So like, what's the deal with this...

So like, what's the deal with this. I haven't played the base game since 2013 when it went F2P and I'm still seeing cinematic trailers and advertisements for the game, specifically its latest expansion.

I hear that they really jumped ship (no pun intended) with the majority of the MMO features in favor of standard-fare bioware story based content. This has kind of peaked my interest, as the reason I even tried this game out was because I was hoping it'd be like KOTOR even with all the tacked on mmo shit. I was wrong.

So, what's Sup Forums's verdict.

Honestly it really is such a step in the right direction. The expansion really improves on the dialogue, speech options, choices, etc.

TECHNICALLY, it's still an MMO.

Forget that shit, though. It's a really gimped singleplayer RPG.

good tho?

I wouldn't say "good".
I still enjoyed it because it's Star Wars and I'm kinda used to modern bioware, so there's that.
I'd say get a subscription for one month and go ham, there's bound to be at least one class story you'll enjoy.

Played as a subscriber for a year. Without sub it's not worth the effort. You get snail progress, having to do all and every quest on each planet to just be able to tackle your class story mission. If you want to pay every month, sure, play. If not, don't bother.

So if money isn't an issue, go ahead, have fun. If I had cash to burn I'd hop back into SWTOR probably.

I personally switched to ESO, and feel better for it, even though I'm a huge KOTOR fan, and simply love BH/Mandalorian(roleplayed a Mando in SWTOR like crazy).

Pic related, my Mando.

I tried it when it first went f2p. You had to buy the ability to sprint. Immediately uninstalled.

Do they ever have return periods or discounted subs like EVE or XIV? The general consensus seems to be that either sub or don't play are the only options unless one really hates their sanity and spare time

Koth a shit. A SHIT!

Get a one month sub
Play through Jedi Knight, Sith Inquisitor and Imperial Agent storylines.
Delete the game again

I played through the Imperial Agent storyline in the span of one paid month with an xp boost event and I had decent fun, ignoring all of the side content and just rushing the class story and the planetary missions.

It was basically a shallower version of kotor at that point, which I was fine with. Keep in mind I played what is widely considered the best class story of the bunch, so the experience is probably considerably worse otherwise.

Technically is spot-on considering they sure as fuck forgot game was an MMORPG with the last "expansion" which they released in episodes that were all about solo story.

Of course, they said fuck the mmo crowd after hutt cartel's last raid.

On Hutta, there's a BH phase in Nemro's palace, which I could never access. Does anyone know if it's even possible to enter that phase?
It's on the right side of the cantina.
Would've been cool if Nemro was a recurring character in the BH's story.

Does later content cater more to the party wide story dungeon stuff? I really liked the early dungeon I tried where there was periodic cutscenes for your 5 man party and NPCs noting there was a jedi/sith there etc, but they seemed to stop happening after the early levels.

No, don't fall for the marketers. The game is still complete shit. I've been hearing people for the last few months say "oh it's still a good single player game!!! just play for the story!!!"

It's all garbage. Just play KOTOR and KOTOR 2. The art style is fucking shit too

are gays still trapped on a single planet?

>choices
lol. Telltale tier choices

On the other hand it's completely devoid of any MMO like content that it just reinforces what everyone was saying from day zero which was "Just make another fucking singleplayer KotOR"

Fuck no. Basically, first couple of dungeons are just a ruse and after that it just becomes regular MMO dungeons.

Yeah, that traitor is at the top of my kill list.

Doesn't help that he's probably a super robot or valkorions other spare body or some shit.

It's more of a problem because TOR's expansion in general are pitiful and really just glorified content patches.

Yeah it seemed that way, what a shame

Completely fails to captivate the world and amazement of Star Wars, which has been dead for years anyway. It's a mediocre MMO too.

I guess the music is alright though.

My biggest problem with the game was the voiced player characters
>made a bountry hunter
>made him look almost twink tier in looks because I wanted to go for a 'physically weak but makes up for it via technology/skills' type thing
>when I start it up he has the most Gruff, manly, bald space marine type voice
>ended up looking completely out of place with his weak ass scrawny body and badass tough guy voice
this is the main reason I hate voiced player characters in games with character customisation, because if you try to make the character look certain ways it just does not work because the characters voice/attitude just conflicts vastly with any attempts to roleplay

When was the last time you subbed though? because after they made a ton of quests optional (have to opt in via the map to even see them) and made the main quests scale to your level it goes pretty fast.
you also get minor and major experience boosts handed out to you like candy which helps, on average you're probably going to be near level 20 before even getting to your faction's capital world.

that being said the game is generic mmo shit and the only worthwhile storylines are the Imperial Agent and Sith Warrior
