When did you realize that snipers are detrimental to first-person shooters?

When did you realize that snipers are detrimental to first-person shooters?

When I first played one.

When they joined objective game modes and don't play the objective.

>one shot half way across the map without counterplay

Nice ""balance"".

They work in class-based games with well-defined roles and counters like TF2

>Sperg Cashgrab 2
>Well-defined roles such as roleplay servers
>Counters such as Overwatch

No the fucking don't.

You're either going to have 5 retards playing sniper and they're all going to be fucking deadweight, or the other team will have some autismo with 3000 hours on sniper turning the entire round into a No Fun Zone.

Snipers are fine as long as it isn't some stupid 12 year old trying to be the "badass lone wolf" in an objective game.

Uh, no

When I played against a good one.
You're basically forced to play around one player, constantly putting pressure and or focus them down. Not that fun.

>being an idiot and sticking out and getting sniped

You deserved it.

>just don't leave spawn or go for the objective bro
What did he mean by this?

It's fine as long as you have a stealth build that allows you to get them while they have tunnel vision.

>Lurking behind cover all game
fun

>wreck nigs as a sniper
>nigs on the enemy team switch to sniper to counter-snipe
>they're shit
>team steamrolls to victory because of it

>getting sniped in a tiny free for all map

Once again, you deserved it. Sounds like you just suck.

>tfw Bionicle is dead again

>objective
>free for all maps
What did he
>sounds like you just suck
>dying to a sniper depends on their skill, not yours
mean by this?

Back in 2008 when I played CoD 4 for the first time. I'm currently reliving that pain with the remaster and boy does it feel good to smack a bitch ass sniper down with my m16.

i think i was twelve, OP

When I replayed BFBC2 recently after 6 years..

What
What happened? Reboot got cancelled?

depends on the avg ttk of the game for non-sniper weapons.

If it takes longer than a fifth of a second or so to kill normally, snipers should only get a kill on headshots, have to compensate for velocity, and should take other penalties (health, movement)

People don't want to accept that sniper's on the battlefield ruin gameplay, but it's true.

A fucking sniper is supposed to stake out his target, take one shot, then disappear. What place on an actual battlefield does that have?

Honestly they just spit on game balance and shooters would be better off with snipers more a specialty thing.

Yup

>What place on an actual battlefield
And by actual I mean fantasy arena sized battlefield, of course.

>Bionicle died a peaceful death in 2010
>They pull it from its grave, ruin a decade's worth of lore by rebooting it, only to kill it again
I would've been furious at this, had I not lost my will long ago.

>Absolutely shit at close quarters
>Weak Rate of Fire
>In proper ones, they can't stay for too long in the same place without dying
>Not many games do this, but in some, they have less health that other classes, which means they don't last long without someone covering their back

Git fucking gud

>snipers aren't fun to play against in cod
>snipers aren't fun to play against in halo
>snipers aren't fun to play against in battlefield
>snipers aren't fun to play against in tf2
>snipers aren't fun to play against in csgo
>snipers aren't fun to play against in overwatch
>game devs: let's keep adding snipers to our games and make the skill ceiling extremely low
ebin

I dunno, i got sniped by Infantry Version Rifles in BF1 from the other side of the map, so it doesnt really matter if there are scopes, red dots or whatever, if you win you win.

The only on detrimental is people whining about players. As the old playa saying goes, don't hate the playa, hate the game.

You're retarded. Why retreat after killing one guy.
Why ignore the fact that snipers deny area better than most other 'tools'

'I'm gonna kill one guy and then retire'- Nobody ever.

>mfw some people think snipers makes a game more "tense" and "realistic" because you gotta stick to cover and crawly around behind things so you won't get popped off by one
>When in reality it's just straight up boring and irritating, especially for an action FPS that has no actual "realistic" theme to it

>what is HVT assassination
your move

>Some people think X

>But I think y and I'm right so stfu nubs.

>playing Destiny
OP, pls

All I was hoping for from the reboot was a big budget movie. Fucking Ninjago gets one, it isn't fair

He's probs got bodyguards.

And even 47 killed more than one guy.

I've never played Destiny before in my life, but snipers are a pain in the ass in every FPS I've ever played.

only shit snipers believe this

When I realized the truth that snipers will literally never be a balanceable thing in videogames. If the sniper sucks, he will be a dead weight and not do anything for an entire match. If a sniper is good, he will impose his will as the anti-fun master.

>the smallest nerf ruins them
>the smallest buff breaks the game
how do we fix snipers?

>skill ceiling extremely low
>when talking about snipers
What?

remove them from video games

>He doesn't know about the coriolis effect.

Remove them.

Snipers spend days moving and setting up in their marked position, stay a few more days lying on the ground in the exact same spot waiting for their target to show up, AND THEN take the shot IF given the green light. Their mission's done, and the last thing they wanna do is stick around.

How does hurricane spin affect video game snipers?

Boriallis effect?

It's not based on hurricanes you chumpmaster.

Try again

they're good in RO2 and ok in TF2

its simple, you take the shot and GTFO
you should of course be ready to handle retaliation, leave them a nice preset
but you dont not want to stick around for the rest of that party

>Game in which you play as Simo Häyhä in the Winter War never

Well it definitely is you moron it just happens to affect both.

I'm just saying actual good gameplay isn't "There's a Sniper on the Roof!" bullshit where Snipers are literally roof to roof picking up trash in one shot. It's not fun dude. If you only had a sniper match, it would be infuriating. The exception I can think of is Perfect Dark, where that shit can see through walls and it totally changes the game up.

>Absolutely shit at close quarters
my unscopped360hitmarker would like to have a word with you

tf2
>DUDE YOU DIE THE ATTOSECOND YOU SHOW UP ON MY SCREEN LMAO

When a simple program can make you reach the skill ceiling (aimbot) you know something's wrong

It's simple. We slow game bullets down to barely dodgable speed.

its simple, we kill the hitscan man

big burst damage hitscan weapons were a mistake

>lmaobox fight

So we agree. Doom was the perfect game.

just make suppression more relevant and it all will have its place, destructible environment for maximum fun

GIT FOOD GIT LUNCHBOX

im more of a arma man

>absolutely shit at close quarters

very few games actually have this be the case. only ones i can think of are tf2 and overwatch with the charge up mechanic.

...

I share your pain, too bad we never got the makuta mask

The first time I played a class based shooter. They're fine in CS because of the money system/smoke/flash and arena shooters but in your typical class based shooter they're fucking awful to play against.

>Absolutely shit at close quarters
Not in many games.

>Weak Rate of Fire
Doesn't matter, it one shots.

>In proper ones, they can't stay for too long in the same place without dying
not an argument

>Not many games do this, but in some, they have less health that other classes, which means they don't last long without someone covering their back
They are a billion meters away, doesn't matter.

>tf2 sniper
>weak up close
The heads just get bigger and easier to quickscope.
