nothing. ttyd was perfect
I LIKE THAT JUMP
a lot of backtracking
wind waker, super mario sunshine and thousand year door are all games i love but are obviously rushed/unfinished
way too much fucking backtracking and meandering around the same areas
Bad level design and shitloads of backtracking. The first paper mario was better in everything but the extra combat improvements and writing.
It ended
I thought the backtracking complaint was a meme but I recently did a replay and counted how many times I actually backtracked.
Chapter 4 has you run up and down to the steeple and back SEVEN TIMES.
You're literally walking down the same 5 straight forest segments for longer than you're actually in the fucking steeple doing shit.
And then theres the island.
And the fucking train.
No sequel
...
SPM was a great sequel, it just wasnt an rpg.
And you didnt even mention boggly woods. And general white.
Oh my god...
Boogly woods wasnt too much backtracking, its just 4 levels of extremely bad level design that all looks the fucking same.
Glitz Pit.
>obviously rushed
How so?
of all the levels you could complain about, you complain about the best one?
they cut a lot of shit from the game if you go and look at whats in the game files. All your old partners were going to make cameos, as well as many other enemies. On top of the levels all feeling unpolished compared to Paper mario 1.
You see one of your old partners.
>Want to make a fangame
>Afraid of Nintendo shutting me down
Nintendo said they'd remaster it if it got enough support.
Like fallout 4
Either make it an original game with similar gameplay or ask for Nintendo's permission.
That could do it.
>of all the levels you could complain about, you complain about the best one?
>the chapter showcasing combat is the best part of the game.
Good laughs all around. The only thing it has going for it is the writing, but that's only relative to other parts of the game. And if I cared about story, I wouldn't be playing a video game.
Meanwhile, there is nothing to explore, the partner is an annoying child that never bothers to learn your name, and you get to sit through the "gameplay" that is 20 combats in a row against generic mooks with tedious restrictions on top of that. The only reason they didn't manage to stick backtracking in this level is there's nothing to the level in the first place.
I mean a new Paper Mario game, not a remake.
I would like to make an original game, but a fangame would let me actually make something while I polish the ideas for my original games, and giving me experience so I know what to change about my original idea before even starting it.
>how to make a fangame without getting shut down
don't make an official website
don't give any way for them to contact you
Don't remake a game they've already made and you'll be A-OK
>the chapter showcasing gameplay is the best part of the game
Yeah no shit. This game has barely any exploration at all, at least glitz pitz gave me something to do besides walk back and forth and talk to random shmucks.
Also:
>don't let it appear at a convention
>don't let a popular gaming magazine do an article on it
I put gameplay in quotes for a reason. While both exploration and combat are equally braindead, at least exploration provides more variety than "jump on the enemy until it is dead."
You're correct, though honestly walking through the levels in this game was very unenjoyable. After having to endure Boggly Woods, being able to not have to walk around everywhere and just have some fun fights against high level enemies is a breath of fresh air. Especially since Mario goes WWE is a fun concept in itself.
it was cool design bur a murder on the eyes after a hour and the song in the tree starts to siren in your brain. would be better in smaller doses
Did the AM2R DMCA really irk people this fucking much?
Nintendo has been doing shit like this for years, but that one fucking game being taken down seems to think anything fan related Nintendo will destroy, besides the fact there's still hundreds upon thousands of other fangames for people to play out there.
it needed a little bit more exploration and less downtime between battles then yeah it would have been perfect. But really I can't think of a better level. Pirates Grotto is pretty good overall, its just the early jungle section that is tedious.
Yeah, but I'm going off the latest example, if another Nintendo fangame since then got big and didn't get Nintendo shutting it down, my fears wouldn't be keeping me from trying it out.
Might try it out anyway in the end, but I still have some paranoia.
Backtracking and padding.
Really this is the problem with many Gamecube era games.
Wind Waker decided padding was an acceptable substitute for content.
Sunshine had that blue coin nonsense.
Best Waifu was a snaggletoothed mushroom.
Just don't
A. Remake a game based on one they've already made
B. Profit off of it (This is why all those fangames got shut down on GameJolt, they got ad revenue off of it)
C. Pussy out because another fangame got shut down (Pokemon Uranium did this, despite people claiming Nintendo shut it down)
My buddy gave me this game since he didn't have a gamecube anymore. Worth playing?
Cody ruined TTYD for everyone...
WHY.
this
Probably? It is considered a great game by many. If you played South Park: The Stick of Truth and liked it, then you will love TTYD
Don't tell anyone about it untilt it's done. Then make sure to put up a torrent link when you distribute it, just in case. Then it can't be taken down, even if they DMCA you or C&D.
All those shitty OC's
Too many reused enemies.
For a game that has garnered praise for being thematically different compared to other Mario titles, it sure does fuck all with its bestiary.
one of the best mario rpgs, its a must play
The more I replay TTYD, the less I like it.
However, the more I replay 64, the more I like it.
This. TTYD leaves a great first impression, which is honestly all that matters most of the time. If you play through it more than once, without something like a Danger Mario set to freshen things up, you start noticing the flaws.
Want to upgrade your partners? Go back to Hooktail Castle again!
Want to get Ms. Mowz? Go back to Hooktail Castle a THIRD time!
Here's your fangame right here.
64 just did everything better, thats why.
Chapters 3-7 are some of the best and most memorable levels ever.
Is the Gamecube just the console where every first-party Nintendo game was rushed to completion and stuffed with loads of padding to make up for it?
I mean they're good games, no doubt, but Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, Thousand Year Door, they've all got the same problems.
The only major bad aspect is fights you can't win.
Nothing like wasting all your items on a fight that is pointless.
Sunshine's problem was the camera.
TTYD had too much backtracking.
Wind Waker felt empty at first, but I've gained some appreciation for it over the years. The real bitch is the baton spamming in places.
>he wasted his inventory on the harriers
Sunshine also has two red coin missions and one Shadow Mario mission every world, uses secret stars for a big chunk of the star count, and there's blue coins.
It's still good, it's just very, very compromised feeling.
those games are still 9/10's in gaming history, especially when compared to the shlock of today.
It's been forever since I played Sunshine, how is it rushed?
>Glitzville is supposed to be an international attraction
>the crowds are mostly just Toads and Lakitus
I don;t think it's rushed, the problem is they didn't want to piss people off that wanted 120 stars like in 64 so they threw together that stupid Raccoon Jew who had like 30 fucking shines.
Sunshine is probably as long as DK64 or Banjo Tooie.
HNNNNNNNG
>DK64
No way, man. That game is in a league of its own in terms of absolute amount of shit to collect that all does different stuff.
The game is good. 1/10, try harder OP.
DK 64 has way more shit to collect than Sunshine. And the fuckers actually give you what you came for with that sexy, sexy 101%
Only 7 main levels
Blue Coins
So Color Trash bombed, right?
Yeah, surprising absolutely no one.
