Would FromSoft be able to make a soulsborne game set in the future?
Here's what i'm thinking:
Fuse bloodborne, dark souls, and metal gear rising to make a futuristic cyborg rpg set in a post apocalyptic future (post apocalyptic because it would allow for the somber settings and npc's that FromSoft just cant live without - literally) where we fight through bio soldiers (dudes in armor clones of dark souls with some new flair) and genetic abominations that were science experiments gone wrong (monsters that are stolen from bloodborne with some new flair) all the while trying to figure out why the world was ruined, who we are, what our goal is (eventually probably either set the world on a path to restoration [good ending], burn the world so it can start anew [bad ending], or rule the world [secret ending]) and obviously, dying a lot and getting our ass kicked while learning the game.
It's such an easy formula to follow, and it almost feels like a cop out - a clone of the same things previously executed - but shit, FromSoft found a formula that worked, and there's no reason why they shouldn't do it again in a different form.
Hell, I'd buy the game i just described in a heartbeat.
Ill probably just copypaste this in someone else's more popular thread if this one dies, i really want to hear opinions on this
Landon Wood
One thing I'm curious about, how do you downplay guns in a sci-fi setting other than rule of cool? Would some of the base mechanics change?
Jace Sanchez
Im thinking only certain enemies have guns, like imagine the hunters from BB- they all have unique variants of guns.
Basically im thinking literally the same gun system from BB except make them "plasma cannons" instead of ballistic guns.
Blake Perez
Considering you could have lasers in this game due to the setting, I would think maybe some stronger guns could be available for ranged builds, but aren't hit scan? Essentially replacing bows I would think.
Logan Turner
I like the running theme of dying and returning constantly being tied into the plot of every Souls game. How would that tie into a licensed Star Wars game with an original narrative?
Angel Powell
Cyber Souls could take all my shekles A remake/reboot of Otogi would make me really happy too
Kayden White
>star wars wut.
But as for the respawn system, idk- your character could HOLY SHIT
your character could be a ROGUE AI that keeps getting rebuilt at "bonfires" for reasons it doesn't know, that shit could be a great narative. fuck i feel smart for thinking of that
I never even considered guns replacing bows, neat idea - then we could have other "sci-fi tech' abilities function like spells/arcane abilities also
Nicholas Rivera
We had a thread like this a while ago and someone said a Souls-style Bionicle game.
That'd be cool as fuck.
Oliver Rivera
If they did I'd hope they stayed with the dark horror theme.
Brody Rogers
Armored Core For Answer 2.
James Taylor
Honestly, I just want From Software to focus on a re-imagining of the Armored Core series. I haven't been satisfied since 4.
Wyatt Clark
As long as it's a Sony exclusive with Japan Studio on board. Bamco is cancer
Benjamin Flores
Shit i have some old Bionicles I made to have different armor and weapons with certain movesets in mind. You could do alot of really neat designs with them, that'd be pretty awesome
Christian Powell
slow soulsborne combat wouldn't work well for a futuristic game. like you'd have actual guns to deal with
Hudson Gray
>more souls garbage
No.
Christian Anderson
Well, if alot of guns aren't hitscan, it could encourage dodging between projectiles as you approach enemies, so similar gameplay could be kept while adding more risk reward and speeding the combat up. If that's the case, maybe the amount of damage the player takes on average could be adjusted to accommodate for a more "in the thick of it" type combat
Adam Evans
I've never even heard of armored core, brb, 'bout to go look that shit up for knowledge.
OK looked it up. A re-imagining with the new tech we have today would be rad as fuck
Bamco is cancer but they DID have a lot to do with the creation of DS1, so thats something.
That's why i'm comparing this theoretical game more to BB's fast paced, no shield combat.
I even threw in metal gear rising in the original post for clarification
>I feel so smart for thinking of literally the most obvious narrative Good for you?
Jayden Bailey
>MGR adrenaline music literally the opposite of what soulsborne soundtracks are about.
Anthony Garcia
i'd play this for sure. i want the lovecraftian elements of BB mixed with far future
Wyatt Adams
Not gonna lie, i'm a teensy weensy bit high. Honestly idk how i didn't have that narrative in mind already.
Christian Bailey
Bamco was the reason Dark Souls was rushed
Carson Harris
>Muh souldborne
Just because it shares a developer and maybe some gameplay mechanics, doesn't mean it can't make itself unique in any way.
Liam Carter
Fair.....fair point.
Levi Russell
If you haven't heard of it, it would be awesome if they based it off of a manga called Blame!. It has a lot of the those futuristic cyberpunk dark themes to it.
Colton Reed
there an anime attached to that?
Hudson Cook
...
Nicholas Martin
Stop posting that shit image, you want that go play MGS rising
Easton Nguyen
I was thinking a cloning process you are clone number X or whatever aka chosen undead, you respawn in like some cesspool or something, I think that would be cool. But the robot thing could allow for sorcery being like modifications, like turning your arm into a cannon or making your blades magnetic or some shit (idk what magnetism would add but it was the first thing to pop in my head)
Jordan Ross
Is this bait?
Andrew Gray
should i read Blame! before Beserk? thats been at the top of my reading list
Adam Scott
which part are you referring to? cool concepts I've played MGR, but there are no other half MGR half bloodborne images that i have, so i posted that one.
Jayden Anderson
I think Demon's Souls and Dark Souls were just lightning in a bottle.
They came at the perfect time. People wanted something more hardcore, and less handholdy in an industry that's been pushing forward to making things easy and cinematic.
But when 2 of the 5 games (bloodborne is great gameplay wise, lacking in story, and lacking in great level design) are amazing, and the other 2 are just fucking worse than Dark Souls then I don't think they've got what it takes.
They've always been rough around the edges, and they've clearly done nothing to improve on it.
Dominic Cox
No you need to make it in super future where AI singularity has happened and transcended biological beings.
You would be just some entitity created on the initial abandoned world and would be connected to servers which would act as bonfires and you upload yourself into them and reboot when you die.
Also needs to include Mechs that can be destroyed so if there is a particulary hard boss that is too big to fight with yourself you would have to manage if you destroyed your mech for the section of the game or have to find a frame and try and build another one.
Whatever the deal From makes and Armored Core soulslike game would be great.
Asher Sanchez
Kinda want it to be like "I have no mouth and I must Scream" but maybe that's just because I love that story
Grayson Parker
You kidding? Bloodborne by far had the best story out of any of the games. Also had some of the level designs like the astral clock tower.
Elijah Cruz
The part where you said you didn't know what Armored Core was and then typed out brb as if you were actually talking to someone when you were just typing a post only you could see, not engaging in real time conversation.
Also, assuming you started this thread, the idea that Souls doesn't need to change its formula and just needs to change its setting is literally cancer. Oh wow the exact same game but with robots and the same concepts too but robots so it's automatically not trash.
DaS3 was a shit game and 2 was pretty bad. Bloodborne was saved due to an entire change in atmosphere and context, but mainly it was saved by having different combat. This won't work forever and asking for it to be milked to death is like actively pissing on a franchise you claim to like.
Connor Baker
>opinions: the post
You're right that demons souls and DS1 are lightning in a bottle, but i think that Bloodborne is the best in the series. >lacking in story it has just as good of a story as the other souls games >lacking great level design semi-agreed. I think that DS1 will forever hold the title of GOAT level design, but in my opinion BB is in second place easily.
What if the world was destroyed to create YOUR character? like, humanity wanted to create the perfect AI, but in doing so fucked up big time, and your character has to chose how to shape the world based on this knowledge? >also armored core could be a huge inspiration agreed.
Jordan Perez
I already admitted to being a little high, so i didnt think to delete that first part. But i honestly didnt know what armored core was. I agree though that innovation needs to happen. Thats what this thread is for - discussion.
What innovations do you suggest should be made that haven't already been said?
>DaS3 was a shit game i disagree.
Oliver Bennett
GOAT level design by far
Angel Butler
No post apocalyptic stories are lame every souls game has that.
With Armored Souls we need to have it so that AI left the planet what remains are just partially shut down shit and stuff running on the remaining power and you just wake up to a world left behind by now godlike beings. What you would find would just be rampant obsolete AI and older machines.
You could even have it a twist where you think that the world was destroyed but merely was just left behind by those beings.
Sebastian Bell
what if you go back to see for yourself what it became then you have to fight the overgrown wildlife of shit on earth eons after humans have died off
Kevin Stewart
I gotta profess my love for Fromsoft games art design. They undoubtedly make some of the best looking games ever made.
Oliver Barnes
Sci fi Souls is a shitty cop out as far as innovation goes. Bloodborne would have felt the same if it wasn't for different combat.
So in my opinion the innovation has to lie in the gameplay and honestly Nioh is the game handling that best right now. The stance mechanic keeps weapons from growing stale and keeping combos varied while the ki pulse mechanic makes stamina management even more important as well as engaging, all adding up to potentially very fast gameplay.
I think as other anons have said FROM should stick to rejuvenating one of their other franchises or making a new IP all together which I hope they're doing, considering how downhill Dark Souls has gone.
You're entitled to your opinion, but 3 really is stale and boring shit. The first game in the "Soulsborne" series that I beat and didn't care to touch again, haven't even bought it and don't plan on it.
Camden Cook
i would simultaneously love and hate this. like, fuck. just knowing i'm not the original would piss me off.
i'd have to git gud enough to NEVER die.
Oliver Gomez
you aren't the original but you are the final the perfect one. There has to be some solace in that user :)
Cooper Green
I love both of these ideas We'll just have to wait and see what From decides to do It would piss you off more and more throughout the game as your "clone number" keeps rising lol
Brody Perry
Yeah that would be cool, starting out on what appears to be a machine world and stumbling upon verdant overgrowth and weird shit would be cool as frick.
Yeah great art design as well as music, the music from the games are ridiculous.
Nicholas Powell
Dark souls 1 world design, with bigger levels. Make a new lore and make magic great again. Add ice magic and ice scaling with int. Armor and diversity like souls 2
Hunter Thompson
no, i meant being a new clone with subsequent deaths. starting off as a clone is fine.
>It would piss you off more and more throughout the game as your "clone number" keeps rising lol
exactly.
Ryan Young
I am loving the ideas in this thread! Such smart and creative people XD!!
Camden Perry
fuck off, you arent welcome here
Ian Hall
I didn't that Japan with there ugly ass fem-male Final Fantasy cast could ever out do the the west in making gorgeous western looking game.
Asher Lopez
never change Sup Forums
Blake Nelson
Egypt Souls
>You start your game creating your character in standard Souls-form. >You start the game properly and surprise you're just an spooky skeleton/badly formed mummy >You like others just wake up after a million years of death in the capital of your kingdom >Theres some magic that is forcing those who didn't go through good mummification rites into servitude by the mad king. >Your objective is to collect enough shit to stop the king. >Collect Organs, Bodyparts, Clothing to become more and more human >Enemies varies from the more machinelike skeletons that have lost complete control of their soul and golems to completely sentient mummies and even full-humans the strongest of the enemies >After you die you rise again, but it's not a quick process. After you die two times, a season pass and the weather changes. It can vary to a gentle breeze, endless night, a violent rain and a sandstorm. The level design continues the same but there are some passive changes that affect the magic and combat in the game.
or something
Eli Anderson
i wouldn't mind if ranged future weapons played a larger part. if the speed was comparable to bloodborne and the projectiles were a bit faster, but still dodgeable, and their primary purpose was actually to do damage i think it'd be interesting. like smoothly clearing waves of enemies in hyperlight drifter, switching between blade and pistol.
it'd probably make pvp a shitshow, though.
David Watson
ohhhhh I see what you're saying that is sorta a bummer OOOOOHH what if it counted what clone you were and tracked your deaths, and a glados esque machine scolded you every time you came back. Although idk if that fits the souls dark theme to well
Jayden Peterson
strengthfags will get so butthurt there's no bigmclargehuge greatswords/hammers
Robert Reyes
pretty neat maybe you could fight the gods so then theres some less humanoid enemies too or shit fight the hippos and gators in the Nile
Jason Rogers
What's wrong user??! Did I say something wrong? Also I didn't know permission was needed to post in certain threads, who do I talk to about it??!! Please user I don't wanna get banned holy frick
Jose Rivera
You could make them overheat and break and need for quick jurryrig repair during battle.
David Hernandez
they could make it depressing as fuck. the AI bluntly reminding you of the futility of your actions as you crawl out of tubs of amniotic fluid. after all, 500 versions of you with more experience in this world have already tried and failed.
Carson Phillips
Lol yes gladoa and portal!! Lol I love it, maybe G-man can make an appearance too?? That would be so cool!
Michael Bailey
oh yeah I like that better fuck the wittiness
Nicholas Morales
That sounds like just a good version of prince of persia to me, not very souls like to be fair, pvp has always been a shitshow glados like machine scolding you would be over the top. but.... what if..... there WAS???? >And each time you leeled up strength your character model actually got more buff adding in mid-battle nanobot repairs would be cool, kind of like a cooldown system on when you could use certain weapons and you'd have to time things just right to pull off a wombo combo and not be fucked afterwords waiting on repairs, i really like this idea, its innovative as fuck no need to feed the troll i already fed the troll
Justin Carter
>ctrl-f "Metal Wolf Chaos" >0 results
From could do wonders with a sequel with the experience they've gotten now.
Jacob Gonzalez
>fromsoft dream game Remastered bloodborne, 60 fps, shitty hunter fights like the cainhurst crow replaced with something enjoyable, revamped moon presence, maybe some new bosses and weapons. It would be great
Leo Carter
You go through the entire Tomb King army list
Dominic Sanders
Wait a second
I'm having some weird deja vu here. Is this one big elaborate troll thread? Fuck this is weird.
Jace Sanchez
>That sounds like just a good version of prince of persia to me, not very souls like
Combat it's like Souls but you collect body parts alongside armour.
Jack Adams
Problem with that is you can't relive the shock and awe of playing it the first time.
It would be just like any other souls game, you would know there were ayy lmao and would be good but not great.
What would be a good game you could make another twist off of that hasn't been done to death?
Ian Smith
would be neat
William Morris
>And each time you leeled up strength your character model actually got more buff
The game could go full GitS, showing your cyberized body's musculature swelling underneath your skin in proportion to the exertion of lifting a weapon bigger than yourself.
Kayden Gutierrez
Why not do cyber horror in which we awake from status to find a ruined city where cybernetic enhancement has gone overboard? Resources have dried up, people literally tear each other apart for fuel and parts, etc
Zachary James
RIP Tomb Kings
Brayden Wright
>fuse it with metal gear >not drawing from armored core I get that it's mecha, but From already has experience with technology-centric world building.
Christopher Turner
no, not a troll thread. it's a unique idea, i'll give it that. This a million times over. My first playthrough of any fromsoft game has always been a strength build
Wyatt White
sadly i didnt know of metal core until someone pointed out it's existence in the thread- but it looks cool as fuck though
Landon Evans
I don't think they could do a cooler theme, I'd just want more bloodborne, but that's just because I have a thing for anything victorian and ayys
Aiden Ramirez
2bh I just want BLAME!Borne
Leo Bailey
BLAME! is finished and short while Berserk is long as fuck and on yet another hiatus. Start with BLAME!.
William Thomas
they lived a good life user its okay :^)
Owen Butler
>ctrl+F "Let it Die" >0 of 0 It's distopia souls by Suda51's company and also free, should be out soon
Carson Morris
Aztec Souls.
Something like being a tribesman from small village, searching for the long lost aztec city where the 7 Aztec Tribes live. You find it and everyone there is crazy. Fight to discover what happened in the city between the 7 aztec gods. Halfway through the game either the Spanish attack or the Aztec Gods descends from the heaven to wage apocalypse. Brandish angrily a Macuahuitl, Rip people's heart from their bodies and maybe partake in some healthy anthropophagy.
Or something
At least we will have them in Total War
Ryan Nguyen
Some one help me out here >bought old hunters >don't really want to go through new game plus to just play it >have a backed up save from when before I beat the game. What should I do? The thing that scares me in NG+ is that I won't be able to upgrade my hunters axe anymore....
David Green
It's a suda51 game.
That's generally all style and very little substance
Daniel Bell
>At least we will have them in Total War OH SHIT REAL? God the reasons to buy that game just keep growing I gotta buy it one of these days already
Ryan Collins
Rather than set it in the real world, I'd rather have an Aztec inspired fantasy world and the gods should be ayyy lmaos like in Bloodborne.
Brayden Flores
Dont know wat you're talking about, literally cant decipher your English. Please elaborate. We need more ancient-indian-tribe based good games. >git gud lmao but just stay cool and grind your way there, strap on those running shoes and sprint past everything.
Jordan Harris
just start new that's what I do for every from DLC so I get the whole experience they intended and go in at proper level
Daniel Russell
He's only in an executive position for this one, besides Killer is Dead was great. Also the game has been demo'd enough for me to feel comfortable
Grayson Rogers
I mean it's not confirmed yet but they said that by the end of the Total War Warhammer game they want to have every main faction and the TK is one of them
Ayy lmao can't just be the answer for everything. Cthulhu shit fits more the victorian england look of Bloodborne than Aztecs. Also repeating the twist in a another game that in theory should also be focused on Blood is kinda lazy. I'm all for dropping the historical element of it though or at least set in alt-history. In my mind it would be like "7 Tribes unite and manage to kill the spanish, but end up in infighting and killing each other" so you can find some "covenants" that were remnants that fought alongside the Invaders and whatnot, so you can have rare europeans weapons and armour for anyone that wants to cosplay as a Conquistador
Adrian Ramirez
I guess. To be honest when i saw it back in E3 i didn't made the Dark Souls connection at all. Also not a fan of all those executions. Nioh has it right in making those like half-second long
But hey it's free so it doesn't hurt try
Samuel Thompson
>Post apoycaptic hellhole where the remaining resources of the world are scrambled after by the remaining vestiges of society, most weapons are pulled together scraps from the world that was left behind, charismatic and insane madmen tear through the ruins of the old world and either vy for power, scientific growth, or other more sinister ambitions
Honestly, if you replace the Covenants with Corporations, the Gods with Father/The Foundation, Chosen Undead with Lone Mercenary, everything just lines up. The Souls series has always been a Fantasy Armored Core, but ACV/VD and Dark Souls 3+Ariandel are too close for anybody to really deny they are similar. Armored Core 6 is just Dark Souls 4.
