You can play the game while it downloads!

>you can play the game while it downloads!

When did this become a """feature""" in games?
Why is it so necessary to include that so many companies outright lie about it?

I have literally never seen this in a game
sounds awesome

Get better Internet faggot.

>Complaining about a feature that gives you nothing but benefits

I remember the PC version of Halo 2 had it, but I had the disc version of the game, so it was just running off the disc while installing to the hard drive.

Beyond that I haven't seen it in other games.

I already opened my Doritos what the FUCK do I do now? Reseal the fucking bad like some kind of fucking, I don't, bag-resealing faggot?

It said I could play the game but it lied.

It's a mandatory thing for triple A games on the PS4, mandated by Sony. There has to be two downloads for a game: enough of a game for the player to at least hop into and run the game, even if all they get is a pre-loading screen (how most people get around Sony's rule), and then the rest of the actual game.

Some games have little playgrounds you can fuck around in, or just a tutorial. Blacklight Retribution or whatever loads in enough for you to hop into a server with only one map so you can play the game with other people, but you can't do much else besides play a grab bag of different random game types on that one map.

For the most part it's fucking retarded because it just means you'll get a little Newsgrounds era pre-loader with a single image and a loading bar, but hey, what can you do.

What's the fucking deal with disc games needing to install? I know it's nothing new but I'm sick of popping a game in only to find I have to wait three hours while the shit installs. I can't believe people are okay with this shit every time.

WoW did the whole download while you play thing since Cataclysm

You can start playing the game with only 1GB out of 20+ GB installed, but the game would look ugly as fuck and there would be blue walls preventing you from entering areas that you haven't downloaded yet.

Blame the PS3, which had a shit BD reader that would shit the bed if they tried to run games entirely off the disc. At least with the 360, the installs were optional and actually improved the load times.

Bluray drives inside consoles are slow as fuck ever since PS3. Ever wonder why lots of PS3 games made you install data to your HDD before you started playing? That's why.

Its helpful if you have shit internet. Got MWR and it basically downloaded by mission. I'd rather play it mission by mission as it downloads rather than wait for the full 50gbs to download then start.

Better internet doesn't make the mandatory install to the HDD faster.

Better internet and a SSD does make a difference.

Even if PS4's Sata interface is garbage, it's still multitudes faster than the standard HDD.

Oh, so to make the experience better, I need to buy an upgrade and install it myself, even though consoles just work?

Really fires the neurons.

Yes, just like PC because PS4 is literally a proprietary PC.

Halo 2 did that.

I remember the PS3 doing it, not for every game but for a large number. So what, Sony just figured they'd conditioned players enough to be okay with it and just kept rolling with shitty drives?

I mean, I'm not 100% on the technical aspect of it, but putting a better disc reader in the thing couldn't be that big of a problem for them, could it? The one and only perk I saw of having a console over a PC was that you wouldn't have to wait for shit to download, but apparently we can't even have that this generation.

>Mortal Kombat X tries to do this on Steam
>It completely shits the bed and nobody can play for almost a whole day after launch

Carts will solve everything right?...Right?

It's even better when you try to start a game you uninstalled because you haven't played it in a while and it takes another 30 mins to install even when you're on the main fucking menu.

Fuck you Until Dawn. I just wanted to save everyone ;-;

Faster bluray drives would cost more money, which would drive up the system price and also cost Sony more money since they gotta manufacture millions of consoles and distribute them around the world.

But since we're in the age of digital distrubution and people can stuff 1TB SSDs or hard drives inside their systems, console manufactures don't find it worth it to have faster BD drives.

Protip: Preorder or buy your digital games early, use the PS app on your phone to remotely download the games and updates to your PS4 while you're at work or school. That way when you get home you're ready to play instead of waiting for 6 hours for shit to download.

STUPID BATLER, SAY IT! SAY YOU BELEIVE IN ME!

Nigga get you one of these.

imagine trying to play a 40GB game at x2 read speed (9MB/s maximum)

why would you even eat that shit? Is v this bad because it is what it eats?

At a higher cost, sure.
