James is actually endearing when it comes to him not knowing everything in the world beyond NES games he played as a kid. Though when they actually do play a game that's somewhat related or directly related to his childhood he takes things really seriously. I loved the Double Dragon one where it was very clear that he wanted to beat the game so badly and he was better than even Mike in some cases.

I'm not sure what to make of Mike and Bootsy as they don't play off each other as naturally, they seem closer in game taste and general atari experience though I think Bootsy is sometimes interesting when he has certain opinions on games that are terrible but redeemable to him in a specific way.

I don't know where you get the notion of James and Mike mondays all about being informative and showcasing skill, it's always been a fun gaming on the couch series that isn't posted every fucking day like a certain game grumps channel we all know and "love".
