So now that the survival game plague is abating, I'm left with a question.

Are there any games that strike a balance between going RPG stuff and decorating/building?

The Sims.

While I see how Sims could be seen as RPG, I wouldn't see it as such.

I mean stuff like talking to NPCs, fighting bad guys, etc

So like......Skyrim/Hearthfire?

Someone is going to say fallout 4

And I'm going to slap that guy

The Sims has talking to NPCs and fighting, you can in fact fight with any NPC!

Well, sort of, yes.

But you're very limited at what you can do in Hearthfire.

I'm thinking more like a game where you can dig out a canyon and build a house there, or set up a vast garden.

What I used to play a lot of was Minecraft, but it has barely any NPC interaction and no RPG stuff.

Don't think it exists user, at least not RPG wise.

How about Terraria or something like that? Or not what you're looking for?

You can't really have both, you need to pick between a reactive world or an interactive world. Doing both would require too much effort.

I used to love Terraria, but I don't like how it developed. I don't find the combat fun and you're extremely limited as to what you can actually do, since most decoration/furniture is non-functional.

Can't tame a horse or grow crops in Terraria, alchemy gardens excepted.

Fable?

It's a shame Fable 2 doesn't have a PC version.

For all the stupid ass survival clones we got none of them really filled the void left by striking out in Minecraft with Hexxit installed or something like that.

I really wish that we had gotten a game that combined the survival crafting/gathering/building craze but added in defending said creations against monsters and dungeons and whatnot to explore, the closest thing we have is Terraria that I can tell but I just don't enjoy playing Terraria.

>the closest thing we have is Terraria that I can tell but I just don't enjoy playing Terraria.
It's the overblown combat that does it for me. I just don't find the huge boss fights fun.

I'd much rather mod the shit out of Minecraft, build a cabin and start the life of a roaming merchant. Maybe eventually settle down, have a family, and then declare myself king of a village.

But Minecraft is badly coded as is, and mods are a clusterfuck.

I hope they decide to make it easy for people to mod the W10 version of Minecraft cause it runs way better but its a huge jump going from java to c++

As well as Minecraft looking like utter shit.

I like it, but I like it because non-cube voxel building games tend to be finnicky on transforming terrain.

Same here, so many survival games yet none have scratched my particular itch of survival+rpg+building.

Such a weird lack, too.

Survival genre blew up with DayZ which is just "gather random shit to not die"

Minecraft with building only ever went so far as to have hunger be the primary issue and you had really no threat from any of the enemies that roamed around.

Despite these genres meshing together well on paper people never really put them together because its harder than just spitting out some survival game with shitty building or building game with shitty survival on early access and raking in the money.

morrowind is the best for decorating

havoc was a mistake

Minecraft? Though it's just a sandbox

I haven't really played it so I can verify if it's good but is guilds series what you are looking for?

Star Wars galaxies.

isn't that dead
