Anyone playing this? How are you liking it?

Why does square shove in so much fucking exposition and explain every little thing multiple times? Absolutely nothing is left up to just figure out or do natrually, I'm being told everything to do and how to properly play it. I think that bunny has told me about the gates 3 times, I get it. Not bad besides that, pretty fun. Hope XV isn't like that tho.

Slow and kinda fucking boring, but it's fun to watch my Pokemon grow in levels and fill out the board.

Having a game with two parties members was stupid. And unstacking is pointless 99% of the time.

How much have you played?

Like 10 hours in by this point? I just entered the fire zone past Tifa/Rydia.

I see. I just got done with the first dungeon, at least the ability effects are cool.

The localisation here is a pretty terrible rewrite, even by SE standards. I'm after the first fight with Shiva/Ramuh/Ifrit and at this point the number of faithfully translated lines could be counted on one hand. I can maybe excuse some of it because the script is loaded with puns and wordplay, but not the rest. They're taking every opportunity to make Lann come across as an obnoxious retard in the localisation where he wasn't before, while Reynn is constantly being sarcastic and hurtful towards Lann where she wasn't before. And that -the verbal tic that Tama has is just a total fabrication of the localisation, so I don't know what the fuck they were thinking there.

I should've just gotten the Japanese version and tried to power through that instead.

There's the Japanese va pack you can put on. Although I don't know if it will change the dialogue.

That's what I'm using to notice all the changes they've made.

I must be missing something, why would you want the japanese version then if you can just use that.

The worst part was the anime intro, i just sat on my couch, mouth open, perplexed, cringing abit

I got the English version with Japanese audio due to ease of interpretation. If I got the Japanese version I'd need to struggle with reading everything too but at least I wouldn't be reading all the rewrites of the localisation.

>he knows Japanese

weeb

Lann is pretty retarded in the japanese version too. he uses a lot of bad japanese puns as well.

Youre right about reynn though.

Freya when?

>Lann is pretty retarded in the japanese version too.
Yeah, he definitely is, but that's no reason to make him even more of a retard in the localisation. They're pretty much flanderising him.

Can any krauts comment on their localization? I'M considering getting it.

I hope they keep pumping em out, I just used sephiroth once I realized I had him. That gave me the biggest grin. There aren't enough spaces to carry mirages, I am getting so many cool ass monsters.

>I just used sephiroth once I realized I had him.
Wait, has he been in the storage box this entire time?

I'm still using the stacks I first built, everything else I've imprismed has been a step backward without having to grind out ~12 levels

He was a code from the day one edition. Luckily target still had one left when I picked it up a couple days ago.

Yeah, I've redeemed the code, but where do I get him from?

>get to besaid for the first time
>AH HA HA HA HA HA

He's just available in battle I believe. Just equip his medallion to your case or whatever the fuck.

>Just beat the game

HAHA HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THIS GAME

Normal or true ending?

>Enna Kros never told us to beat the federation

HOLY FUCKING SHIT.

Daily reminder the twins share a bed and probably fuck

>Put Reynn in human form and Lann in chibi form
>Reynn sits on the bed and Lann is at the exact height to look up her skirt

I'm looking forward to doujinshi.

Normal

Just did the Odin and Male Shiva quests and I'm fucking dying.

This is absolutely my GOTY, I'm so happy KH2.8 was pushed back so it won't compete for this spot.

B R E E D

>Male Shiva
Come again?

He's a hero of justice.

Quick Sup Forums tell me what your stacks look like. I wanna mix it up after sticking with Behemoth/R/Black Chocochick and Mythril Golem/L/Red Bonnetberry for so long.

>why do japanese shove in so much exposition

FTFY. Happens in animu too and kills any semblance of possible depth.

"You mean that event that happened 7 years ago that explains the current situation?"

I am liking it very much.

Monsters are cute, npcs are cute, environnments are pretty and the music is really good. Battle system is really enjoyable and is never feels slow thanks to the fast forward button and team management gets pretty addictive. Plot seems pretty meh, but this game emphasizes more the journey instead of the actual goal, and Japanese voices are mandatory if you are a little bit weeb.

Although not that bad, SE took too much liberty on the translation. And half the time, the original meaning is out the window.

A really enjoyable experience for now ( about 15-20 hours in )

Also chibi sephiroth is CUTE!

The only thing turning me off on this is no multiple saves.

My stacks consist of mirages exclusive to that area.

Do you ever get S forms for Lan and Ren?

I'm surprised that it's actually reasonably difficult if you play it on active mode at the default speed setting. The demo was a poor representation.

The script is filled with jokes, particularly puns. Reynn and Lann are a manzai duo.

Lann is stupid because he's a boke, and Reynn chastises him and acts superior because she's a tsukkomi.

And the translation can't be faithful, because their dialogue is a LOT of wordplay. This is really goddamn easy in Japanese, not so much in English, and absolutely impossible with the same words/meanings.

Reynn>Mishiva>magic jar
Behemot>Lann>Tama

I heard that during postgame you can completely remove Lann and Reynn from stacks.

Mate, I already pointed out the wordplay being the one part that I can excuse them not being faithful with, but their comedy dynamics don't excuse the script being totally different almost all the time, or what I said about the localisation exaggerating both of their character traits. And it certainly has nothing to do with what they did to Tama.

Serafie's Japanese laugh is literally Beavis.

Well I'm no turbo-weeb who imported the Japanese version or anything, but from what I've heard Tama overuses です and that's where the- comes from.

If it were me I would have just struck the tic altogether, but I frankly don't find it that troubling.

Anyway, the script is fine. Great, even. It's probably a bit removed from the original but I don't think there's a way to accurately translate a game with dialogue and characters like this.

This is the sort of game that draws a clear line between "translation" and "localization."

For the past 20 or so levels my stacks have been mainly Lann/Reyn in L mode with Shiva/Ifrit/Ramuh in some mixture in S/M with either Tama or Sylph

Aside from bosses with no weaknesses, it's almost required to have every element available to you.

Though I feel like I'm just super fucked in the Physical hit department, if the game even has strong hits.

Thing is if you try to explore like the game encourages you too, you tend to get op rather quickly

>shows elemental weakness
>doesn't tell you if the monsters have high def or high mdef

>but from what I've heard Tama overuses です and that's where the- comes from.
Everyone uses desu. Tama uses nano desu. But Tama doesn't even use it that much, only for maybe 1/3 of her sentences. Meanwhile the localisation stuck that -the tic into every single sentence, often multiple times. They pretty much just made it up themselves at that point.

>Anyway, the script is fine. Great, even. It's probably a bit removed from the original but I don't think there's a way to accurately translate a game with dialogue and characters like this.
Come on, of course there is. It's really easy: all you have to do is not rewrite each line of dialogue into something totally different, which is what they've done. It's much more effort to translate something and then rewrite it into something else than it is to just translate it faithfully in the first place. The wordplay can be excused, the rest can't.
You might think it's a good localisation but this is the same deal with why the west and east have such wildly different receptions of Lightning; the localisation constantly changed lines so she'd be more aggressive and standoffish, which ends up reflecting on the character as a whole and changing the perception of it. Lann is meant to be a bit of an idiot and a goofball, not a retard who can barely even keep track of what people are saying to him. Reynn is meant to be a strict older sister who gets exasperated with Lann's antics, not a mean-spirited person constantly taking jabs at him. These sorts of regular small changes to the script add up to entirely different characters.

>Reach first boss
>100% resistance to all ailments
This is going to be every boss, isn't it?

>all you have to do is not rewrite each line of dialogue into something totally different
But the majority of the dialogue involves jokes and wordplay

Could you give me some actual examples?

Bosses being immune to statuses isn't exactly a new concept for RPGs user

In fact it's pretty standard.

Just got to the 2nd dungeon and a love it.

I never checked much.

But I do know one of the final bosses had 0 resist to Slow, sadly he recovered from it in 3 turns.

Reynn and her SM Fairy were pretty great from what little I watched on streams.

>complaining about localization

A direct translation of this game would be ass in englsh and you know it.

Tell me any game that has had a direct translation that was good.

what the hell? is this the vita version? it looks like classic FF.

I am being blown away by the desert dungeon.

The dugeon itself is nothing special, but the atmoshpere and the music are so good!

>Warrior of light fell in love with generic princess and not Goblin Princess

Goblin Princess is pure.

>Could you give me some actual examples?
One that did strike me as making Lann out to be a retard was when you reach the first town and encounter the goblins. A townsperson says "It's the Bahamut Army mirages!" and Lann follows this up with aizuchi of just repeating it as "Bahamut Army mirages...?". The localisation changed this to "Bahamoo? What's a bahamoo?", which instead of conveying that Lann is wondering about there being a Bahamut Army who control mirages instead conveys that Lann is a retard who can't even repeat a word that was just said, and much less consider the situation.

As a single instance it seems pretty minor, but when the entire game is like this it changes the perception of the character.

If you'd like, I can start playing again in around an hour and write down more examples. That's the only one I remember off the top of my head because after the first few minutes it became clear that almost nothing was going to be faithful and I stopped noting most of it.

pure slut

Reynn is

Glow moogle
Reynn
Magitek Armor A

Lann is

Paleberry (the S size one)
Lann
Magitek Armor P

It lets you hit all the elemental weaknesses seeing as Magitek has the beams, moogle has wind, and paleberry has darkness + light. Use extra mirajewels to get libra and other skills if you want.

Are you autistic?

>Caring about translation accuracy or preserving characterisation means you're autistic
If you say so.

Well user. I genuine interested since i can't read/understand Japanese. Do tell more.

Most battles turn into press the touchpad and hold the fast forward button. There are some decent endgame battles I suppose, particularly in the coliseum and the occasional murkrift, but 1% of the fights being decent is just unacceptable.

I liked how the character's moveset being based on what monsters they have equipped. It reminded me a lot of the junction system in FF8 where a character's command list was based on what summons they have equipped.

I had fun leveling up my mons and seeing them grow from cute chibis to XL monsters, but the grind to get them to 100% completion is too much. I think the coliseum should award EXP personally.

The best parts of the game were completing interventions in which the two main characters had no role in the intervention's story outside of the actual battles (like seeing Snow, Gilgamesh and Celes all chill out for example, or seeing Cactuar, Tonberry and Moogle all gang up to defeat Tifa). I fast forwarded through a lot of the main story's cut scenes, they were just too unbearably cringey for me, and not in the entertaining way. Kingdom Hearts is cringeworthy in an entertaining way. The writing and plot in both crossover spinoffs are atrocious, but KH has that magic touch. KH is a beautiful trainwreck while WoFF is just bland accident, barely a pile up.

I also didn't want to put on Japanese VA because I enjoyed hearing the actual FF characters speak, like listening to Tidus and Yuna speak to each other after all these years was a blast of nostalgia, too bad there wasn't more of that and much like KH the game focused too heavily on its OCs.

Level design went from great to super boring. The first place being Corneria really hyped me up for things to come. Corneria looked great in this game and there was a lot of neat background things, like the mural in Serah's castle. Midgard and Garden were disappointing though, they were like a room. Much like this game's OCs, the original dungeons and levels were awful, especially the final dungeon.

Overall, I don't see who this game was suppose to be for. If it was for FF fans, they didn't go far enough and the game is absurdly easy if you know anything about Final Fantasy or just JRPGs in general. If it wasn't for FF fans, like newcomers or little children, I would say this game does more harm, gives people the wrong impression of the series. If they want to make kidsbop Final Fantasy, they should just continue Crystal Chronicles or make something akin to Final Fantasy 3 / 4 Heroes of Light / Bravely Default, but not bad like those games.

>Need to capture King Tonberry
>It has a move called 'Everyone's Grudge' that does 8k damage and hits my entire team whether stacked or unstacked

Jesus christ.

Man, fuck the last boss, this is some random bullshit. I fucking hate confusion in rpgs, biggest bullshit status effect.

Use monsters that resist it in your stack, then.

Yeah, it's a great idea to swap for weakass monsters on the final boss.

The story seems super cringey but the gameplay seems fun. I wonder if id have no problem with the story if it wasnt for the chibi-style. This reminds me of #FE, it has something that puts me off but does well in other areas.

respond to this

anyone here managed to beat the xenogear yet?

To be honest i dont think they expect kids or newcomers to play XV or something like that. They made a game that appeals to kids and casuals. Cute artstyle and a feature that will keep them busy. They tap onto that market, if it works they just need to keep doing something similar.

Cherry Tree High Comedy Club.

Remember to fall down a hole in one of the areas to get the sphinx.

Just use everyone's grudge to cheese it out, also level up ultima weapon and bahamut to damage buffer it.

I don't know what everyone's problem is with the chibi style. It's cute.

The whole idea is to be a lighthearted adventure with a pair of goofball protagonists and their cutesy mascot companion.

Nah, the un-westernised patch didn't give it a new faithful translation, it just slapped the Japanese character and location names into the original heavily liberal script.

I really can't think of any direct translations at all outside of fan translations and visual novels.

Well, unstacking isnt supposed to be good. You get unstacked as a consequence of enemies kicking your ass. Thats why they hand out wobblestoppers like candy.

Aside from that unstacking is pretty useful when trying to imprism low level mirages that you missed in previous areas.

I used to find it funny how Reyyn and Tama would poke fun at Lann sometimes but now it sounds like they're both just being dicks to him later on in the game like when he tries to cheer up Rydia and they give him shit for it.

I dont have a problem with it, its just not my thing. Like SoL anime or FPS games. It puts me off. Good for you if you enjoy it, you certainly were the target audience.

>Reyn Time
Sylph (bitch needs to let me access the Siren board already)
Reynn
Ahriman

>Just Roxas
Red Plumberry
Lann
Death Machine

Currently raising Ramewl to hopefully replace Death Machine. It kicks ass in random battles, but is more of a liability than anything in boss fights, which are more common than regular dungeons toward the end.

Lann - Gilgamesh - Pirate Moogle

Reynn - Baby Behemoth - Baby Shiva

Lightning's battle theme really is the best.

I want to kiss and cuddle Quacho Queen!

I thought the remix of blinded by the light is pretty poor since they synchronize it to her attack. I ended up using Shantoto's theme.

Worst Titan design I've seen

where you get titan at?

Crystal Tower. You have to fight all of the Kuza Beast to get items for four or five Gimme Golems. The Titan is in the basement of the tower, which you can get to from the entrance.

Titan evolves into Maduin, assuming you bother with the bullshit requirements in the Battleship minigame.

I'm in the Sunken Temple right now

How far into the game am I?

>Not using Refia's theme

I don't understand why the default battle theme doesn't have the classic Final Fantasy bassline. Or why the second default battle theme is so fucking terrible.

you can change battle themes?

Every time you buy a new champion medal you can make their theme your battle theme.

Yeah, it's in the Config menu.

I wonder what the Quacho Queen's underwater farts smell like haha

Holy fuck, where can i find another healing spring? There's a sidequest, the last i haven't done, that asks for two of them and i'm in fucking postgame and still haven't gotten any. The store doesn't sell them, the coliseum and interventions do not have them as rewards.

I think that the Mist Dragons in the Underground Prison respawn. You could just kick their asses again.
