I really hate the classic grindy stat and turnbased combat style where you just choose an enemy and pick an attack taking turns where in the end there is no threshold you have to cross with skill and are sent back to try again when you don't have said skill as a player.
I do really like being able to create a character and try to beat a game in the way i choose to a certain extent (what roleplaying should be synonymous for)
Good realtime combat would be nice but not necessary.
Skyrim sounds like your kind of rpg
Gothic. The choice is limited to combat and sides you choose, which doesn't affect the story much, but still, one of the best ARPGs I played and certainly my favourite.
>muh combat

I always wondered what's the origin of wojak's name. Does such a word even exist in english?
You should tell people about the UI, because it's attrocious.
Wow. An unfunny reddit meme.
Good job, retard.
op likes shity memes.
im going to give him shity memes.
>wojak
Sounds Polish.
There are no perfect games and shitty UI is not relevant in a game which had an atmosphere and world which only about two or three other games' worlds and atmosphere can even compare to.
It's polish, roughly translates to fighter/soldier.
>post dump pick cause to lazy to find actual rpg related pick
>reddit fag gets butthurt and fills thread with bad memes
Kek
I'm just waiting for the Underrail expansion now. I knida want to play it again right now but I'm afraid of burning myself out, I already have like 400+ hours into it.
Definetly the best recent cRPG.
>>post dump pick cause to lazy to find actual rpg related pick
It's ok, shitposters are actually helpful for making RPG threads going.
play some ultima.
apparently I have underrail in my library, don't even remember buying it
Any tips for someone going into the game for the first time?
it's russian
1/3
Everyone play .hack//G.u, that is all.
2/3
...
3/3
Also don' feel bad if you got your ass handed to you in Depot A, it's the casual filter of the game.
ultima 1 is fucking weird. but 4,5,6,7 are fucking great.
I am a huge RPG lover and truth is: there is no RPG right now that covers every aspect of a good RPG game.
There are the really old RPGs like Baldurs Gate but the graphics and combat systems are so outdated that most people won't find joy in playing them nowadays.
Then there are the semi old RPGs like Gothic and Morrowind. They can be fun but most of the time they will still feel not very good. (be it because of stiff/weird gameplay like in Morrowind where the devs tried to merge two concepts of battle systems or just overall lack of options) I think the only people that are still enjoying those older games are nostalgia fags because lets face it: faces that look like 3 big slightly different coloured pixels are not really good for the atmosphere of the game.
Then there are the newer games like Skyrim and Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning that are mostly on todays graphical standards but you can feel that those games are mostly designed to look pretty. Combat is pretty good or at least okay-ish but the real deal breaker for me are the role playing elements. You can't really role play in the newer games because it mostly doesn't matter what you do or say. There are 2-3 options for conversation and most NPCs will react the same way anyway regardless of what you do.
Your best bet is Skyrim with mods. Dive into the modding community and shape your game like you want it to be.
Now is a good time to start with it because of the release of Skyrim Special Edition.
Hope my experience helps.
well someone was certainly prepared
thanks user
I would buy this if it was a full game
give me recommendations on RPGS with
>lots of character customisation
>you don't have to babysit the party (if any)
>fun combat
>good graphics is a big plus but not mandatory
Might and Magic bros ww@? Currently rolling KCSS in MM7.
meme dev here. im fucking embarrassed by it. its not coming out,
>>lots of character customisation
By that you mean character appearance or different builds?
Op here
This shit looks great as fuck i think im gonna go get it thanks user
I really want a game with skill trees.
However it needs to not be like diablo, torchlight, path of exile etc etc.
Any recommendations? Even things similar to skill trees would do fine.
faggot________________
Anyone tried Dungeon Rats? How is it?
Ragnarok Online.
builds, a good example would be neverwinter night
Skyrim. Get the Ordinator mod.
>I am a huge RPG lover and truth is: there is no RPG right now that covers every aspect of a good RPG game.
You're not an RPG lover, sorry to break it to you.
Well, it's what you owuld imagine it to be- it's party-based AoD with nothing but combat. I like it.
Jagged Alliance 2
Wizardry 8
Might and Magic 6 and 7 (combat is really simple but strangely satisfying)
But, how is the Combat? Didn't play AoD.
No MMOs
I've played Skyrim to death, idc about specific mods, I want a new game to experience.
I was considering maybe Borderlands? I really don't know. Seems like skill trees would cover so many games, but it really doesn't.
>that combo ability
so you can be kenshiro?
I wanna YATATATATATATA people to death
i only play text based adventure games on my canclulator. here are some recommendations
Superhero V.1
Pirate V2.2
Fantasy V4.1
I hope this helps!
Romancing Saga Menstrual Song for Ps2
Then Underrail fits pretty well.
>lots of character customisation
Dozens of different builds and I mean it. Crossbowman with poisoned bolts and traps, mad chemist with chemical pistols that shoot blobs of acid/fire/cryoliquid, big guy with a sledgehammer, metal aromr with assault rifle, sneak sniper able to one shot everything, mind control, fireballs, psi monk, dickass thief cutting throats with a knife, grenadier, plama/laser pistols, it's all there.
>>you don't have to babysit the party (if any)
It's solo with no companions.
>>fun combat
Think Fallout 1/2 but harder, with way more builds/abilites/tactics and cooldowns.
>>good graphics is a big plus but not mandatory
It's pixelated but pretty if you ask me. Pic is from an upcoming expansion but the main game has pretty much the same quality.
Have fun.
>I wanna YATATATATATATA people to death
Yeah, you can do that. Actually one of the strongest enemies in the game just punches the shit out of you.
You can also make your punches harder with your mind, too.
Turn based, a lot like Fallout but set in Rome-like setting so bows, crossbows, swords, daggers, spears etc.
are there abilities or skills that you can use?
>You can also make your punches harder with your mind, too.
You mean cheap shots with 5 int? Not sure how I'll be distributing my points yet.
Haven't played borderlands until now? Then go play it. Great game.
If you want skill trees, try Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning or Dragons Dogma
Only aimed attack to the legs/arms/head/artery and utility items like nets, bolas, flasks of liquid fire, poisons etc.
hm ok thanks!
Nope, I mean this:
underrail.com
>While this ability is active, your unarmed and fist weapon attacks deal additional 8-17 mechanical damage, but at the cost of 5 psi points per attack.
Cheap shots are very good though.
>Not sure how I'll be distributing my points yet
Rule of a thumb is to look at all feats, decide which ones you would like to have and their requirements and spend the points accordingly. All leftover points should go into your primary stat, that would be DEX for unarmed, but they benefit from STR as well.
It's a strategy with rpg aspects, but try looking at Heroes of Might and magic. Numbers 3-5 are great and each has its own gimmick. But don't even try to touch 6 or. 7. Both are terrible.
Dude if you're talking about Carnifex, holy shit. Breezed through the arena fights with a lvl 13 stealth-melee-trap character and run straight into that magnificent wall of a man. The nets suck balls.
Also, are we experiencing a peak in Underrail-related conversation?
>Sup Forums said dragon age: origins was good
>it's fucking shit
Bravely Default and Bravely second are pretty good
>Breezed through the arena fights with a lvl 13 stealth-melee-trap character and run straight into that magnificent wall of a man. The nets suck balls.
Had a similiar experience when playing a sniper for the first time.
Pretty much all fights ened with me killing everyone in one shot. Carnifex on the other hand was killing me before I even got to shoot once.
>Also, are we experiencing a peak in Underrail-related conversation?
What do you mean?
Dunno, I clearly remember an Underrail thread couple of days ago and I have this vague feeling that I've seen more talk about it recently
>Huge RPG lover
>Skyrim with mods
>Also, are we experiencing a peak in Underrail-related conversation?
Definitely, we have the recent release of Tyranny to thank for this. Every thread for it goes something like:
> A: "Hey guys, how's Tyranny?"
> B: "Combat is boring"
> A: "What are some CRPGs with good combat?"
> B: "Underrail"
Also used in polish, although it's kinda archaic.
My recommendations anyone in this thread who want something off the beaten trail.
OFF: Strange, but good. Also free. Combat isn't exactly groundbreaking, nice music and good story tho.
LISA: So ridiculous and over-the-top, it's funny (pic related).
It also has to do with the fact that the expansion was announced not so long ago.
Shadow Hearts
I tried playing through the first one and got bored at the stupid maze part
>ok now split into two groups and run through these separate mazes that end up in the same spot
>alright now that both groups finished those mazes we're going to have to go through another maze
aaand closed the emulator
who the fuck thought that was fun
Any RPGs without leveling/exp grinding?
Really liked this in Megaman Battle Network/Star Force and started doing no leveling/growth runs in Mario & Luigi, Paper Mario, and Fire Emblem.
Can't say I'm too big on WRPGs in general, but I picked up Alpha Protocol on a whim not too long ago and had a great time. The multiple ways you can interact with the world and characters, the way the world/characters react to your interactions, the decisions you make having actual consequences. The whole game was just a blast. Even the gameplay wasnt too bad, not exceptional, but not the utter trash some reviewers were saying it was.
So can anyone recommend more games like it? Could be any setting really, as long as it's good. I've only ever played the more popular releases like Skyrim, Fallout 3, The Witcher 3 and a few of the Dragon Age games and they were alright I guess. But none of them made me feel invested, none of them made me feel like what I was doing, what I was saying, even down to what I was wearing mattered at all.
