AM2R & Pokemon Uranium Are No Longer Nominees For The Game Awards "Best Fan Creation" Category

I'm not even that interested for the Game Awards or any gaming award celebration, but this got me really mad.

>The Game Awards are more than a week away, but it looks like Nintendo wants to make sure that there’s no copyright infringement for the event they’re sponsoring. In fact, their efforts are so strong that half of the nominees for the “Best Fan Creation” category are now gone. Originally, the nominees were Project A2MR, Pokémon Uranium, Brutal Doom 64 and Enderal: The Shards of Order. However, A2MR and Pokemon Uranium are now gone. You can now choose between only Brutal Doom 64 and Enderal: The Shards of Order.

I can somewhat see the angle Nintendo is coming from when they were DMCAing these games (even though it's still bullshit), but interfering with an award show and snagging people of their recognition for the hard work they've done, just because they fear those fan games would be in the spot light once more? That's fucking pathetic, especially regarding AM2R.

If anyone at Nintendo ever reads this: AM2R is not going to stop existing, just because you have it removed from larger event. It will always be avaiable and it will always be the best Metroid game since Prime 3!

am2r was really fucking good

I agree.
In my rage, I didn't even notice that the Game Awards were sponsored by Nintendo, so... maybe this all makes a little more sense?
But still, I'm mad.

I still haven't played it yet. Is it really as good as people say it is, like "this is something an actual developer would make" good?

its zero mission tier with some prime sprinkled on top of it
I would buy it on the eshop

>I still haven't played it yet. Is it really as good as people say it is, like "this is something an actual developer would make" good?
Well if Nintendo gave a fucking crap about Metroid, I'm pretty sure they could develop a game that would blow AM2R out of the water. Same for companies like Retro Studios or maybe even NextLevelGames if they ever had a chance of developing their original pitch instead of having to work on Chibi Squad.

But it is pretty much on par with Zero Mission, maybe even better. Which means that it's pretty much the kind of quality you'd expect from a Metroid game.

I'd buy it as a retail version ; both for 3DS and Wii U; if that existed.

Uranium was awful
Nintendo stay winning

Who cares. Although I really wonder what were they thinking in putting copyright infringing non-mods on the list.

for a rom hack

What's the problem? The games may infringe on some copyright ; but mentioning the games as an example for great game design doesn't!

it's not a romhack though

Well damn, I better play this hot shit next weekend then.

Just remember that it is a remake of metroid 2, which in many ways was pretty shitty in its original form. AM2R fixes literally everything that was wrong with the base game, adds in maps, new sprites and textures and native controller support. It's a 10/10 remake, only limited by the nature of the actual game they were recreating.

>I'm not even that interested for the Game Awards or any gaming award celebration, but
you think we gonna believe that lie, retard?

>best fan creation
>oh, no, those dont count, they're infringing on the games they're fan creations of
is nintendo's legal appartment staffed by fucking mouthbreathers?

Those are my initial worries going into it. I've played the original Metroid 2 plenty of times and I've never failed to find flaws in its designs.

Aside from playing a role of telling an important story arch, the game itself isn't that significant or interesting.
I've always wanted a remake that makes the game less flawed and more interesting.

You're taking these awards too seriously. They're more of an industry galas where everyone pats themselves on the back. Having fan-Metroid there is basically flipping a bird at them, which would give cause for Nintendo to just say "fuck it" and pull from the awards. And then it'd be awkward for everyone.

I would remind you their big holiday item is selling 30 year old roms you can download for free.

It's just a romhack dude, get over it.

that's just spiteful. it's not enough they've slapped them with a dmca, they're going full damnatio memoriae on them.

>download illegally
FTFY

You care about Pokemon Uranium THIS much?

I prefer Pokemon Plutonium

Never watched or followed any gaming award event. Just noticed this one because AM2R was nominated. Well, it WAS.

legally they have the high ground, there isn't a debate, getting angry makes no sense, those people who worked on those fan games would be better making original content maybe they would even make some money, we know the law don't act surprised

This. Ask yourself if you would care about the hack if it didn't have the Metroid name attached.

Your next line will be "No, I wouldn't but that's not the point because Nintendo is being a big meanie head"

The only weak part that remains in AM2R are the repetitive metroid fights, especially some of the later ones where half the map is magma. Though I must also say that using an xbox controller made these fights easier in general. I'd recommend playing it, you'll enjoy it 10x more knowing just how much of an improvement the remake is.

>we know the law don't act surprised
Which laws says we can't have a stupid game award celebration in which we recognize the qualities of games that infringe on copyright?
It's like saying you're not allowed to talk positively about Banksy's art, because he smeared some walls, which is obviously illegal.

You're assuming these people don't have jobs and would make money from said fan games, and that's hilarious.

He's thinking in categories like productivity, "labor", profit, laws and their enforcement ; even though we're talking about a dumb game award, where people should focus ont he qualities of games!

Nintendo is doomed to go the way of Sega, they'll soon degrade to publisher tier with no software of their own, as they deserve. This is because of shitty business practices like this and snubbing fans and relying on exploiting dumb kids who don't know any better.

If they start actually putting out good games again they wouldn't need to act like a fan-made version of a long dead gba game no one could buy anyway is a giant threat to their company.

I'm not saying you souldn't be able to talk about them I'm saying you have 100% of losing every debate, nintendo sponsores the event they are a fucking company not your friend, I'm not defending them I'm just saying that i don't get the drama.

Where did I say that they don't have other jobs? I'm saying is a dumb idea and legally you have no chace period, and an extra money is always nice.

>legal high ground is a moral high ground
Please kill yourself and anyone related to you if you think this.

is moral to steal a property of someone else?

Oh my god.
Here we go.

If that's the way this legal shit works, why even have this category at all? What kind of fanmade game WOULD be legal to have for this?

This fuckin guy.

Well fanmade games are a pilar of the ''gaming comunity'' but not a legal one, I get from where this category comes from but if you want to make money with your event you have to make compromises some times you hugh some dorito bags some times you ban a fanmade game.

He's not wrong

>just because they fear those fan games would be in the spot light once more?
Time for bed, kiddo

>vandalism
>""""""""""""art"""""""""""""""
Are you 12?

Fuck you guys I'm going further with this because ''The Game Awards'' company is fucking taking Nintendo money, morallity? Check ''The Game Awards'' first they are the ones giving on to Nintendo.

>we're talking about a dumb game award, where people should focus ont he qualities of games!

Fuck you, is always about money.

its immoral to use copyrights

It is art, though. It is not relevant whether you appreciate it.

Art only exist to be appreciated

>30 year old rom
>not 15 year
I think you mean Animal Crossing

It's immoral to like feminine dicks yet you all fucking faggots love'm

It's enough if the artist itself appreciates it.

>art that none else but you can apreciate
>and artist without public
It's never enough, most of them don't end well.

>Make Metroid Great Again
I'd just settle for "Make Metroid Again" at this point.

That kinda attitude is how we got M:OM and FF.

Make it great or don't bother making it at all.

Nintendo was just pissed that their were more nominations for fangames based off of their properties than their own games.

>which would give cause for Nintendo to just say "fuck it" and pull from the awards.

I thought them having basically no nominations already did that.

Just shows the ZeniMax/Bethesda is less cancerous than fucking Nintendo.

Pokemon Uranium is shit anyway.

>This is the first time in both the Game Awards and it's original inception, the Spike Video Game Awards that nominees from the Fan Creation category have been removed

TOP KEK

They were probably pissed because they have pretty much no nominations. Fucking Xenoblade is put in the RPG category as a fucking pity nomination as it didn't even come out this year, but they had to scrape whatever they could to not upset Nintendo.

Its to ROS what zero mission was to original.

So yea that good.
Gods better then last two metroid games nintendo has put out

T-They're stealing N-N-Nintendo-sama's money!

T-Those games didn't even come close to modern Nintendo quality!

*rebuys Federation Force in anger*

AM2R did make it great again, then nintendo got mad and killed it

No, it isn't. Vandalism is shit and fuck all those who do it.

The category is BEST FAN CREATION.
The two remaining nominees, by your standards, are STILL "copyright infringing".
ANYTHING that could be entered in that category, being fan work, would also be "copyright infringing".
You are a god damned fucking retard.

Vandalism is shit. Art can be shit too, though. I don't see why we can't vandalism excludes art.

> BD64 will win

youtube.com/watch?v=I7yxlSURxRw&index=6

oh no, not the game awards, anything but that

Uranium shouldn't have been there in the first place. I can and will throw a fit about A2MR, though.

>my romhack is better than the other romhack

>voting is done via twitter
If you're so salty about it, start a campaign to tweet votes for AM2R instead of the other candidates. It obviously won't win, but it will raise people's awareness about Nintendo's dickery.

Guys, guys...

Not all vandalism is art.
Not all art is vandalism.
Sometimes the two overlap i.e. some vandalism can be art.

they would need to release games in order for them to get nominated

>Nintendo wants to make sure that there’s no copyright infringement for the event they’re sponsoring
>Brutal Doom 64 is still in there

They're clearly mad as fuck some randos made better games than them.

It's because DOOM 2016 was really succesfull, so no need to protect that IP.
Metroid on the other hand had nothing in years but shit, so people might mistake AM2R for an original game. Right?

I make sure to let everyone I know with a passing interest in Metroid about AM2R because it's just that good

Fuck you Nintendo you can't make the game go away no matter how hard you try

It's not a romhack though, it's a completely built from the ground up game

This. AM2R is a great remake, but the metroid hunting is shit.

Brutal Doom 64 is also copywrite infringing, but Beth is actually positively talking about it getting nominated

Besides copywrite infringement has nothing to do with the ability to give something an award

He's "trolling" you bro

He's posted this in every thread on this topic

It's easily 2016's GOTY. The very last good Metroid game, to boot. Which is what makes Nintendo's attempt to purge it so awful.

Would I care about a freely-available Metroidvania that beats most commercial releases in the past decade, but it's not called "Metroid"?

Hmm, it's a tough one, but I think I'm leaning towards "yes".

>Look at me guys i'm such mature adult defending corporations on the internet! All you kids just don't understand how the world works! They HAVE to fuck over people who aren't in any way impeding their business!
gross desu

I did care about Axiom Verge though

I'm honestly upset.

I would have loved to see how shitter-shattered Reggie would be if AM2R won.

does nintendo really think that running these games out of town is worth whatever meager extra sales they think they're getting? this shit makes them so hateable, since the games are basically love letters to the company's properties from hardworking fans.

This is how counterculture a lot of Sup Forums has become user. We're so against the norm that some people have become corporate ball washers

But.. Pokemon is a baby game..

Guys?

How's Brutal Doom 64? Never played a Doom game.

I mean, you can't really blame Nintendo for not wanting to promote copyright infringement.

Okay and?

Valve's entire business comes from selling games that you can download for free

>those comments in OPs link

The only place with worse comments than YouTube is MNN

Nintenyearolds are ridicoulous

Dogshit. BR's can't into videogames, who knew?

Jesus Christ I thought the Nintendo defense force here was bad

some of them are naive, others are shit as expected, but overall the ones under this particular article are better than usual

new generation of nintendrones, raised in times where social media dominate everything and the illusion companies are your literal friends is kept alive, obeys everything their idols say and no longer knows the joy of playing and making less shitty and more shitty fangames thrown together in thegamesfactory or other software of that sort
they think of the fangames as of chinese bootlegs they've briefly seen on the internet

Why did you have to let me know these people exist

I hope they Konami the fuck out of this and make Nintendo look really fucking bad during the ceremony. Jesus when did this company become pure fucking cancer

>nintendo sponsoring dorito man awards that is barley an event

Why? They get nothing out of it, I doubt any nintendo game will win anything too.

large press for the upcoming Switch release

You know something's wrong when a multi-billion company finds a fan game to be damaging to their brand to the point where they veto any and all mention of it, while putting out a title that's the exact opposite of what fans wanted.

>Konami keeps Kojima from appearing last year
>everyone shames Konami
>Nintendo keeps fan projects from being nominated
>everyone applaudes Nintendo

You can't make this shit up

They should've just showed it at E3. I seriously don't get this company anymore.

People say it's because traditions and old Japanese men, but all tradition was bucked by Iwata.
