Starcraft 1 & BW is my fave single player RTS. I loved the story.
Now I only played SC2 Wings of Liberty. The campaign was fun but the story was nowhere as good as SC1/BW.
I feel like playing through all the games again. Is it worth buying HOTS and LOTV? LOTV is suppose to wrap up the story right? I read HOTS was terrible plot wise but LOTV ended the series on a decent note.

SC2 is okay. the singleplayer missions are hit and miss, with Heart of the Swarm's campaign having the most misfires, but the multiplayer is alright. i was never huge on MP RTS but SC2 is a fair amount of fun. a lot of people who rigidly stick to the meta as if there was no other way to play a videogame but i guess i had fun with it.

story in videogames doesn't matter compared to the game you're actually playing. if you're reading a book you're not in it for the pretend fantasy the words invoke, you're in it for the William Carlos Williams 'little machine' of the words working perfectly with each other to make a great whole. the only thing that matters in videogames is gameplay, and Starcraft 2 has decent gameplay.
Overall it's okay.
As previously stated the narrative it's self isn't that great but the lore and universe it creates is very impressive.
For SC2 the one I think fell flat the most was HoTS(except for Abathur and Stukov, they were pretty cool). Personal favorite part of LotV was seeing the Protoss grow out of their shitty arrogant Caste society. That and John De Lancie as Alarak.

starcraft story may not matter to you because the multiplayer gameplay was a huge reason the game was popular. sp was and will always be my fave because of the missions and story.

never played the Witcher because all the hype was about the story, which obviously doesn't matter.
but are you saying Dodonpachi sucks because there's not 20 minute cutscenes with believable motivation, deep character arcs, plausible act structure? is Heavy Rain a better videogame than PaRappa the Rapper because it takes itself laughably seriously as a story? your perception of what a videogame should be is bizarre at best.

If you're looking for a good story you won't find it in HotS or LotV but the gameplay is of course great and LotV is a huge step up with Coop multiplayer and stuff
are you referring to great single player or mp? i have no interest in multiplayer.

Sc2 is a mess and your typical new-Metzen shit story (MUH CORRUPTION, THE CHOSEN ONE BULLSHIT) etc.. There are a few characters that are cool and interesting but it never goes really deep with them and the rest of the story makes it simply not worth it. It's a bad fanfiction at best compared to sc1
