It used to be kind of fun and sometimes even experimental where you could get stories or ideas you couldn't get virtually anywhere else. Nowadays it's almost exclusively weire dating sim and fetish wish fulfillment shit that's been co-opted as a marketing tool for other mediums like Light Novels and Video games. Coming from someone that was into anime for years it's dog shit for the most part now and you really aren't missing much not being interested in it because even I don't understand the appeal anymore.

Overrated as all fuck composer. He was fresh for maybe two soundtracks and then went to shit pretty much with this anime onward when he kept pairing up with the banshee. Now he just makes the same soundtrack every time and gets praised for existing like his other Sony shilled composer Kajiura

It just brought in the usual tired played out animu plot themes that have been done to death as opposed to the zany Trigger inspired beats that made it popular in the first place. As always Aniplex drowns a series in its own commercial bullshit rather than letting it breathe on its own. They're just a bad mix with trigger as Kiznaiver ultimately proved and should stick with Shaft like the one studio whose outlook and appeal actually mixes with theirs

If Platinum or CyberConnect2 made it, I could see it being at least decent.

IMO his KLK OST was shit and a harbinger of the vocal based ones to come. I have no idea why people love it so much as it just sounds awful mostly thanks to Kobayashi being such a shrill one dimensional singer. From a commercial standpoint I get it however as vocal albums sell more than standard OSTs which is what Sawano music more or less is now. Just really simplistic "Hype" notes and tones mixed with vocalists Sony is looking to plug arranged into an album of 15 or so tracks that is then slapped haphazardly onto some generic hype show like KLK or Kabeneri of The Iron Fortress. There's a reason it didn't work so well and got mixed reviews with his one foray into video games in Xenoblade Chronicles X as he's reliant on dumb blind anime fans and their lowest of standards to stay relevant and popular and hasn't had a soundtrack that has been seriously vetted in years. Its always just "The music is by Sawano so it's great 10/10" just like with Kajiura who between the two Sony doesn't even have to try anymore as long as they keep slapping their names on their terrible anime series

This show didn't but it's lead producers hostile takeover of the Japanese Animation industry inevitably drove me away from it and looking back it was a sign of all the terrible hype shows they roll that end up absolute garbage in the end to come. It can be Wit, it can be Trigger, it can be Shaft or even Madhouse but that Aniplex label virtually guarantees monstrously overhyped shit and wasted efforts for the sake of lining Sony Musics pockets. The anime industry and fanboys have basically been exploited to near creative bankruptcy since they stepped up their involvement on it in only a few short years

last work I had seen with sawano was aldnoah zero and only good thing about that anime was the OST which was above average at best

But KlK had a really good and varied ost unlike recycled stuff he made after. There are really good tunes in it most of em pumping as hell

he probably sucks now though. I heard his stuff on bunch of trailers and its mostly his trademark "screaming epic intro chorus" stuff
