You don't need to play it to get into Automata if you're worried about that. Still, you should consider playing it if you're willing to put up with mediocre gameplay for an interesting experience.

I haven't been this hyped for a game in literally a decade.

I am so fucking hyped I can't stand it.

And the best thing is, it's just exclusively from what we've SEEN. None of it is the hype of promise or potential; it's just excitement to play the parts of the game we already know exist. I don't need the game to be more or do more than what we already KNOW it is; but it certainly will be (they aren't gonna show 100% of it in gameplay previews) which means it can only exceed my hype.

I think that's why I'm willing to actually be hyped.

Overall, I'm super hyped. Only bad thing I've heard so far is the optional (OPTIONAL) "game plays itself" movie mode bullshit. Everything else looks and sounds glorious. Character designs are some of the best I've ever seen in any form of fiction. Animations are fantastic. There's naked robot butts. I'll be shocked if this isn't going to be a 10/10 GOTY.

I just don't get how. I think it's a good inclusion; not because I'll use it, but because having it means they can be unafraid to make the game challenging or the mechanics complex and nuanced. There's no "inaccessibly hard" when auto-mode exists; it satisfies the needs of a certain RPG-playing crowd without dumbing the whole thing down

Auto mode isn't RPG mode. Auto mode is god mode. You can't lose. You literally cannot take damage in that mode.

There's a massive difference of principle between having god mode as a cheat code and having god mode as a difficulty setting. Having it as a cheat code makes it clear that it's the wrong way to play and you're a worthless pile of shit if you use it. Having it in the options menu implies it's morally okay to use it.

Theres games out there where you don't have the choice to HAVE gameplay, by your stance - gaming is already fucking dead, so I guess you should move on.

It'll be self contained with a bunch of references and connections for those who suffered through those games, but if anything - you should play Nier, that will be the more prominent connection - if anything.

The story will probably be self-contained. Taro himself even said that you just can go and watch a walkthrough on youtube.
But you should play the games nonetheless, it's a fun experience.

Bullshit, all the DMCs, both Bayos and MGR ALL have an automatic mode. Nobody who actually likes Plat's games would feel that way, he's either a DaS fag or (more likely) just baiting.

Honestly an auto-mode may finally end some bitching about having to do replays to get different branches/endings, as is often the case with Taro's games.

That's how it was described: a mode that attacks AND defends automatically. Presumably every attack in the game can be avoided (if it can't, the game is shit and designed wrong but Plat has a pretty good track record on that sort of thing), so a mode that evades automatically should logically be invincible. If it's not that, great, that's a relief, but until there's an official confirmation that you do in fact lose auto-fights where you're not sufficiently leveled I have to count it as a mark against the game. Shitters must not be catered to.

First of all, it's absolutely TRIVIAL to randomize or dumb-down auto mode so that it cannot play perfectly.

Second of all, even if auto mode makes you invincible, you still have to do all the other stuff in the game, like navigating dungeons, solving puzzles, etc., so it's not like it removes all the challenges.

Third, I really REALLY hope Auto Mode DOES literally make you invincible, JUST because it triggers your assburgers. You are the most tryhard fuck I have ever seen.
