It's the most generic jRPG series ever made. Not good, not bad, just forever stuck in this kind of purgatory. But it has waifus so that's enough for some people.

The older ones go at like 90% off when they're on sale, you can pick it up and see for yourself.

They're extremely shallow games that coast by on the cute girls and fan service. The first game was horrendously bad, everything since has just been consistently mediocre. Also, the most severe abuses of asset reuse this decade.

Buy the rebirth games when they go on sale, they're the mainline games.

The idea was a moeification of the console wars where the game systems are cute girls, with the canceled Sega Neptune.
It desolved away from that after that, sadly. Blanc is the Wii, but there's no character for the Wii U, or the Switch.
