Is there any feeling better than pulling off a perfect cav charge into exposed archers, or the flank of a shit unit?
I'm struggling to think of one.

Is there any feeling better than pulling off a perfect cav charge into exposed archers, or the flank of a shit unit?
I'm struggling to think of one.
>Total War Thread
>Braced spearmen
>your knights demolish them anyway
>use stack of horse archers on skirmish
>win without pressing a key
Just fuck my shit up senpai.
Best TW game.
Yea, the feeling of being the Roman Empire and reclaiming all your lost provinces
>Have to beat the Turks
>Have to take out the Muslims
>Have to waltz into Germany, France England, Spain and Italy
Talk about a struggle.
My brother
Fucking Stainless Steel man. I know throwing Militia Spearmen at Knights was still cost effective, but god damn.
>mfw scholarioi cataphracts
It's up there, but having an enemy force march into a killing field is better still.
>Have false line at the end of a path through forest
>Noob player charges down, thinking he's going to clean up my exposed cavalry and artillery
>As soon as he's committed, my hidden guns shred his cavalry charge with grape shot
>My remaining rifles and cavalry flanks his marching lines, entangles them long enough to have my line forces ruin his day
Whats the crack status on TW warhammer?
There is no better feeling in the world.
>decide to play Medieval 2 again because my computer was too shitty to run it when I actually bought it years ago and people always jerk it off
>get stainless steel because t's apparently the best mod
>play Scotland
>declare war on England after building up an army of spear militias since that's all I can train apparently
>siege York
>next turn I get a message from the pope saying he'll excommunicate me if I attack the English for 7 turns
>I wait
>5 turns later an English army attacks my siege force because naturally this shit doesn't apply to the AI
>I win, and 3 turns later take York
>make a peace deal because my army is hurting
>a turn later the english break it and attack me
>I fend them off and go to siege their next settlement
>get another message from the pope saying I'm not allowed to attack them for 7 turns
>quit game
I think I'll wait until the "casualized" Medieval 3 comes out.
>Tfw you charge an enemy cav unit head on and breakthrough before they can close on your flanks with spearmen
Diplomacy is one of the things that has unquestionably gotten better with each new game. Well, except for the removal of province gifting, still irks me that I can't use it to simulate territorial losses and gains in peace deals.
...
People actually play the Total War games with guns in them?
>caring what the pope thinks
first thing i always do is go on the first crusade and use the infinite sailing glitch to land an army next to rome and fuck that fucker right back off to avignon in frogland.
Empire is my second favorite after Barbarian Invasion
>Why would anyone use mounted javs when horse archers are available?
>mfw that armor-piercing
It just melts through general's bodyguards and they can't do a damn thing
Archers have range but are the worst for damage and AP
>being the Roman Empire and reclaiming all your lost provinces
Fucking Italian little shits
>Legionaries waiting for the enemy to charge at them while they're on fire at will
>mfw what happens
>
>
>
I love the feeling of command Empire and Napoleon bring (I like the scope of Empire more, though)
Arranging your line and then slowly adjusting your flanks inward until you have the enemy center caught inside of a U is always so satisfying.
Don't worry user Empire is fun even if it is pretty trash
/his/ memes are fun
only thing i hate about total war, especially empire because of the supposed scale is the lack of cities.
You capture Paris and all of france is yours. wtf. what about Avignon? Marsielle? Poitou? Angers? Toures? Caen?
You pretty much capture 1 or 2 settlements and it's game over, and there is no fighting or anything in between them, it only takes a turn to go from city to city.
Medieval II is the second best total war, just after Empire.
also
>Get Rome II emperor so it's not buggy as hell
>Decide to play Carthage
>Get hype for Hannibal's sweet revenge
>First 20 turns are hard as hell
>Only 2 types of infantry
>Everyone hates my culture
>Provinces that should be mine are fucking Carthaginian vassals
>Pissed of Greek provinces are constantly revolting
>Finally manage to sack Rome and stabilize
>Now I'm the only power, conquering the rest of the Mediterranean is a breeze
>Control all of Europe but still have a massive hole in my empire because nearly all of north Africa is controlled by my fucking vassals
>MFW
What the fuck creative assembly, the Carthaginians are basically what the game encourages you to do if you're not going Roman, and this was one of the worst campaigns I've played in a total war game
wHat
>Decide to play Carthage
>when you can recruit Oathsworn
medieval was good, but empire, napoleon and the newer ones not so much
It's about the era. And it is very solid, no matter what gripes people have. Certainly the best management system of the lot (assuming WH is the same as Rome/Attila).
Line combat is also way deeper than people give it credit for.
>play napoleon online
>everyone just goes skirms infront, line inf then dragoons in back.
>they shoot over eachother heads but get some friendly fire
>use actual tactics with reserves to plug gaps and follow up charges
>bring curassiers instead of shitty dragoons
>fuck those chassuers a' cheval and revolutionary guard right back to paris with my galloper guns
Exactly. Nothing makes me feel more imperious than trouncing eejits online when they try to cheese tactics they don't understand, vs actual tactics of the era.
Goddamn that map is making me nostalgic for Medieval 2, I don't have time to be fucking playing a total war game but I'm so close to reinstalling right now.
Tell me more, I've half the idea to go online in a couple days after I finish all these goddamn term projects and homeworks I've procrastinated
Dragoons are good to harry with. But the amount of morons i've seen using them for charges is astounding. Like, how are they not seeing the way shit works?
Rank the total wars for me and their DLC's
Probably my favourite TW is Fall of the Samurai (DLC from Shogun 2), idk why but the artillery is so fucking satisfying. Empires Arty was so inaccurate iirc
Rome 2 where everything is enclosed in the city is great, no more 1 stacks raiding my fucking farms and bailing into woodland. The rest was pretty shit though, and naval battles in Rome 2 were the worst thing about the whole series imo
>Buy Stronghold HD on sale for like $3 because nostalgia
>Stronghold HD has great castle building but the shitty combat made me wish I was playing Medieval 2
>Medieval 2's combat is great but the shitty campaign map made me wish I was playing CK2
>CK2's campaign is amazing but the shitty combat and everything being relegated to a map screen really just made me want to run fight in Medieval battles like in Mount and Blade
>Mount and Blade's is great and I finally felt like I was on the field but the city building was so shit it made me want to play Stronghold again
That's an uncomfortable cycle that I know far too well
Naval battles in Rome/Attila are meh, but landings are fantastic. One of my favourite recordings is from a landing where i was horribly outnumbered, but stymied their D-day. Of course, i had the mod to make deployables actually useful which was quite crucial.
>Empires Arty was so inaccurate iirc
You mean historically inaccurate? Or just that it wasn't a sniper, because that was some of the fun. Made it even more satisfying when you manage to ventilate a general at range. And it makes up for it with the grape shot.
Attila > Medieval 2 = Rome 1 > Shogun 2 > Napolean = Empire > Rome 2 > Warhammer
Giant meatgrinder sieges are always a hoot.
I love how snappy Rome 1 is, units really get up and go. Medieval 2 it always feels like everyone covered in magnets.
Will we ever get a better expansion than Kingdoms?
every game since medieval 2 has been a step back
Attila is great.
Best combat in the series.
Mainly because of ass engine that crippled Empire and Napoleon, albeit latter was an improvement. Shogun 2 sidestepped the issue because it was about MUH DUELS in melee. Rome 2 was when cancer came back and showed melee just doesn't work any more. Ever since it's been "we gotta distract the players from awful engagement mechanics with something".
>Demigryph Knights into orc Arrer Boyz from behind
All else is pointless in this life.
>Napoleon that low
The Italian campaign is easily one of the most satisfactory TW experiences I've ever had. There's no better feeling than rolling back reactionary scum with an army of barefooted militia.
as varied and content packed? no, not really. rome 2's campaign dlc is pretty decent, but way overpriced when you put them together compared to kingdoms.
Thanks for reminding me that they made a new Total War and it's about some autistic fantasy shit.
Isn't there a mod that completely converts Total War: Attila basically to European shenanigans?
Man, I thought last two games were nickel and diming the players but holy shit did they take it to another level with Warhammer. Then again they partnered with Games Workshop so I don't know why I'm surprised. It's also the kind of franchise where players WANT to pay to get their favorite armies.
>autistic fantasy shit
>muh historical accuracy!
Total Warhammer has sold better than Attila despite Attila being out for waaay longer. Historical Total War games are a dying meme.
Can we get a good fantasy setting next time at least?
yeah you got warhammer :^)
Thanks for affirming that you never played the good Total War games. I recommend it though, they're great.
>Warhammer
I said good fantasy.
>FOUR playable races
If I'm going to buy a fantasy RTS I want the variety that makes fantasy interesting.
Bretonnians and Tomb Lords when?
Soon (TM)
>Is there any feeling better than pulling off a perfect cav charge into exposed archers
Yes, doing it to high tier spearmen, and completely crushing them with a second charge from the opposite direction after they turn to face the first.
Your TW-fu is very basic, grasshopper.
keep challenging yourself, or you wont reach very far.
Muh nigger,
Empire>napoleon
Literally the only thing Empire has over Napoleon is scale.
Remind me of my France and Milan playthroughs
>be France
>be an ass and hog lands from neighbors
>everybody else decided to be good Samaritan and suck pope's dick
>be Milan
>be pacific as fuck
>only start war when pope calls crusader and never touch other Christians
>half of Christian factions decided to be a an ass to each other.
>France had it worst and was violated from all sides.
M2 is fun but It was also a shit show at times
Any love for Shogun 2? I got it a while ago, but never got around to actually playing it. I am feeling the TW itch. Is ist a good entry? Or should I just reinstall Rome I?
The lack of shields is strange and gets to me.
Archers are crazy powerful in Shogun as a result.
FUCK. I wish they would announce Medieval III, I love this time period.
On another note, how can you people even play Medieval II? Call me a scrub or whatever, but I've tried to play that game several times but I just can't get it to work.
>Always lose money every turn for some reason
>Dunno what the fuck to upgrade in my cities
>Dunno how any advisor work
>Dunno what units I should pick
>Units are glued to one another during combat, making impossible to disengage.
I need advice Sup Forums bros, I really want to enjoy this game.
Only some units can be garrisoned, usually the rule of thumb is if a unit is the cheap alternative to a better unit it can be Garrisoned.
Garrisoned units cost no upkeep and that's essential to having both a military and staying in the black. You know a unit is garrisoned if it's unit card in the city is blue, it's grey then you're paying for it every turn. You should only keep a very small number of non-garrisoned troops, if the majority of your army isn't garrisoned you're doing it wrong.
It's usually best to have only 1 or 2 castles, turn everything else into a city and ignore all the unit creation and upgrading building for the majority of them because they all cost upkeep, just build roads, walls, mine, farms and shit the crap that makes you more money and isn't important for building new troops. Building jousting list and ballista makers at every settlement is great way to waste all your fucking money.
Your castles will be where you build the vast majority of the units build all the upgrades on these, and you should be recruiting and retraining units at them every turn. You might also want to fully upgrade one city, your capital is a good idea and build all the shit there, some units can only come from cities.
Anyway your main army should be where you funnel all your best units that won't garrison while all your settlements house your shitty garrisoned units for free if they're not garrisoned disband them or move them somewhere they can be garrisoned.
Thank you, will try this right now and see what happens.
Shogun 2 is great, but the AI is super passive and will hill camp like a little bitch. Most overhaul mods fix it though, as well as make battles longer and give more unit variety, which are the major gripes most people have with the game.
there's a building browser in game. You can check what you can build later in the city. To get more buildings / upgrades, you need to grow the city. Building units reduces population (or that's how at least I remember it, more soldiers -> less population makes sense). Towns are for economy while castles are for military.
...
Which one is this?
I feel like playing a total war.
A frontal charge with your cav against spears and still win ala LOTR.
Rome 2.
It is, indeed, what is greatest in life, so long as you also get to hear the lamentations of their women.
I've only played Medieval II, what are some other good Total War games?
Attila
Shogun 2
Rome 1
I like attila, rome 1 and medieval 1,2 (though a bit dated) i have not played the others. i recomend attila its my fav game right now.
Are Shogun 1 and Medieval 1 still worth playing?
>tfw you have a unit of level 9 cataphracts with gold sword and shield that stuck around for half of my campaign
>>Is there any feeling better than...
>rush large onagers for no real reason
>neighbor is converting to latin christianity and it is affecting my provinces.
>want to war him anyways but his defensive ally is my other neighbor
>fuck it they are at war with someone else lets capture their forts
>suddenly 4 armies out of fucking nowhere come at my newly captured territory - a town on a very large hill
>its my 1600 troops vs 8000
>i have 5 groups of large onagers, 3 groups of archers, 2 cavalry, rest infantry.
>set onagers to explosive rounds, lets see what these babies can do.
>maybe i can damage their armies enough my other armies can come in and finish the job
>enemies troops exploding and panicking trying to rush up the hill
>cavalry/axemen rushing in for pincer attacks for the purpose of shattering the moral of enemies who make it through the explosions
>heroic victory
Not really.
Only as a curiosity
Cav charges in Warhammer also feel great. Extremely weighty. I feel like the combat in Warhammer feels very similar to Rome 1 and Medieval 2(more so Rome 1 as there are barely any kill animations).
I have only played rome 1
I loved it
that was years ago
which total war next?
Yeah, abusing enemy AI to make them run into your Spartan Hoplites deathchoke
>400 enemies slain by one unit
yes
The OP obviously.
M2 is Rome: The Pope edition
its a very simple game and as such is a great entry point, kinda boring though
What makes Attila so great?
I thought it was just more Rome 2 which sucked.
So I just got Attila and something feels wrong compared to previous games. I just can't get into it.
wew.
when did you start cyclecharging?
>
>
>
>its a /his/ meme
Literally the best memes of /his/ aside from zhukovposting come from the holy trinity of /gsg/ /twg/ and /mbg/
>engine
>its another faggot from TWCenter who watched reynold sanity's videos about why total war failed.
There are tables for unit masses and units do push each other back in attila and warhammer. There is a reason why no one spaghettis in MP anymore.
>med 2
>good
the game was bugged as fuck
The only good thing about it was that you could edit maps.
>What makes Attila so great?
the best AI in the franchise it's still shit, but less shit then usual
the best and most involved family tree and inner politics
I like the combat, the assets, even some of the dlc is great
still if you hate the later titles, you wont like Attila
im going in to reclaim ROMA
THIS LAND IS ROMAN
