Explain to me the appeal for Bioshock

Explain to me the appeal for Bioshock.

I tried playing for a few hours but I still don't get why it's so praised. Not saying it's horrible, but it's surprisingly mediocre.

It's an atmospheric fps with lots of weapon variety, brutal combat, great level design and a 4th wall breaking story.

If you don't at least like the first Bioshock you have APPALING fucking taste.

Wait till you play Infinite. I don't particularly love the first game, but can see the appeal. Infinite is fucking trash, how anyone can see merit in either its gameplay or story is beyond me. Only good thing is its art direction and even that shits the bed fairly early on.

Bioshock 1 and 2 are above-average in terms of storytelling and artdesign, especially nowadays.

Bioshock Infinite is a turd that pretends to be deep. Redditor's favorite.

why though if you dont like it whats the point?

First one is really fucking good, even 2 I had a lot of fun with.

Infinite is shit. Dumbed down to hell, shitty story with forced in multiple dimension shit, way too easy. At least the art is nice.

it shines to the fullest to adult people

...

And you start off with the other two weapons you need to finish the game. Ice + Wrench.

I couldn't complete it because I hate infected shit. I find those kind of monsters boring as fuck. It ruined DX:HR for me (thankfully they were the final mobs before the end and I at least had fun mowing them down cause fuck not killing them, I didn't get shit for going full non-lethal).

Keep in mind that it did come out in 2007.

play through 1 and 2 then play an hour of infinite. 1 and 2 are good games that are propelled to unparalleled greatness because their sequel is that fucking atrocious.

Infinite isn't that bad. It starts to drag towards the end though, and once you you get to that shitty airship level it outright becomes a chore to play.

>Game has awful combat
>There's an entire level based around JUST combat
>You do nothing but shoot things for 10 straight minutes

They wanted it to be this epic, huge battle but it's absolutely the worst part of the whole game.

I mean, I think Bioshock is okay. I payed through it once, found it enjoyable enough. Not my cup of tea & certainly not one of my favorite games ever. Do you really need it explained to you why people like it? Is it really that hard to wrap your head around people having different tastes than you?

its not bioshock stupid. it might as well been called skybound.

I bought Infinite + Season Pass because they originally promised the creation story of the place. Remember the promotional art of the guy looking like Uncle Sam holding out his arm to somebody with his foot on a railing? That was suppose to be part of it.

But they went bankrupt before finishing it.

I also thought the ending was neat only because 99% of people I talked to didn't see what I saw. It was terrible and I got very very very bored. It could have been so much better.

Had they done a flashback fight where you're doing Wounded Knee and the creation of whatever the place was called and how it became the Facist State.

I thought had they managed to condense Spenglers paper on Empire into 3 DLC's, you know, starts out small, then expands, then reaches it's heights, then include more spying on it's own population, then military crackdowns, then to it's death.

>Ice + Wrench

lol what? Upgrading the shotgun and electric plasmid is the way to go. The ice plasmid is fucking shit, m8.

Peeps here were around 16 when they played it. It has always been kind of average

I havent even reinstalled it to play the dlc.

I liked it. When it first came out there were several appealing features:
> novel art design and setting
> large variety in combat style through plasmid choice and weapon upgrades
> long game time with a variety of different maps
> genuinely enjoyable story with some level of depth
> atmospheric, with some level of tension always present.

They screwed the pooch with Bioshock 2 desu and I haven't played Infinite as a result.

So it can only be like the first game to be a "Bioshock" game? Even with all the other Bioshock features?

It doesnt have any of the important features. Mainly being a horror survival.

>Any of the Bioshock games
>"Horror survival"

What fucking game(S) did you play? They're not scary and they're certainly not about survival.

Oh you're mentally retarded. Adorable.

>ice plasmid is fucking shit

Objectively wrong. Winter's Blast 3 + wrench literally shatters everything.

>best bioshock is infinite because reasons.
>I know what I'm talking about guys.
stop replying to me. its futile.

The electric plasmid is a literal stun on anything and everything - it's basically cheating. The shotgun upgraded to anything + electric = easy mode.

The electric plasmid is OP as fuck.

I have a boner fantasy about creating/living in a Rapture-esque city because it's extremely comfy and that's really why I like playing it. Gameplay is 6/10 on the first games (slightly better in 2). Infinite looks pretty and it's good for about an hour then it shits the bed.

Can you read?

I know what I'm arguing about looks like all you can do is move goalposts for what the fuck ever reason.

wrench and any elemental is like playing skyrim with archer, makes the game a snorefest. wrench alone with the jockey tonics can one hit everything in the game on any difficulty level except big daddies

I wasn't disagreeing with you, electric + anything is broken as fuck too. All 3 games have a multitude of insta-win combos. Infinite in particular is notorious for this.

>upgrade machine gun
>you now have a fully automatic weapon which doubles as a precision sniper rifle

I barely even bothered with "vigors" in that one, the weapons, gear, and resupply from Elizabeth was more than enough.

And even with big daddies, if you've got bloodlust on you can tank them and regain health faster than they can drain it.

play it on a harder setting.

Gameplay is absolute bottom-tier trash.
Story is pretentious, predictable crap.
Level and art design are top tier.

You're right, it's a mediocre game.

1 is just simplified System Shock 2.

...

Infinite is overrated, but the story is deep. It's not pretentious.

Literally retarded.

>tried to finish bioshock, 3 times now
>its just so fucking boring and bland
I liked Infinite though. Got lucky with the gear I found so I could min/max Vigors. Once I had return to sender I was practically immortal, that was lots of fun.

1 and 2 are good games. 2 took much longer to grip me compared to the first one.

If you don't have an interest in the setting and the plasmids, it probably won't do much for you. The main mechanics, namely the shooting, of the games themselves aren't particularly great. It's more of a case of the whole package being good.

The reason I really liked 1 was because I was immediately interested in its world and playing with plasmids. I can see it being boring as shit if you don't like either of those.

>this many fucking posts before someone calls it, hell before someone even mentions System Shock

what the fuck neo-Sup Forums

>Dude, Objectivism, LMAO
>DUDE, FREE MARKET CAPITALISM LMAO
>DUDE, LIBERTARIANISM LMAO

I don't get it either, I've tried 3-4 times to get into it but I am always bored and disinterested after 3-4 hours. I got something like 10 hours into it by forcing myself saying that I'd have that moment that just clicked and I suddenly got into it (which happened with Dishonored and Deus Ex: HR) but it never happened. I just felt like I should be spending my time playing something else.

I don't like first person games in general so I guess I'm biased, but I just never was able to be interested in it.

Hurr durr infinite realities which make all your efforts throughout the game worthless is somehow deep
The main appeal of bioshock is to show the dark side of science.

didn't a tonic in 2 fix that?

yeah its fixed in 2 but they're talking about 1 here

"It appeals to adults" is a childish argument.

What are some recommended ways of playing through it?

Engaging and well-written story, characters, highly detailed and atmospheric 1900s-esque game-world. It is a very underrated series.

Bioshock Infinite = Bioshock 1 > Bioshock 2.
