Is the franchise ending with this game? Are they going to go out with dignity and realize that Sega's own efforts can never surpass this?

What do you think?
...
sonic is like one of the four things keeping sega afloat
>ending
>Simultaneously announced with a game that's coming later
They still paid for a new Daytona license...
Sega should just drop the turd of a design they call modern Sonic and turn the franchise into a 2.5D platformer like the classic levels in Generations.
>No edgy plot
>No shitty new friends
>Just pure gameplay
>Priced at $30-40
I'd fucking buy it.
But story and Sonic go well together. He's got more personality than Mario.
And what the fuck is your problem with green eyes?
POST THE STAGES YOU WANT IN MANIA
>S1
Abandoned Scrab Brain Zone
>S2
Daylight Chemical Plant Zone, makes you go to the city
>S3
Hydrocity, I don't care what they do with it
>SK
Downed Death Egg
>CD
Collision Chaos / Metallic Madness
Knew what that was before I even clicked it.
Clicked it anyway
>story and Sonic go well together
Oh sure, this is why plot heavy Sonic games like 06 are fucking turds while the old games where the plot was pretty much "that Robotnik guy is up to no good again" were the best.
>le green eyes meme
The modern Sonic design is just lanky and unpleasant, it tries too hard to look cool while the classic one was cutesy but full of personality. How can someone even look at this shit and say it's a good character design?
>Sega hiring talented fans to make their dream sonic games
>Hype
>Nintendo banning content on the internet and even youtube videos because muh IPs
>H-Hype?
will 3D sonic die out if this succeeds? how would you react?
Shame we never seen that cock, yet Vector became a faggot staple now
Sonic 360's problem with story was it was really confusing. All the time shifting and the backstory didn't make any sense because they kept pouring it on without properly explaining anything. What is the Iblis Trigger, what are the Flames of Disaster, what interest does Sonic have in Soleanna, how is Princess Elise connected, why are all of Sonic's friends there with him, where did Silver/Blaze come from...
It just goes on and on. Following it after the first couple of hours is just painful.
I want them to make a Mean Bean Machine stage{/spoiler]
just really goes to show you that the wrong kid died
sega does what nintendon't
Made an appearance in the comic I think
You mean Puyo Puyo?
youtube.com
>S1
Star Light Zone but fully constructed
>S2
Same as you, day time Chemical Plant would be amazing
>S3
Hydrocity or Launch Base
>SK
Crashed Battery Zone, Act 2 has it re activating and flying again.
>CD
Stardust Speedway
>Advance
Egg Rocket
I wouldn't mind if Generations's gameplay was just the standard for all Sonic games going forward. The 2D and the 3D levels were both really fun to play. Just get rid of the shitty plot and friends and I'd buy every single one
That sounds unoriginal and boring. Why can't the music be as good as the Genesis games?
How can you like the boost button? That is not Sonic.
Yeah, i want a sonic stage with Puyo blocks that can open paths after you set up a chain or simply spin dash through, and i would love to see elements from both Dr. R and Puyo's syles to decorate the stage.
Dr. R's soundtrack is the best of any puzzler.
Holy fuck nostalgiafags are the worst
No, it's just the end of shitty fanmade nostalgia games. It's just an anniversary game. Same thing of when Capcom made Mega Man 9 and 10. It's just a one time thing.
Well what do YOU want to see out of the series then?
I want a more refined Sonic Adventure experience. A 3D game with similar controls (NO BOOSTING) that has a stronger focus on platforming and less on homing attack chains.
this
>go out with dignity
A shitty romhack is not going out with dignity you fucking retard.
>Retro style indie games are now rom hacks
so slanderous, i love it.
Well it's better than making a shit game and saying that's the end of the franchise.
>Same thing of when Capcom made Mega Man 9 and 10.
>Sega effectively kills off the Sonic franchise, refusing to make a new game and only occasionally revisiting it to milk money from hats and avatar outfits
It might be better that way.
>indie
>game is funded by Sega
here's the paradox though
Capcom has Monster hunter in Japan and Street Fighter and Resident Evil for the Westerners to fall on without Megaman
What does Sega got for the Westerners if Sonic retired?
I don't see how that applies to Sonic. Wouldn't that just ruin Sega?
using Indie as loosely as possible because the term lost its meaning long ago that it can literally now mean small teams working for larger companies or even self brought up companies like Steam.
>implying sega gives a fuck about westerners at this point
>implying Sonic sells in Japan
Sonic has always been notoriously unpopular in Japan compared to the US.
...i never said it did?
Because Jackson is dead.
>What does Sega got for the Westerners if Sonic retired?
Football manager.
they got stocks here, unlike Konami which absolutely that is true. Sega wants our money and Sonic is their meal ticket. without him, they can't do much but fall back on licensing, maybe the one off revival attempt.
If Sega doesn't care about Westerners, they aren't going to make money.
whats their end game?
Konami is rich again and it's because they told the west to fuck off.
yo, those figures are pretty sick
i need an eggman one
can hardly sell that well enough over in the states, nor will is make for good merch.
knowing murricans and their sports, sega doesn't have known IPs of the sports murricans love the most.
Konami is rich again because they cut out almost everything relating to making games and focusing on their most profitable markets.
Wasn't that like the pachislot business? The same one SNK bailed on because gambling regulations were becoming too stringent? How does that work?
Thank God we're going back to a decent design.
Aren't they making a Sonic movie in a couple of years?
The market changed and the regulations became more lax.
That and Konami is better suited for the regulations in play than SNK.
that's funny because didn't they come groveling back to fan interests when they learned pachinko doesn't exactly have an expanding market, unlike god damn video games.
because they might have gotten wealthy but that wealth is short gained and they fucking burned a big bridge doing so.
Sorry that you prefer objectively terrible Sonic games man. Wish there was something I could do for you.
Sonic was better before 1999, I get it, but you can't write off everything from that point forward as shit.
Nice projecting, I love the original genesis games, but not every new sonic game is bad, famila
2018.
And it's going to be PG-13, what the ass.
can modern sonic fags leave and go make your rouge the bat thread.
I can with the designs. And I do.
Easy.
I actually like the adventure games, I just vastly prefer the old designs. They're clear, iconic, and playful.
everything that is PG-13 is tame. You can probably expect Shadow to say the single swear allowed.
Sonic shouldn't be anywhere above PG.
That's when it starts to take itself too seriously.
Making it PG-13 means they could probably do a grimdark storyline. While I like more serious Sonic tales, forcing such stuff on the series always ends up wonky.
Batman V Superman was violent as shit for PG-13.
So the rating tells us it's for adults who grew up with the games as opposed to kids.
Violence doesn't mean anything to Western rating systems. It's bad words and titties you gotta watch out for. That could really mess up a kid.
There is a balance. Sonic Generations annoyed me because the whole thing just felt like a "let's jerk Sonic around" game.
Where's the threat of world collapse? You know, some actual stakes? What does messing with Sonic do? Made everything feel pointless.
>tfw used to be a classicsfag
Wew glad I grew out of that.
Generations shitty 2D stages and God-tier 3D stages is probably what made that happen.
>Sonic 1
Star Light Zone
>Sonic 2
Wing Fortress Zone or Aquatic Ruin Zone
>Sonic 3
Chrome Gadget
>Sonic & Knuckles
Downed Death Egg
>CD
Don't really care. Just getting Chrome Gadget would make me buy this game twice over.
>Where's the threat of world collapse?
With the time demon?
That was...that was kind of the whole plot device.
Yeah but it wasn't real. And Eggman never threatened to turn it on anyone but Sonic.
It LOOKED bad at first, yeah, but once things got going it was just a dopey endgame.
There's no such thing as chrome gadget
I still don't get the appeal of any music from the Sonic series. It's honestly just boring unoriginal shlock.
>inb4 (you)
Because you know, not everyone can like shit.
I suppose I get your point.
All in all it was probably the tamest Sonic game.
But I still think that going above PG is a bad idea.
The 2P mode...?
>Not Azure Lake
Oh
Well I didn't have friends
Y-You're in the wrong here, norman!
>talking shit on Masato Nakamura
Take that back fucker
Any of the other composers is okay though
You can play Vs. Mode by yourself as a time trial.
>S1
Green Hill aside, I want Labyrinth Zone. Give us some cool Antlantia inspired locations to travel to.
>S2
Death Egg Zone. Considering how Death Egg Zone originally had a full stage before the boss fights, it'd be interesting to see a different take on it, and give justice to the song created for the stage, since you, you only hear it for 5 seconds in the final release.
>S3
Marble Garden Zone. No reason other than me just wanting to hear the song again.
>SK
Hidden Palace Zone. While I'm aware that Hidden Palace got a makeover for the Sonic 2 mobile release and that the stage is technically connected to Lava Reef in SK, it'd be interesting to see this particular segment get stretch out into a full fledged stage.
>CD
Stardust Speedway. See Marble Garden Zone, but in JP.
>implying Chrome Gadget didn't have god tier aesthetics and soundtrack
Wacky Workbench Zone
It did but Lake + Snow Mountains is an Elder God aesthetic.
And they fit that era. The Adventure era took on the more radical aspect of the 90s and Sonic changed slightly to fit better with it then that design just stuck since it was far more malleable to different styles of games than Classic.
Generations having shit 2D levels is a stupid reason to stop liking 2D Sonic. It has been apparent for well over a decade that Team Sonic is not capable of making a 2D Sonic game anymore. There's a REASON they had to reach out to fangame developers to port classic Sonic titles to new consoles and make them a new 2D Sonic game, because at this point fangame devs are better at 2D Sonic than Team Sonic is. Classic Sonic is still great to this day, and the Taxman ports only amplify that. Team Sonic being shit at their job doesn't retroactively make those games worse.
Well your tastes and opinion are respectable, but I will still hold my ground on Chrome Gadget being the best from my perspective. If Sonic Mania can be arsed to acknowledge anything from comp mode, I'll be happy.
I actually quite liked the 2D stages in Sonic Generations. They weren't perfect by any means, but it definitely felt like a step up from the likes of Advance 2, 3, and others.
Certainly better than Lost World's abysmal 2D, with no fucking momentum.
Likewise.
Oh, and don't even get started on Sonic 4. You don't know suffering until you've played that. I think Generations 2D has a lot of room for improvement, but they didn't butcher it like other 2D Sonic games lately.
Sonic 4 E2 showed improvement.
I can tolerate E1 but I can see why people didn't like it.
It only has 2 new levels and no co op. It's trash. It should be a whole new game with tails, knuckles and nsmb style co op. Plus competitive split screen from sonic 2
Sonic Team can't make good 2D Sonic because they're never given enough time to actually build a proper engine for it.
>fangame developers
Except they're part of an actual company and do official third party work for Sega on top of Taxman having never actually made a Sonic fangame that I can recall. This meme ends here and now.
Never tried out E2, I fucking hated E1 though.
Is that classic Amy merch I spy?!
They haven't shown every level yet, relax.
I hope so. Sonic games have been nothing but disappointment ever since he went 3D,
Actually, the Sonic vocal tracks have recently been added into Joysound Karaoke booths in Japan. Also the release of the S1, 2 and CD soundtracks in Japan a few years back. They're slowly not hating Sonic as much.
They never hated Sonic they were just indifferent.
They're an actual company that does work with Sega NOW. Taxman was building engines for fan games for fucking years, how about you actually research stuff before you talk about what you know nothing about.
