Here is my honest opinion: I had an R9 280X and it died in less than 2 years. Why? because of the new crimson drivers that just roast the vram of these cards. AMD has terrible software at the moment and I would not trust AMD cards although I used them for a long time. Get a nvidia 1060 instead, it has the same price (more or less), less power comsumption, it produces less heat and has a longer life. Don't buy AMD cards until they remove the crimson drivers. I'm not a fan of nvidia, but since my R9 died, I'm at the edge.

I have had a 290 since day 1 and haven't had any of these issues, but I will agree crimson software is garbage.

If i recall nvidia is way better not due to hardware advantage but because most games run well with their drivers and a lot of games is usually made for nvidia drivers solely. AMD just cant really compete since most cards nowadays are all the same in the performance to price department, so the only good point is versatile drivers that don't crash and such. But on the other hand i watched a youtube video about nvidia updating their old drivers to run games poorly for people to invest in newest games and AMD getting new drivers getting better performance (but it's still only in some cases like, if i remember correctly crysis, where they turn off teselation of water under the ground - which was paid to get in the game by nvidia for their competitors to run poorly)
