Do I get it? Only mmorpg I've played is maplestory.
Do I get it? Only mmorpg I've played is maplestory
Bump
You will definitely get your 25$ worth. If after beating the two stories and the living stories you get bored you can always come back when more is out.
no. complete waste of money and the game is only getting worse, save your money.
Why is it bad? Whats gotten worse?
user, base game is f2p, try that first
otherwise yes
Too expensive, wait for 15 or less.
Or better yet, don't waste your money on it at all.
yes
...
definitely worth for half price.
played 1000+ hours ask me anything
leveling was way too slow when I played when it first came out. did they fix that?
since all I wanted to do was the story missions and the level gap just kept increasing faster than I would level.
What do you do at max level?
No that hasn't changed. They have released daily rewards which can give +1 level books. Also if you do pvp dailies with your reward track active you can get more of them. Other than that its the same.
If you have HoT you get masteries. You can raid, do FotM which have been massively improved. An of course make your character look cool.
I recall there being a huge rift in the playerbase between GW1 and 2.
I never got around to playing either, but what did they change to cause such an uproar?
The games are in name only. Even a lot of the lore wasn't used from the original. Not to say there isn't any used.
What is the playerbase like?
This, try it first before buying the expansion.
Very helpful. Some as with any game are elitist, but its rare as this game doesn't require a spread sheet.
Finding a decent guild is easy, and most will do all content. The group finder really helps as well if your guilds are being lazy. You can have multiple guilds and talk to them all at once. Its great if one guild really likes one thing like pvp but your other likes pve content.
Their starting to use more, with the mursaat turning up, dwarves possibly having relevance again and bloodstones being experimented on by the white mantle.
Supposedly next update takes us to Augury rock and potentially riding in the elonan wurms
The people who actually knew wtf they were doing at Arenanet left to make Motiga.
You'll get your moneys worth, but it's barely a fucking MMO. If you really want a MMO that atleast tries check out ESO.
sure, you get the original and the expansion for 24bucks though you will get bored fast
I saw I'm glad they are revisiting old lore. I would love to see what palawa joko has been up to for the past 200 years.
Why?
The game has only improved since the original release.
ESO looks like a downgraded gw2. I've also heard its incredibly easy. Even by gw standards
I quit somewhere about 7 months of waiting for Thorn whatever.
It's unsettling how much time I spent in the PVP matchmaking arena thing. I made literally like 700 gold just pvping.
The hilariously awful development roadmap is what killed it for me. Months of nothing or Living Story horseshit.
ESO is not as vibrant of a world, but it's much bigger. Also the end game content is actually so hard it's out of reach for 95%+ of the population because you have to actually git gud to do it. Most people who play ESO never really get to the end game that is fairly new as of this year.
I know fractuals were pretty hard tho. I honestly liked GW2, but I waited for months and months for ANYTHING and I realized I played an MMORPG solo for 150+ hours and then just did Moba matchmaking 5v5 for probably 1k+ hours.
I literally played a singleplayer RPG and a moba instead of MMORPG. Just know what you're getting into.
Supposedly re-routed the river so sunspear territory became desolate and the north is prosperous and lush.
Understandable. My friend is hard core in love with guild wars 2 and even he quit for a month before because of the wait. The content is a bit more steady now.
player here, no.
you wont touch HoT content after doing it a couple of times, raids are shit and the game went to shit after its release.
the only benefit that it gives you is activating your account for trading if you are f2p, gliding on tirya and autoloot.
Will we see Spamadan as a desolate trade town?
sounds like you got your moneys worth.
What did Thorn do? I know a friend said it broke the PVP arena and now fights are SUPER long and everyone is a beef cake. That could be fixed now or just a meta thing.
I might go back to the Arena one day. But for real what has even changed? The PVE was honestly irredeemable to me. There was no real trinity system to really back it up.
Dragons probably flooded it, the place was at sea level and those rose when they woke up.
Right now it just feels like you blow up in PvP, but I'm not really a pvper
Pve is the same. you can use a controller(tank) and heals, which are needed for raids, but normally pve is whatever you feel like. Just dont get hit and everyone can DPS.
Eh I've been playing ESO for almost a year and I'm finally having to make the push into Veteran Dungeons and 12 man raids. I'm going to ESO for my PVE these days. I do miss the GW2 arena tho, I'm hoping the new ESO arena coming out next year is at least as good as GW2.
I really am looking forward to a new expansion. The game has a healthy player base and honestly feels like its growing. The living story has gone in a good direction. If they keep it up i think they could get a good amount of population back
How long does it take to gear for end game content?
If the current living story season continues at this quality then i'm optimistic. the expansion feels far more "worth it" knowing of the content thats been added and is still to come than compared to its release.
its a shame this failed
It's one of the worst MMOs of all time
>Why is it bad
It will be hard to convey to you since you've only played maplestory, another objectively shit mmo.
It's essentially a shallow 3-d farmville when it comes to mmo depth, supported by a terribly optimized engine and the most incompetent devs on the planet.
It's a game that focuses on "story" except the story is a the social justice fan fiction of a 13 year old.
Agreed. If someone cant find 25$ in value in the games they arent trying very hard.
Depends on what type of player you are. I took some breaks over the year, but I hit max level on 7 different characters and did a lot of side quest stuff.
You could honestly rush one character to where I'm at currently in maybe 2 months addiction play style. Everything scales to you now as of October 2016 and I believe that made the whole "Game is too easy" part kind of go away. It's moderately challenging for a modern day MMO, but with smart play and builds you should be fine.
GW2 is fun too tho, it's more themeparky and has some really fun events. ESO has better side quest and a campaign tho imo. Plus the massive world is a huge plus for me, I love going to new areas and just roaming around.
They are both great B2P games with good business models.
Took too long to develop. There is no way you could get insane hype around a dota-clone anymore. Even tho Gigantic and Paragon are great games, neither of them will ever be a huge success when they get out of their betas.
Can I play ESO without a sub and still have fun?
I'm
I was looking for a little more detail, but I can see where you are coming from. The new stuff is a lot less SJW.
>Can I play ESO without a sub
Not him, but i've got +200h in and never done any of the dlc content and it's been tons of fun.
Don't come to Sup Forums for opinions on GW2. Most of us are GW1 vets (myself included), and have less-than-stellar opinions on the game.
That being said, GW2 is a pretty good game if you never got invested in the first one, don't care about endgame, or don't care about PvP.
NO NO NO. The story quests are horrible and ArenaNet is killing the game
> a lot less social justice warrior
That doesn't matter, why are you even considering the game when you've known it was one landwhales fanfiction.net account?
My friends play it
Hmm i might try it. Theres not much going on in gw 2 atm anyway.
I'm going to be completely honest here. So brutal truth.
The base game by itself is enough to last people to what I've heard for over 8-10 months. ESPECIALLY now that the other regions are free to roam with the One Tamriel patch (Used to only be allowed to go where your faction resides, essentially splitting the world 3 ways).
That said, the DLC comes from the Subscription also or you can just buy the DLC outright and have the content permanently.
The BIGGEST and only reason to own the subscription outside XP booster (not needed, I played without sub for months grinding characters) and getting 1500 cash shop coins a month (essentially 15 bucks) is the
CRAFTING BAG... is fucking amazing. It's only needed if you are big into crafting tho, it's honestly useless if you don't want to bother with crafting.
The only thing I'd recommend buying besides the base game is the Orsinium DLC down the road since the End game singleplayer content is in that DLC. Pretty much the best weapons in the game is these 1 man raids that are fucking stupid hard in the Orsinium DLC. That again could take your literally months and months before you'd want to even both it tho.
The other DLC unlocks some of the hardest dungeons in the game and some of the best regions on the map (Hew Bane DLC is the Thieves guild campaign, one of my favorite campaigns ever in an MMORPG).
TL;DR Nope, unless you are going to craft. It's worth it, but absolutely not needed. Also maybe spend 15 bucks on Orsinium down the road and the other DLC to unlock some of the Raids/Dungeons/StoryRegions
GW1 was one of the best online (pvp) ges out there.
GW2 has absolutely nothing in comon with the guild wars ttitle. Which makes things worse because the game should have had a totally different name, so it wouldnt make things more depressingly bad. Kinda like diablo 1 and 2 and the having an abomination called diablo 3.
If you didnt play many mmos, you could still give it a try. You dont know what to expect.
I got 3 keys for price of 1 due to an error.
Gave the other 2 to cousin and brother.
We couldnt last 1 hour and deleted the game.
I deeply regret paying money, even though i got 2 keys extra for free.
Probably the obly game that hurts me.
I like the idea of challenging solo content. Ill definitely take a look at it.
Youtube Maelstrom Arena. It's an interesting concept for an MMO. Only people who are good at the game have Maelstrom weapons essentially.
If you play PvP, yes. Heart of Thorns introduces masteries for PvP that are straight up pay 2 win if you don't have them.
For the story? No. Not worth it.
Im sorry for your loss. I know the loss of gw 1 hurts. It was one of my favorite games. I died inside when diablo 3 was terrible. LoD was what I spent most of my childhood playing
Your friends have shit taste. You need new friends.
>HoT announced
>Specializations announced
Fucking finally, since they are never going to make interesting elite skills, I can at least pick a specialization and feel like I'm making a meaningful build decisi-
>One specialization per profession
>Necromancer is now a melee class
>Guardian is a ranged class
>Ranger is a healer
ArenaNet is so fucking retarded it actually amazes me. The entire reason for specializations to exist is because it's supposed to be a choice.
If you're a new player, you will get your money's worth.
Then you'll get fucked over like the rest of us when the new expansion is released for 50 burgerbux and Heart of Thorns becomes free.
This looks and sounds extremely challenging. idk if i could git gud enough
I know ive tried to show them the light, but they have dumped to many hours
Just redownloaded GW2 after getting bored sick 2 years ago and wanted to give it a go again. Was trying to decide what class I wanted to play as and realized after looking through skill trees that none of them interested me enough to start from level 1 to get the feel for the game again. All the skills and traits look so boring.
-Already have an 80 ele and guardian. Ele was probably my fav actually.
-Dislike how Engineers are expected to use different belts. Feels like I'd be spending 80 levels using just flamethrower or grenades.
-Necro sounds rather fun, but by all accounts they are nerfed to the ground again and Anet likes them how they are. Also shroud is just lame.
-Have a 40 Ranger, pet shit never works out well endgame or in dungeons/raids in mmos though.
-Have a 50 mesmer that's got some really high crafting, so no rerolling that. Also most of her utilities and traits looked rather boring. I miss old mesmers.
I'm probably just jaded with mmos I think.
Build a Magika Nightblade. Essentially a Blood Mage.
It's the go to Maelstrom Arena fighter and one of my favorite heroes I built. I run around as an Eldritch Knight Blood Mage in heavy armor with a destruction staff and sword and board. Shit is great.
Keep going with mesmer, If you cant be bothered with some of the leveling then just do daily stuff and use the tome/scrolls from that to speed it up.
Can I do a 2handed sword nord and be beast?
To be honest, ESO has gone to shit with the last update and I can't recommend it. I enjoyed it a lot before it, but now it's unplayable for me. Why? A level 20 blatantly outclasses CP159 in PvP and PvE. You need to wear gear matching your level in order to get the maximum amount of damage, armor, hp etc.
A CP159 is 19 levels away from the last gear upgrade, which means you get a -66% damage penalty and other penalties. Not even considering the ridiculous cost of gear compared to those two levels.
Who the fuck thought that system is fun? There are fucking level 30's doing trials like its fucking nothing.
How is the new Heart of Thorns class in GW2?
Honestly, and ive been praising gw 2 this whole time. They screwed up hard. It feels unfinished especially its underwater stuff.
They were atleast useful until the recent nerf which crushed them. Now they aren't even taken into raids.
Yep.
Go 2hander Sorc if you want to ride around as a lightning ball critting everything
Go 2hander Nightblade if you want to do insane damage
Go 2hander Templar if you want to be a Paladin of justice not giving one fuck while you dish it out
Go 2hander Dragonknight if you want to been engulfed in flames constantly and have insane buffs
The class system is insanely versatile and the only thing you could fuck up is your skill bar.
Essentially all 4 classes can play all 3 roles Mage/Physical DPS/Tank. Except Sorceror, it really can't play Tank for shit.
A good rule of thumb I found is if an mmo offers a boost to current content, its combat isn't fun enough to level through, and therefore shit
They are a choice. You don't have to use them.
They're okay, but you need HoT because no vanilla gw2 spec is competitive in the meta anymore
Templar it is. thank you
Good music
Good cities
Everything else is pure fucking garbage
GW2 is just a legitimately bad MMO. It's probably the worst 60$ I've spent and that includes WoD.
Templar Stamina 2 hander is literally top 3 most played PVP class atm. It's a meat grinder on wheels and it takes a few people to take it down.
I really wanted GW2 to be good. In a lot of ways it is, but the devs just go out of their way to make the game worse. I stopped playing before HoT came out, and apparently it just ruined the game even more.
Shame, I really liked the world, the art, the races and outside of dungeons the combat was enjoyable. If the combat kept the trinity for dungeons, it would be a great game imo.
that's all ive ever wanted to be was a 2 handed killing machine. I really hope the warden is good in For Honor so i can continue this
>the devs just go out of their way to make the game worse.
this. I have over 7k hours on this game, and it's complete shit right now, and has been for a while. You should try it first since it's f2p...
Also WORST FINAL BOSS EVER
The whole story and adventure builds up to this, and it's pathetic.
>over 7k hours
jesus christ
Zhaitan is unironically the worst boss in video games as a whole
>specialization
>p2w
No.
>have to pay for it
>better than every other option
think before you fucking post
>Guilty Spark
at least Guilty Spark is over quickly
Except that they're flat out better than vanilla, they have double the damage and double the survivalbility.
