What the fuck is your problem with it?
What the fuck is your problem with it?
Solid 3rd place when it comes to 3D Zeldas
Literally all the hates boils down to "waaah waggle" or TP and WW fags trying to defend their flawed games by using SS as a scapegoat.
haven`t played it it is as bad as people tell it is?
Just not a fan of motion controls, which this game heavily relies upon.
it didnt come out during my childhood
l don't have an issue with the controls, l just find the game boring
it lasts far too long, its structure sucks, dungeons are mediocre and a lot of gameplay scenarios are just wastes of time
top tier OST though
Zelda is easy, but I enjoy using items in combat.
In Skyward Sword, combat is basically "swing the way I'm indicating to you" and it never goes anywhere beyond that. It's pretty boring.
There are some strong points but mostly unreliable battery draining motion controls and some repetitive designs/environments
could have used a fourth area, and the areas should have interconnected
i loved the item system though
>sky has very little to do, can't be navigated at night
>overworld is too split up, would have been better if it was more connected and you didn't have to keep returning to the sky to move over a little
>too many recycled mini-bosses and bosses for a game at the time
>all enemies with weapons awkwardly pace in front of you and conveniently align their weapons at specific angles for your sword
>less sword moves at your disposal and shields are WAY too good
>no option to disable Fi in dungeons
>hero mode has to be unlocked
>too much hand-holding, even for a 3D Zelda
I didn't really have problems with the controls, but I prefer gyro aiming.
I actually really liked it, maybe because I liked the Motionplus shit. TP's motion controls sucked dick, but SS got it right. If you don't like motion at all, you won't like this.
It doesn't deserve the hate it gets, but still, the sky kinda sucked, and the one forest collectathon was garbage.
Dowsing, motion controlled flight, art syle mixed between ww and tp styles, fi, right handed Link, gimmicky items, stamina bar/orb thing for almost everything and repeating areas.
Remember how Zelda games usually hold your hand?
Now imagine that a hundred times and the treating you like your brain cant hold more than 5 minutes of information
>It doesn't deserve the hate it gets
It does. The good things like the item use need to be brought up more though.
I'm left-handed and Link is pretty much the only left-handed video game character. It hurts me on the inside when he's right handed for motion controls
>TP's motion controls sucked dick
>can swing while moving
>uses internal gyroscope instead of sensor
no
Its honestly good, people give it more shit than it deserves because they can't into motion controls.
The only thing wrong with this game is that the controller doesn't work perfectly in an emulator. It gets misaligned every few minutes.
the interconnection would already fix so much.
they could have easily cramped the shit that was in the upper overworld down there. flying added 0 to the game
>The only thing wrong with this game
>only thing
Are you obligated to be wrong if you put on a trip?
This game did not overpromise at least. We got a solid prequel story, lots of sidequests on the main island that unlock as you advance the main quest and the atmosphere/art style/cutscenes are so damn good. I think Nintendo really wanted to drive the "muh cinematic games" point home and they nailed it. They already know the superior gameplay is in AlttP/ALBW so might as well follow the style of cinematic games which can't be done properly on handhelds.
repeated bosses, you fight the imprisioned and Girahim, 3 times each.
Koloktos is dope tho.
boring everything
The swimming in this game was terrible. Had to twist the hell out of my hand to have any semblance of control.
I really enjoyed it, I'd put it ahead of Twilight Princess although I'm sure a lot of other people would disagree. I found the motion controls to be pretty fun, my only criticisms are that they could have done more with flying and there's one boss you have to fight like 3 times. Great dungeons though, some of the best in the series.
>boss/monster requires a stabbing motion with the sword.
>If there is even the slightest quiver in your stabbing motion, the Wii registers it as a swing.
Basically that, other gimmicky motion control bullshit, and watching a cinematic that reveals the solution to a puzzle followed by Fi jumping out of your sword to tell you that "Hey Link, I am 89% sure that what you just saw in that cinematic is exactly what you need to do to solve that puzzle you faggot."
But it was cool to fight Oni Akuma at the end.
>If there is even the slightest quiver in your stabbing motion, the Wii registers it as a swing.
For me, stabbing was the one attack I never ever messed up.
Stupid looking monsters inc tentacle boss.
Fighting that damn walking pine cone three times
I don't have a motion plus wii mote and can't emulate it. Only zelda game I have never played because it requires bull shit hardware.
Fi is absolutely awful and basically ruins the whole game on her own.
I actually liked it otherwise.
Think the controls are kinda shite to be perfectly honest. It could be that I don't have a big enough room or whatever, but the blocking of swings was fucking annoying as shit whenever I moved into position to make a swing.
>It could be that I don't have a big enough room or whatever,
You know you can just use your wrists right? Not fling your whole arm around.
This.
Don't forget they added a sprint button for all the cod players to feel right at home. (nothing against cod)
Seriously, beyond games like Dark Souls where the stamina bar is meant for heightened challenge, when has a stamina bar really been a good idea. It was stupid in Diablo 2, it's stupid in Skyward Sword
>this thread just discouraged me from playing
is twilight princess a more difficult game?
no. TP is easy as fuck.
None of the Zelda games are difficult.
Zelda games aren't inherently difficult, they're more just experiences to be had. Just play the game, user. Decide for yourself what you think of it.
Zelda 2 is fairly challenging
OoT and MM have some challenging dungeons if you don't use a guide
The motion controls for SS may have been great on paper, but the execution was all sorts of awful with the combat just boiling down to "swing in THIS direction" puzzles rather than just being straight up swordfighting or hacking and slashing.
Nintendo already published a game proving how to do motion-controlled sword-swinging RIGHT but didn't bother to take inspiration from it.
It's boring as fuck. Everything about it was boring. It wasn't hard, it didn't look all that great, the story was alright but kind of boring, only fun character was Groose, Demise story was retarded, the boss fights were pretty sad, only memorable environment was the ocean desert part which was GOAT but only consisted of 1 relatively small area.
Today I started playing SS, just finished the first temple and I'm already annoyed at how gimmicky the gameplay is. The sword swings don't register well, it takes forever to kill a single regular monster and the dungeon design was so utterly boring and uninteresting.
I'm seriously hating the combat so far but I'll keep playing a bit more, I just hope the gameplay gets a bit more interesting.
I don't understand people's problem with stamina, I thought it was a good inclusion, you could actually run, which is something I felt that the 3d Zeldas needed, and it didn't really fuck up anything.
Use this Gecko code, press 2 before entering each temple, and Fi will stop interrupting you. Press 2 again to disable it before going back to Skyloft or the story will go back in time to the Sky Ceremony.

CC000000 00000000
00955D5D 000000FF
E0000000 80008000
But what's the point of limiting it? Just let people run through environments and then slow down for combat. Limiting it just makes it so you have to stop every once in a while so Link doesn't run out of breath, that's it.
>We never got a good Star Wars light saber game on the Wii
>We never got to explore Howard's and cast spells with 1:1 movement with the wii motion+
Why did they fail us Sup Forums?
Get out of here, devil spawn.
Repetitive and have a lot of backtracking...damn, coming back in already finished dungeons and places are a pain in the ass.
HSSSSSSSSSSS
Horribly recycled content. Pretty much no new enemies once you get past the middway point, just recolors and those disappointing as fuck lava hands.
Scrapper can go get fucked.
I like the game and I can still admit its flaws.
>empty as fuck sky, more boring than even WW's ocean
>only one actual town in the entire game
>enemy variety heavily suffers from the bulk of your foes being variants of the bokoblin
>literally everything about Fi
>touchy motion controls, even if you master them they still fuck up once in a while, and stabbing is nearly impossible to do consistently
>fighting the imprisoned three times for no reason
>fighting ghirahim three times for no reason
>shield meter mechanic stops mattering the moment you get the sacred shield
>managing stamina is a chore, it should have only been used for climbing and the like, not for when I'm just moving around the overworld on foot
>everything about the tadtone collection
>slingshot becomes irrelevant almost immediately
>can't have a full 20 hearts unless you waste two pouch slots for life medals
>can only skip cutscenes on hero mode
>>shield meter mechanic stops mattering the moment you figure out that shield bash doesn't take damage
FTFY
Nah, the shield bash at least required some skill and timing, and there was always the possibility of losing the wooden shield to fire or getting electrocuted with the metal shield. You don't even have to try with the sacred shield because it's immune to both of those and it auto regens even if you do fuck up the shield bash timing.
shitty controls
empty boring world much like ww and tp
fi is annoying
first link who started the legacy and forged the mastersword is the biggest pussywhipped errand boy bitch of them all
exploring the sky is boring despite skyloft having alot to do
I still like it though
It's been discussed to death OP. The pacing was garbage; the awful worm fight you have to do again and again; the barren, empty sky that makes the Great Sea look like Grunty's Lair.
Groose was the only good thing that came out of that game
>Groose was the only good thing that came out of that game
ahem
>What the fuck is your problem with it?
Nothing?
It's just the worst Zelda game that was ever made.
SS is more difficult by a wide margin.
I don't think Legoman's inflated sameface came from Skyward Sword.
Nothing really, I liked it enough to play through it twice. Had its ups and downs but was a good game overall. That said, I would say it's my second least favorite and that I have certainly had my fill of it after two playthroughs.
Guys is there a way to START skyward sword in hero mode? hacked save file or whatever?
i want a difficult zelda game
>in b4 >zelda >difficult
HELLO HERO, WELCOME TO THIS NEW AREA
HAVE A PUZZLE
it took everything that had been culminating and stagnating zelda for years and just dumped it all over the game
its the kind of game thats mediocre at best, and the fact that it comes from such a heralded series just makes it all the harder when you end up fighting a giant goofy dinosaur with stubby feet and giant goofball toenails for the second time and you just end up saying "man what happened to this series?"
>I want a difficult Zelda game
SS in Hero Mode isn't particularly difficult, no more so than WW or vanilla TP HD Hero Mode. Now the latter with the Ganondorf amiibo? Shit's one-shot city for like two-thirds of the game, but even then upon actually dying in TP (I know, right?) you find out that death has pretty much no consequences. You even spawn back in the room where you died, not even WW was that casual. So close, yet so far.
WW and TP HD both allow you to start hero mode on your first playthrough.
I have no problem with it, I love every 3D Zelda game.
>best music
>best Zelda
>best bosses
>great art design
>cutest girls
It's a very comfy game.
Drags out a little bit near the end and traveling is a bit dull, but even the difficulty is higher on average compared to other 3d Zeldas, which is worthy of applause.
Haters are biased aganist the Wii, not necessarily without reason, but this game gets much more flak than it deserves.
Zelda games are made for babies. They're not even remotely difficult.
I'd say it was less a matter of stagnation and more a logical conclusion. As the 3D Zeldas progressed they, and in a way the series at large, got more hand-holdy and linear, and SS was a tipping point. Aonuma has even gone on record saying that a thought process behind its development is that it wouldn't be fun if players got lost. Thankfully he's had a change of heart since then but it's telling that we had to reach such a contradictory mentality at all.
The NES games have some teeth, and TP HD's Hero Mode with the Ganondorf amiibo probably has the most unrelenting damage output in the series. Shame it fucked the clutch with its lack of death penalties.
>too many recycled mini-bosses and bosses for a game at the time
>no option to disable Fi in dungeons
>too many recycled mini-bosses and bosses for a game at the time
>hero mode has to be unlocked
>too many recycled mini-bosses and bosses for a game at the time
>too much hand-holding, even for a 3D Zelda
>too many recycled mini-bosses and bosses for a game at the time
solid points
also seeing him again in hyrule warriors kinda triggered me
I can't imagine TWW's hero mode being that difficult because.
A Enemies do such pitiful damage that taking twice as much would probably only be a pain before Forbidden Woods.
B I don't think I've ever been hit by Molgera ever. He's that shit.
I imagine Moblins being a slight pain though. I think their polearm is actually quite nasty for so early in the game.
not a single thing you listed is true
>best music
Wind Waker
>best Zelda
Spirit Tracks
>best bosses
HAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHHA
really? 3 imprisoneds, 3 ghirahims, a fucking rock with legs, and FUCKING tentalus are the best bosses in the series? Koloktos is good but he's nothing special, he just seems better compared to how irredeemably shit the rest are.
>great art design
shitty watercolor is not 'art design'
>cutest girls
Ocarina of Time
It also kills heart drops which means a.) every hit actually counts and b.) there's a reason to prepare and invest in potions. You'd be surprised at how much damage you can accumulate going through a dungeon with 2x damage and no heart drops. I won't say it's hard, but it's enough to make me believe that the heart drop mechanic has long since overstayed its welcome. The game felt MUCH better without it.
thats not true at all. games like the original, zelda 2, the oracles, alttp and even OoT all had difficult parts, mostly puzzles when it comes to the oracles and oot. it was meant for everybody, why do you think they slipped themes like genocide and torture into oot? they arent things a child would think or even care about, but an adult will notice and make the experience better for them
just because a game isnt fucking battletoads doesnt mean its meant for babbs
Not him but I actually liked the Ghirahim fights. Both sword duels and human sized opponents are cool, and his fights actually punished poor execution on the player's part. I don't think they were a slog at all unlike the awful Imprisioned fights.
>Handholding
>Empty hub
>Awkward controls
>Nothing to do or find, no incentive to explore
>You can't target and shoot at the same time
>Unremarkable boss battles, save for one
You must really suck at video games.
>Wind Waker
Has great individual tracks, but as far as the overall soundtrack SS is king.
>Spirit Tracks
A worthy choice. The only accepatable option aside from SS.
>3 imprisoneds, 3 ghirahims, a fucking rock with legs, and FUCKING tentalus are the best bosses in the series?
The imprisoned was shit, but Ghirahim is a very in-depth boss if you look close enough.
All the other bosses were very good and required you to do more than stunning them with whatever item you just got in that dungeon.
Every Zelda game has bad bosses with one or two memorable ones. This one is the opposite.
>shitty watercolor is not 'art design'
>shitty watercolor is not 'art design'
Design =/= style.
>Ocarina of Time
They're more flashed out and more diverse, certainly, but considering the cuteness alone Peatrice can single handedly win SS the champion spot. Kina and Orielle are probably cuter than most of OoT girls too.
>but as far as the overall soundtrack SS is king
theres one decent song from ss, gate of time, and thats it. the rest of the ost is just outright bad
You gotta be blind by rage to belive this.
Or not have paid attention to the music while you were busy haitng the game. That's possible too.
Alright I know this post is over 3 hours old but I feel like SOMEBODY should have told you by this point that you're wrong, so I'll do it.
SS's biggest problem was handholding and railroading the player at any given point, and this is especially egregious given that this is a Zelda game. Fi is intrusive and obnoxious, as well as doing as much as she can to prevent you from ever having to sit and think your way through puzzles. Reused areas and bosses also make the game very dull at many points - at the very least Ghirahim's fights became progressively more engaging, but The Imprisoned is shit every time you fight him. The Sky also manages to (somehow) be a more disappointing version of the Great Sea. Items range from acceptable or expected functionality to downright useless (dust bellows, beetle) in most scenarios. Tadtones sucked nuts, please don't try and argue against this.
Now this isn't to say the game did nothing right. It did a remarkable job of working with the Wii's limitations and still made the game look pretty, and I genuinely found combat more engaging than "wait for the big flashing A to kill darknut" that Wind Waker had going for it. Upgrades were useful and good for money sinks, but farming items was not the best way to implement an upgrade system - still okay though. Boss rush was also good, and actually had useful rewards to offer. Final boss was ultra-hype, the spinning lightning-plunge for the kill was great. Groose is an excellent side character.
It's not a BAD game by most metrics, but it sure as hell isn't anywhere NEAR top 3 for ANY type of Zeldas, 3D or otherwise.
And we call this "taking the bait".
...
I'm not trying to defend SS but "railroading" and linearity isn't a bad thing.
There are a lot of great games that 100% linear.
The problem with SS is it gives you the illusion of choices and the ability to explore, when really it's the most linear zelda ever made.
Fi is constantly holding your hand, and -literally- repeating every single conversation to you twice for no fucking reason.
Then there's just the laziness. 3 of everything. Reused areas, shit mechanics, and everything is just so drawn out to the point where it's horrible.
