Discount. I feel like the reason a lot of people latch to it is because of how bare it is on a mechanical level. Mission objectives are very basic which allow for more than a single approach but on the other hand, that very same lack of structure can turn off just as many people. Basically it strikes me as a game of extremes, either you'll adore it or not.

It's an FPS with a lot of ways to go about your mission and RPG characterization.

>you can buff your shooting
>you can buff running
>you can be a hacker and hack everything
>you can abuse Psi powers
>you can abuse Cyber abilities
>also there's a bunch of guns so have fun

Also the atmosphere and huge maps are great.

Objectives is a very strong term.

Or you could just pick up one of these, some heavy armour and go to town because 90% of the enemies are mindless zerg rushing trash
