say 20 years - $1200
>Console repairs for when it inevitably breaks - $800
>Extra storage space - $500
>3D TV - $2000
Total - $10,100

So what saves more money in the long run? Hm, I wonder

Bleeding edge is only for enthusiasts and even then it usually lasts a few years. If you're going to go buy a console and be locked to 25-30fps medium settings for the next 5 years just because you couldn't run every single game launched at ultra after 3 years then you must have an extra chromosome.

>(the whole advantage of PC gaming)
Your pretty misinformed if you think thats the only reason people play on PC. On that point even if you need to drop a few settings games will still look at run better than console counterparts.

Why did this make me laugh?

I have noticed that people who support consoles spend quite a lot of time on there PC defending there product and crying when an exclusive is released onto another platform.

Why do they do this?

there's countless advantages to pc gaming, i wont even go in to that. your post is flawed because even if you cant run the newest games at maximum you can still run them with better graphics settings than consoles have.

Even if I'm not maxing out AAA games after 3-4 years I'm still going to be running them at settings much higher than consoles at twice the framerate, with the advantage of using whatever controller input I want. Plus I don't have to pay a subscription fee just to use my own internet, and games are cheaper.

>literally last you years
sorry m8 hate to break it to you no pc you make for under 5-10 grand will last you 6-8 years of playing new games at console graphics settings year after year

I never understood these pictures. I built my computer in 2007 mostly from used parts (except the hard drive, ram, and mobo) and it cost about $350 dollars. I've upgraded it twice, years apart (once to get a 970 and once to get an i5) and those totalled maybe 500. It's still pretty strong today and runs games better than modern consoles despite the fact that it's almost as old as the wii

>1200 dollars on hard ware in the past 6 years
I spent less than that on console hardware in the past 15 years and all those games also ran just fine with the bonus of games actually being supported by devs and not just a bad port that was quickly shat out

because they already beat the couple of console selling exclusives their console has, and now they don't have any other games to play.

It isn't 1998 anymore, Grandpa. If your rig can't play games 1-2 years later, your rig was never good.

>OP doesn't understand PC and resorts to strawman

This made me laugh out loud while sitting thanks bro

>Yah I used to have a custom PC before throwing it out
No you didn't.

>I'd rather not have to worry about the life span of my machines capabilities and just get a console.
So are you bothered by your current gens 3 year life span?

...

This thread is bad and you should all feel bad

I have a 500 dollar pre built PC and I can play all the current games on the same settings as consoles and get 30 fps or I can play low settings and get 60 fps. I can also play all the titles before 2012 at max settings, and there are usually mods for those games that make it fantastic and patches for the bugs devs were too lazy to fix.

In 6-7 years I have upgraded it twice. Once with a Nvidia 760 for 100 bucks, second time I bought 4gb's of ram for 10 bucks.

I have yet to find a game I can't play.

So you didn't own any console in it's prime? That's fine if you stay a gen behind, but for many games multiplayer features will be dead, and can outright lock you out of content. Those games are typically shit anyways though, so you don't lose much.

>food analogy

u need a huge ass television and a better sound system for the consoles.

What are you playing right now?

it's a psychological thing. with consoles you have a 400$ machine that will only ever perform like a 400$ machine, and you don't really have any upwards mobility.

there's no settings that remind you you're not running the game at the absolute highest fidelity. but with a 400$ PC you'd get more or less the same experience of running every game on low with shit framerates. you'd just be more acutely aware of that.

lastly, the platform isn't to blame for your lack of self control.

>the whole advantage of PC gaming
I'm guessing you don't play games on PC?

Are we really going to have this debate forever? Obviously consoles are cheaper, so if you're poor or a casual gamer then go right ahead, don't even feel bad but don't try to convince us that console gaming is somehow superior just because that's the route you chose.

What are you talking about? Console graphics have peaked this gen already.

hahahaha fucking falsefag

Civ VI , Stellaris, and I just started a playthough of Witcher 3.

>tfw I rageaped on my computer and had to buy a new motherboard, but all the current gen ones didn't support neither my RAM nor my CPU

And they say parts becoming obsolete isn't a thing with PCs LOL

enjoy getting jewed by intel

it's a little bit better than being jewed by sony and MS

>PC
>No games

even as bait man no one gon believe you

My PC was only £680 and runs games newer at high settings and should probably last me at least another few years yet. Sounds better to me than setting £350 down plus £60 in online fees for however many years to play games that don't as well on PC. Plus I can play games from previous gens that PS4/Xbone can't so there's that too. I wouldn't argue with anyone that buys a console though if that's what's best for them.

you need some education in reality

why are console babies so fucking salty? I own a ps4 and xboxone and have never even found a reason to plug the xbox in.

PC's are more expensive. But you get 10 times the better experience.

Not everyone cares about paying for quality, and I can understand that. But playing games on PC is just to nice of a thing for me to ever use a console as my main platform. It's just very unpleasant to use one most of the time.

>parts became obsolete at a generational jump
>did zero research and got bitten

You're like the people leaving all the reviews on Wii U games saying "didn't work on my wii pls halp"

>Buy Console
>All games struggle to run 60fps at 1080p
>Already talking about attempting 4k
>Have to have a subscription to Microsoft/Sony to use online functionality

>Build pc
>All games run fine unless you're fucking stupid
>Can generally find games for cheap
>Or just fucking pirate them for free
>Potentially have user content/mods to keep things fresh

Can't think of any recent pc exclusives that I went crazy for, but I know that I would never want to play a grand strategy or rts on a console

>all the current gen ones
this is why helping your friend with building rigs is important anons, retards like this exist

>it's worth it to play (insert game) on ultra instead of very high
implying consoles do "very high"
implying 22fps games like fallout 4 are worth 400$ when a 280$ computer can run it at 25fps stable.

You just have 0 knowledge and go and buy expensive computer parts and dont even know how to install them or how they get optimised while im playing dark souls 3 with better than console graphics on a 2009 machine.

So i've spent a total of 200 (2006 for the pc) + 2 GPUs since then for 300 + a dead PSU that i replaced for 50 + 20 for a used cpu and 200 on steam games. Total >>>even if you add to that the monitors and peripherals it goes up to 980.

980 euro in 11 years. WITH the games.
Sure pc gaming is expensive....

Nice

I fucking hate this board.

for the low cost of all your lifesavings

Is this some meta bait or something?

If $1000 is your life savings then sure.

Currently? I downloaded skyrim to play it with mods for the first time and even with the mods you can fix a game with shit gameplay. The lore is fun though. I tried battlefield 1 and I dont like how its not historically accurate at all. It can be fun at times, but when I want to play a FPS I will do some ARMA 3, that with the exile mod is so fucking cool! I have started to play dota recently and that game is fucking digital crack, after I heard my first GODLIKE... I was hooked.

Started PC gaming just 3 months ago desu.

- irony level 1
- irony level 2
Can we go deeper?

so only shit alright.

trolling pcmr is the best part about this board.

Except it negates the entire argument about PC gaming being cheaper in the long run because you can upgrade individual parts instead of the whole PC.
Paying ~$600 every generation > paying ~$1200

...

Why are platform war threads even allowed?
If you can't even afford a decent PC and a console or two you're not old enough to be here

quality bait my friend.

>paid $2000 7 years ago
>got used gtx 760 6 months ago for free
What exactly is the problem?

>console/pc wars are strictly for children and thirdworlders
FPBP

PC gaming is for people with actual incomes and not momma's allowance. Have fun with your 30fps 720p console exclusives

PC
>Download Game from Steam

Console

>Run game
>Game requires day 1 update
>Download only runs at 25% of your max download speed

there are actual real life south americans posting with us right now

I don't really see the problem with PCs being more expensive. You get a vastly superior experience by playing on one.
I mean sure, you can play on a console as well, but it's just worse in every single way. Why fly coach when you can fly business? unless you're a dirty poorfag that is.

Yeah. The industry really has been shit in the last few years. On PC and consoles.

Hell, the PS4 still only has one game that looks interesting, and I don't think the Xbone has anything I really want.

Civ VI I'm not sold on, Stellaris is pretty barren, but I'm playing with a friend so it's still fun, Witcher 3 I never really got into, so I'm giving it another shot. See if I enjoy it more this time.

Pretty much the only game I'm looking forward for is Nier.

A q6600 from like 2007 can run modern games perfectly fine. The only reason I upgraded from mine was to get 60 fps in FF14

meanwhile the PS3 I got in 2010 yellow lighted itself to death and I'm shit out of luck. Sure it was cheaper but it didn't even last half as long

Combined with no online fees and the choice to just go 100% pc is simple

...

I bought my computer last gen and it's still holding up well this gen.

I could probably do with a CPU update though.

So far I've spend around 1000 bucks for two generations.

>generational jump
>"LOOK GUYS WE PUT THE INDENTATIONS ON OUR CHIPS 1 CM FURTHER DOWN SO YOU CAN'T PUT THEM IN OLD SHIT TRULY A REVOLUTION! NOW FORK OVER YOUR SHEKELS SILLY GOYIM!"

lemayo

This is such obvious bait it's actually a cringe thread.

....people do realize that pc can be used for more than just gaming/Netflix..... right?

That was one of the best things I've read on this board in a while, thanks for the laugh

PC gaming is so easy, but it's sometimes hard to get other people into it because they'll just refuse to figure anything out on their own and will spend an hour talking with you trying to get a video driver installed because they ran across a game that won't even start because they haven't installed a video driver in over a year.

Then you need another hour with them telling them exactly what settings to turn up and down and they never remember even what resolution to set it at.

In that way, it's easier to just play on a console with others, but about everyone I know is on PC now anyway.

>1 year parts obsolete

retarded fag

also if you are talking about time investment for PC you have to talk about time investment for all the console patching

>Have a 2006 rig
>Want to play newer games i cant because i have to buy new parts graphics card etc etc.
>Get a xbox 360 fat made in 2005
>I play all the games i want 2005-2016
Wow quantum physics
I dont give a shit about graphics like these underage r/pcmasterrace mouth breathers that like to burn money to play shitty AAA ports

You forgot
>go to store
>buy gas on the way to store
>go to gaming section
>wait an hour to find someone to help you because the games are locked up
>game isn't locked up but in the back
>wait for associate to come back from the back
>get rung up and pay
>they brought up the game for the wrong console
>wait even longer while a new associate goes and gets the right version
>they come back and ask if you want the normal a deluxe edition
>they gotta go back to the back
>they ask you if you want the protection plan
>they ask you if you want to preorder
>Finally pay
>driving home gotta refill on gas again

Consoles for the win

>pc gaming is for wasting your actual incomes in order to solidify your role in this world as a wageslave poor fag forever
>not putting your money into a fund instead and getting a cheaper console
>being right where the jews want you

If you are spending 1600 for parts, that shit isn't going obsolete for a bit.

>design console to overheat at a rate that will cause it to fry itself a few months past it's warranty date
>then release a new slim version of the same console
potemayo

It's called buying things on sale, that 1200 dollars was a ps2, 3, 4, gamecube, and a ds all within a year of release, I don't count the gba and psp since those were gifts

For all the talk about how PC gaming is cheaper in the long run you would expect their player base to be a little better at math, or at least savvy shoppers when purchasing hardware

if by vastly superior do you mean buying console controllers to emulate the experience of playing on a console?

You sound like a broke as bitch

Why does it? So my motherboard in my PC I built back in 2013 doesn't support 6th gen Intel CPUs. It still supports 4th and 5th gen CPU's. I havent updated my CPU since 2013 and it's still doing it's job just fine. If in a few more years it starts to show it's age, I can pick up a top end 5th Gen i7 for cheap since it's "old" and it will still destroy consoles.

>bought a laptop on sale for 440 3 years ago to compliment my desktop
>has a gt 750m
>8 gigs of ram
>i7
>runs nearly every game i give a fuck about more than fine
>overwatch on medium / high 60-70 fps
>assassin's creed unity medium locked 30
>elite dangerous on high at ~60
>csgo ~90fps on high
>MGSV on high at 60fps
>Battlefront 30fps on high
>BF1 30fps on high

The one game I had issues with was the witcher 3 which I played at on low at 30fps.

If you're not autistic over getting MAX SETTINGS 120 FPS on everything you can play on the PC for dirt cheap.

>being so poor that you cant afford a gaming pc

No money of the world beams a DX12 card into the past.

>peru
well desu senpai in peru a gtx950 goes for close to 500 dollars.

That's right Jay, by paying $20 for an xbox controller you literally have all the functionality of an xbox. Idort master race is apparently not very hard to achieve.

The die size is shrunk so it's more power efficient and more powerful. You have to buy an entirely new console to get the new smaller chip size. If my Mobo doesn't support it, all I have to do is buy a new one for the fraction of the cost of an entire console.

I could buy a brand new MB right now that supports the latest Intel CPU and DDR4 memory for £80.
