ss4
when
Q4 2017, soon followed by Talos 2.
...
As a matter of fact, I am.
I hope you have already played SERIOUS SAM: THE TEXT ENCOUNTER !
Is this from the DLC?
Haven't played it yet. Liked Talos, is this good too?
Yes, and YES.
Yes, and yes, it's fucking awesome.
Hard as balls too at times; they really cranked up the puzzle and map design.
what the fuck, this looks gorgeous.
Added to wishlist ,thanks
its croatian magic
lol where's that from?
>what the fuck, this looks gorgeous.
It's a gorgeous game. And I'm not even able to max out any of the settings, merely combine med-high ones.
Talos Principle's only story-DLC, Road To Gehenna.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
b
aaAAAAA yourself.
Seriously underrated game. It's release date couldn't have been worse (Nov 2011), as it had to then compete with big titles like Skyrim and BF3.
IMO, it did everything Doom4 wanted to do, but way better.
>Seriously underrated game.
stupid unintentional puns work too well at times
I beat First Encounter HD and BFE on medium. Working through both BFE and 2nd Encounter on hard but goddamn am I now noticing all the shit with BFE.
>minor arachnoids in open fucking areas
>hitscan soldiers existing for more than one level
>scrapjacks having a billion health
>technopolyps
>cave demons slowing the pace of the game to a crawl
>FUCKING TECHNOPOLYPS
Don't worry, the game deliberately starts as a parody of modern military shooters.
Wait until you kill the helicopter boss, then it becomes true Serious Sam.
>people still bitching about "hitscan" enemies
Those things you can literally kill with your bare hands, and they cause like 1 point of damage per hit even on Hard, and are easy to dodge too.
Who the fuck has problems with Scrapjacks?? Couple rockets in, and they stagger. Piss easy to just spam your AR or Minigun to their face from the distance as well.
Just ignore the space monkeys. They're dumb as fuck. Alternatively, destroy the pillars they climb, so they got no places to hide.
Thechnolollipops only appear in like... two maps tops.
tl;dr: sounds like you've not even gotten through the first fifth of the game, which many people seem to dislike. I personally don't get why; I had fun time blowing shit up and looking for those few hundred secrets / level.
>Wait until you kill the helicopter boss, then it becomes true Serious Sam.
Bitch i'm at the last level before Ugh-Zan, the one real long canyon. Those fuckers are all still annoying and way too common. Also the Dark Witches should not just take one damage from the minigun.
I'm fine with the theming they were going for with the war quickly disolving from a traditional military fight into having to dodge fucking rocket mechs and hordes of actual undead but the hitscan soldiers should not be present at super long ranges when rockets are throwing dust up everywhere.
I'd be fine with green reptiloids coming back instead of them.
I've seen some literal females play this game for the first time and not complain that much.
Jesus, do you cry about Zombieguys in Doom as well?
ok, so let me see if I can understand this difficulty thing for FE and SE
Tourist: 50% less damage taken + 2x damage dealt + health regen + 2x ammo + less enemies + 200 starting health (300 max)
Easy: same as above - health regen - 1x damage dealt
Normal: the way it's meant to be
Hard: 50% more damage taken + more enemies
Serious: 2x damage taken + MORE enemies + 2x ammo
Mental:____________________
I've been able to beat FE on Serious but can't do any better than Hard in SE. not yet anyway
Any tips on getting better other than gitting gud?
Don't forget witch brides
Nothing like being attacked out of nowhere and being unable to aim at the things fucking you up
Zombies make sense in doom because its more about quick reactions when navigating closed in mazes. You will always have a place to duck back into in Doom. When I'm having to rapidly vacate the area due to mechanoid fire and kleers taking 4 damage just for having the gaul to move is annoying. I'm fine with the arachnoid majors doing this because they're big, easy to see, and telegraph their shit. Soldiers are easy to miss in a fight, always coming out behind some building to get off 3 damage before i notice them. I never feel like I deserved to get hit with them like I do with headless rocketeers and that was something I loved about 1st encounter, rarely did I feel like getting hit was purely because of the game's bullshit and not just my own lack of skill.
You mean artificial difficulty: the game?
I stopped playing this shit because I couldn't beat even the first level. Waaaay too many enemies spawn at the same time.
I try to outrun them to stop, aim and shoot but by the time I aim they are already too close to shoot so I have to move again, in the end I could never fucking shoot because I couldn't aim
>Soldiers are easy to miss in a fight, always coming out behind some building to get off 3 damage before i notice them
When the hell does this even happen, ever?
The gun-zombie things in SS3 have shit reach, need to close in on you to even start attacking, and signal their presence loudly.
>I never feel like I deserved to get hit
Why the hell do you even mind getting hit by one damage shot?
>I stopped playing this shit because I couldn't beat even the first level.
(You) :^)
weak bait attempt
YOU DON'T NEED IT!
YOU KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU PICK IT UP!
*picks it up*
>Why the hell do you even mind getting hit by one damage shot?
Because it happens 20 to 30 times over a fight when the bastards spawn behind me or pop out behind a wall that I cleared or just shoot through a dust cloud.
>When the hell does this even happen, ever?
Quite a bit. Most of the time when scrapjacks are present the undead M4s spawn too behind pillars, walls, and buildings to suck away your HP while you're dodging rockets.
>The gun-zombie things in SS3 have shit reach, need to close in on you to even start attacking, and signal their presence loudly.
No they do not. They're not too accurate at really long ranges but they will start shooting at you long before you could get in range to, say, shotgun them.
The things are fine in the first few levels when its close environments with lots of cover and no reason to actually leave it. They are not fine when kleers, rockets, and kamikazes begin coming in force. I can't think of a single time an arachnoid minor spawned in a large open area in 1st encounter and a couple of undead m4s are an equivalent threat.
>read NETRICSA entry on scrapjacks
>"they're not very tough, so be sure to deal with them quickly!"
Like they tweaked their health at the last minute.
Harder difficulties also add more traps, i.e.
>normal mode: walk into room, pick up health and ammo, leave room
>hard mode: walk into room, door closes behind you, Kleer spawns
I'd actually be fine with witch brides if they did one or the other. Not damage and levitation and fucked up aiming all at once while being difficult to kill with the minigun.
>They're not too accurate at really long ranges but they will start shooting at you long before you could get in range to, say, shotgun them.
I've fooled around with them a tons of times in maps like pic related, and always see them jogging towards me until they get to their assumed maximum attack distance.
>shotgunning them
use your pistol or AR at the distance, dummy.
>undead m4s are an equivalent threat.
bullshit. Their fire rate is pathetic TAK TAK TAK TAK, and actually dodge-able thanks to their tendency of "locking" down to your previous known position with each shot.
>More traps
Do you have an exact place where this happens? I've played through both FE and SE multiple times but I've never experienced that happening.
not calling bullshit, I'm actually interested
Of course I'm gonna pick it up!
>Like they tweaked their health at the last minute.
One C4 blows them up just nicely.
One c4 is also equivalent to multiple rockets and one shotting them with it requires you to get close enough to actually drop it on them.
Wat? You know you can hurl the c4 like a fucking olympian right?
Seldom a problem. They tend to spawn quite close to you anyway, like in the Dark Bride levels. If they happen to be further away, just spam bullets to their general direction, or use the Devastator.
Rarely when I hurl it at them does it actually stick for the extra damage. Most of the time it takes to of the things.
Still very disappointed Sam didn't gradually drop the CoD guns for magic Mental stuff which would be setting up for his SS1 arsenal.
>"no cover, all man"
>you need to constantly break line of sight with many enemies to minimize damage they deal to you or to get close to scrapjacks for c4
wew
Jewel of the Nile was a big step up from BFE mainly because technopolyps, witch brides and hitscan soldiers aren't in it at all.
Is it just me or was there a distinct lack of witch harpies in BFE?
i'm especially baffled at why they didn't drop the assault rifle for the thompson gun like that, seeing as one of the levels is literally a museum
would have been so easy to implement, setting-wise
I'm stuck on the last level of TFE. On medium
Anyone got any tips? I can just barely beat the red and blue robots, and then the kleers fuck me up
I'm still waiting to fight Mental. How many fucking more years do I have to wait for that Croteam?
im a serious dude
You mean that arena?
Hint: Ammo backpack respawns infinitely
Or, you know, you just kill your enemies faster + learn to shoot down enemy rockets.
There's enough of them, IMO.
The DLC did amp up their numbers, and re-introduced those green, homing-ball throwing giants too.
Sure I am
>re-introduced those green, homing-ball throwing giants too.
Goddamnit. I mean, it's great the classics are coming back and I was wondering why Khnums are there but not green reptiloids but they were the most annoying things in 1st encounter.
To begin stand in center, spam nades and/or rockets before they even come close
Hold strafe, use super shotty, try and strafe into the health/ammo
Laser gun also works wonders
They did amp up the number of other goodies you get as well, like finding Sniper Rifle, Laser-cannon and even motherfucking Jetpack much earlier + with more ammo.
>Sniper Rifle, Laser-cannon
I was so sad to find out they were secrets only in BFE.
even better reason to search the maps harder.
>tfw there's people who did NOT have almost the entire arsenal after first 2 maps
Why yes, as a matter of fact I am
man, Croteam has some of the best and most hilarious marketing campaigns + bro-est publishers around.
KRUNDLE BLIND
>tfw a rich fatass spells it out for other devs and publishers
Like a boss
That fucking logo is awesome, shame it was only used once
>tfw found him in Talos Principle
I cracked
>There's enough of them, IMO.
They appeared only in three areas: at the beginning and end of the fifth level and at the end of the lost temples of Nubia.
I get the feeling that they were either a late extra addition like the sniper rifle and laser or their appearances were severely cut down due to their rather dodgy hit and collision detection.
Is The Random Encounter any good?
it's alright.
pretty muchThere is however a bug with 64bit systems where it crashes during certain sound effects.
I personally got very annoyed at the reloading.
Next year, at least that's what Devolver wishes/says.
Has anyone played Serious Sam VR? It's one of the more fun VR games I've played
I found the AR to fit the game's setting way better. It was also gameplay-wise an improvement from the Tommy, as once you got the Minigun in TFE/TSE, you didn't really use Tommy any more.
The fact that the AR uses its own ammo and has pretty neat accuracy and stopping power helps it stand out on its own. I also actually learned to appreciate the reloading system on the lower-tier guns, as it added a hint of tactical layers to the fighting. Less S+M1, more choosing your tool and timing the use of it right.
I've beaten the first encounter on Normal right now my goal is trying to beat all the games on serious starting with Serious Sam 3 BFE.
That's a mod. I don't remember the wanted signs looking like that.
I'm sorry you had to find out this way, but Fork Parker isn't a real person
That's a real archeological museum in Cairo, though.
There's absolutely no reason to exhibit old firearms there.
No, it's not.
It's a secret alley, literally found in the first map
Did someone actually believe he was?
Downloading it right now
Is it fun?
Serious fun.
i daed
Well, I "wish" he was real.
best FPS games released in modern times.
if you're a newbie, might just as well start with the BFE. It's both a prequel story, and tries to give a slightly softer landing to the series.
Don't play below Hard difficulty, remember to set 3D Rendering Resolution to match your screen/ "Unlimited", and the Color Mode to "Vivid.
I have a confession to make.
First encounter is one of my favorite games of all time, even though I haven't completed it even at 40%, because it's the only game that's too hard and scary for me to play ever. I only ever sat behind my brother watching him play it. An year ago I got the HD remake in steam for free in a giveaway thread and I have no more than 1 hour played.
I'm sorry Sup Forums.
I've already played the other SS games but it was many years ago
>Color Mode to "Vivid"
And if that's not colorful enough for you then you can also open the console by pressing "~" (or whatever key is next to the "1" on your keyboard) and type in
gfx_fSaturation=*
with * being anything between -1 and 10.
Be warned: the in-game saturation slider basically only goes from -1 to 1 so everything above 5 is going to burn away your retinas.
I liked the original, but I couldn't get into the new one. Something about it didn't feel like Serious Sam to me, I don't know why.
I got all the SS games, but not played them yet. Do I bother playing through the originals, or should I simply play the revamped versions?
...
HD are fine.
thanks x
HDs are fine, and you could start with the BFE for the reasons mentioned earlier.
>the revamped versions
the HD of TFE and TSE? doesn't I don't think there's any real difference other than appearance. but yes do play them and don't just skip them. they're really great games.
Well, I don't know much about serious sam other than the stuff I've seen on videos and I thought the games looked good and since I wanted to play more FPS games since I never really did when I was growing up, I just got them all. I'm gonna play through them in order, but I just figured that there wasn't any point in playing the more dated versions if the only differences were in terms of graphics.
Why can't other games be this serious?
because most other modern devs do not take their job seriously.
SECRET BIOMECHANOID ACTOVATED
>My penis when opening the Options menus in a Croteam game
now THIS is how you make a game for Mustards!
>deliberately
They reused assets from their failed CoD clone and hoped nobody would notice.
