Their top franchises, World of Warcraft and Call of Duty, are declining

>their top franchises, World of Warcraft and Call of Duty, are declining
>the actual company is growing and selling better than ever

What exactly is causing Activision-Blizzard to be so successful, when their product seem to not be getting much more popular in the last five years?

>the actual company is growing and selling better than ever
You mean their stock? Stock prices don't follow the company's real value but their perceived value. If a product is becoming less popular but rich old dudes with money think cowadoody is still popular and buy or hold their stocks, the stock will go up in price.

Having said that, WoW is hardly Blizzard's flagship franchise anymore. Overwatch and Hearthstone are and they are making them big money.

I think it was at the start of the year that a Blizzard source said Hearthstone+Diablo III combined make almost as much as WoW.
Both together, almost as much. So no, Hearthstone isn't flagship.

Wow and CoD are, and they are in decline for the past 3-5 years for sure, while the company is growing during the same period. They must be showing some good numbers and graphs to these old rich people, and I am asking what helps them get these.

>now with more guitar hero

Damn I haven't seen that in forever, although I know there was a new one. I guess the age of plastic guitars is long gone.

How is CoD declining ?

Pure hype is keeping their stocks afloat.
Within a quarter of a CoD release, they drop a teaser for the next CoD.
If a CoD drops quarter 2, around two weeks before the end of quarter 3, they tease a new CoD. Towards the end of quarter 4, they have shown trailers and tech demos, possibly even announced multiplayer Beta dates. Quarter 1 is hyped because the new CoD is due out in a couple weeks and multiplayer Beta is going strong.
Rinse repeat.

From a profits perspective it may not be, but HS has 50M or so accounts, even taking into account people with multiple bnet profiles and inactive accounts that still leaves you at ~10-20M active players as a good ballpark number.

Yes they are sugarcoating those numbers, maybe throw in some borderline legal corporate accounting tricks too, but Blizz is not really declining even though WoW is.

Physical sales spiked several iterations ago.

And Infinate Warfare is expected to continue the trend.

It MIGHT still be selling as much if digital is included, but that is unlikely.

Call of Duty barely makes it into Steam top 10, and very quickly leaves it.
There are 2-3 Football Manager versions more played than the latest CoD at times.

CoD is a console game
I'd wager 85% of all sales are from consoles. Maybe higher percent.

Oh yeah, well, consoles do that whole digital sales thing now too, though, so it's conceivable but unlikely that sales might remain as high as before or higher because console players buy CoD digitally now.

Blizzard is a dying company

MMORPGs are dead
online games are in general dead

I don't know what Blizzard wants to do, but as of now it is a mistake to focus on a dying genre (AAA multiplayer games)

The whole failing Cash Shop marketing model and so many other games as substitute are the biggest reason why Blizzard gets destroyed.

Why play WoW? You don't have the time to play MMORPGs in the current year

Why play Overwatch? You can either play for example Paladins for free or play a much cheaper game.

Why play Diablo? There are much better RPG on the market.

Why play the Blizzard card game? GWENT will be released soon and other substitutes are following.

The only reason people buy online games today (or play them in general) is the esports scene. But Overwatch is a flop as esports game and the Blizzard card game has no quality to be a great esports game. LoL and CS are just too huge to be beaten by Blizzard.

>Blizzard is a dying company

Nah, they aren't dying just because you put up some good arguements for why their games aren't worth playing.

Unfortunately.

>online games are in general dead

Could you be any more wrong?

WoW is the best MMO.
Diablo is the best ARPG.
Starcraft 2 is the best RTS.
Overwatch is the best FPS.
Hearthstone is the best card game. Yes, alternatives are being released, just like "WoW killers" were released during that game's infancy, they will fail in a similar way.

Blizzard only failed with one single game, their attempt to take on League of Legends. Every other game they released is genre leader and has no competition.

micro-transactions

Esports could die out completely and you wouldn't even notice the drop in population on any game.

overwatch

you didn't understand the post nigger?
if blizzard is so horrible as a game company what keeps it alive?

ActiBlizz is a casino that takes people's money for a small amount of a flashy lights. Except you never get anything back from it.

The only thing they really have is blind fans eating up any garbage they make.

And their art direction is top notch. All of their games have charm, and on the surface the games are GOOD. Once you start investing into the games, only then you start to realize that all the game mechanics are shallow, skill cap is on the level of animal crossing, RNG out of the ass instead of skill, balancing is absolutely retarded yoyo where in the history of Blizzard the top and bottom performing specs/heroes have never been closer than +-30% of each other.

The thing is, casual shitters that make up 95% of the playerbase will never start playing on a high enough level where all their games start falling apart.

>Blizzard is a dying company

Fucking hell I haven't laughed so hard in a while, user.

Hearthstone was one of the top mobile games for a long while and could probably fund all their projects alone.

Overwatch has sold in the millions. This is before them making loot crates into a slot machine system that people pour hundreds of fucking dollars in.

WoW Legion also sold several million copies and still gets monthly subs.

Diablo 3 was one of the top selling PC games of all time.

The delusion on Sup Forums because they don't like the games therefore they aren't successful is always staggering.

Wrong facts - the post

Same shit that keeps Casino's alive. Retards.

>Tell people ActiBlizzard is shit
>"But they're making so much money!"
I wasn't aware a company making money was a benefit to the consumer. Fucking marketers can't think of anything else but money.

They're diversifying. Look at Hearthstone, for example, that's making shit tons of money. Overwatch was a big success too. Having their top franchises still doing pretty damn well even if they're past their peak while also having new up and coming franchises doing well is better than just having 12 million WoW subscribers, particularly when valuing a company on longterm outlook.

It's because you haven't been around and haven't noticed other companies do the same shit, blizzdrone.

>WoW is the best MMO.
Heh
>Diablo is the best ARPG
Nope
>Starcraft 2 is the best RTS.
Not by a long shot
>Overwatch is the best FPS
Hahahahaha
>Hearthstone is the best card game.
>card games
>Every other game they released is genre leader and has no competition.
Can blizzdrones get any more delusional?

They hire people off the streets at discount prices.
>lead class developer or WoW
twitter.com/Celestalon/status/737196586338418688

Naming Hearthstone "Heroes of Warcraft" was a mistake.
They should import Diablo, Starcraft and Overwatch characters there as well, make more cross game stuff, like unlocking new Hearthstone skins in Heroes of the Storm, or a new World of Warcraft pet from playing Diablo III and so on.
That will help their older games recover.

There exists today a creature we can call the Blizzard gamer. A person who mostly if not exclusively plays Blizzard games. He isn't a strategy gamer, or an RPG gamer, he doesn't go by genre. Like an Apple user, who will buy whatever Apple releases - phone, watch, laptop, book, glasses, the Blizzard gamer will buy and play anything Blizzard releases. They should expand that way, and bank on that fandom they are incidentally inspiring in people.

>is this the guy in charge of pvp???

kek

You know, what really gets me is how he says "(non-expensive)" on top of that.
It's a mouse. For a person whose main job description requires him to use a pc almost every day. He's not even a need who can't afford one, like, what the fuck.

He spent all his money on hair dyes

Some people are of the opinion that buying a half price mouse every year and then paying for healthcare every 5 years is cheaper than getting a quality built mouse that is comfortable to use.

I also see this trend with headphones.

literally what the fuck

is that real?

Quality mouse pad + mouse costs fucking 70-100 dollars. What the fuck.

just replace "best" with most selling/played, and it is pretty much accurate. WoW, diablo, SC, and HS are the most played game of their genre.

What is
>League of Legends
>Counter-Strike
>Dota 2
>CoD
>Battlefield
>Minecraft
>GTA 5
>FIFA

read more carefully. i specifically didn't mention HOTS and Overwatch because those are not their genre leaders. i have no idea why you reference Minecraft, GTA5, or FIFA, they are not in the same genre as blizzard games.

Then they aren't the best selling or most played, are they, you stupid fuck? Blizzdrones are so delusional.

you really need to work on your reading comprehension. i am not the original person you replied to. i didn't say EVERY blizzard game is the most played. WoW, Diablo3, SC2, and Hearthstone are the most played game of their particular genre: MMO, ARPG, RTS, CCG. Overwatch and HOTS are not, but Overwatch is close.

fuck this post overwatch sucks

Nice numbers to support your bullshit claim, retard. To know the real numbers is fucking impossible, blizzdrone.

give me a list of games for WoW, D3, SC2, and HS that are in their genre that you think has more players/sales than them. then we can start comparing numbers.

shh go bad to playing hearthstone and let the adults talk

you sure showed me...

atta boy champ always taking the high road!

gee golly! thanks uncle jimmy!

name a better fps

Timesplitters 2

>Call of Duty is declining

people have been saying this for years and it's never backed up by any actual statistics, just their own feelings on the current CoD game

its dead on pc. everyone went to csgo and now people go to ow

>WoW
Dungeon Fighter Online, Fantasy Westward, Runescape, Maplestory, Dragon Nest
Asia has a huge MMO market and WoW is almost tiny in comparison.

You're right about the other ones I guess.

well clearly someone is giving them money. is it someone other than the consumer?

those games are even worse than wow

Holy shit are we talking about players and profit or about fucking quality? This is why you cannot argue with Sup Forums

>demands to know better games
>uses same argument as "wow sucks"

wow so profound

Where can i watch the blizzcon for free?
