Possible Nintendo Purchase?

Was thinking about buying a 3DS, or some other Nintendo platform. I've been a PC gamer most of my life, but figured might as well tune into some of the exclusives I keep hearing about that I can't get through emulators.

Would you guys have any recommendations for exclusives/devices I should buy? I was thinking handheld as I don't actually own a TV and don't really have a good reason to buy one.

Thanks!

Hi guise, im a PC gaymer.....

...

you say that about everything

As a PC gamer myself, I bought 3DS as a Monster Hunter machine. But it ended up being more than that, and is now fully hacked. So it was a very good investment in the end.

Oh fuck off, I'm just explaining where I'm coming from in terms of experience and preference.

Thanks mate. I've recieved recommendations for Monster Hunter elsewhere, so I might make that one of my first purchases. What about the latest Pokemon? I feel like that's a Nintendo staple that I should get into, but I have no idea if the latest in the series was good or not.

Well, I wouldn't waste your money on a WiiU, but as for the 3DS I usually only play normie shit ie Zelda, monster hunter, Pokémon. As for exclusives the Etrian Odyssey games, Bravely Default/Second, Professor Layton, and other random entries from bigger companies porting old games or continuing new ones (Fatal Frame, Metal Gear [I forget which one was remade], Resident Evil) are also good.

Have you been posting this around all of the threads? Or is that just a particularly common meme today?

common meme

first time ive ever posted it

I swear I've seen it at least 5 times today.

Buy Sun / Moon, it's not as easy to nuzlocke challenge and they made a lot of good (and some poor) decisions this time around. 6th gen is fine but as a fan I felt very ripped off by the lack of storytelling in X/Y and Omega Ruby was not what I wanted. If you're into competitive the new meta isn't as brainless as it used to be.

I honestly never had much interest in Nintendo's first party games. Least of all Pokeman. But lots of autistic people love it.

This seems like solid advice, I'll probably stick to the 3DS and look into each of those titles. I've got a bit of commute to work that I think a handheld will make more bearable.

Make sure you get the n3DS(xl)

There will be a "New 3DS" coming out soon (Black Friday weekend) specially priced at $100. That's probably one of your best deals, since it can play DS/3DS games and is fairly cheap in comparison to its normal price.

If you don't want to go that much, then a 2DS will also play DS/3DS games and tends to go for around $70. There isn't really that large of a difference between the two, except that the 2DS doesn't have the 3D feature and is a bit more of a budget system.

Cheaper than that is going to be a (used) DS system, probably the DS Lite. You'd want to make sure that any used system you pick up is in good condition. The DS has a touchscreen (so does the 2DS and 3DS) and so you will run into used ones where the screen is scratched all to hell and unusable anymore, much like some used smartphones. So makes sure the touchscreen, the bottom one, is in good condition and all the buttons work. DS systems will play DS and GBA games, which is a really good library as well.

On the Sony side, I have a bit more hesitancy to recommend. The Vita is a fine device, but the memory cards for the thing are incredibly expensive (up to $100, and cannot buy third party) and over half the library is digital only, which requires a sizable memory card to download and play. The games are also much harder to find, and even some older ones that were released physically you might not locate outside digital purchases. Also, as a note, Sony loves losing credit card information so you are probably better off buying a PSN cash card and entering that to make digital purchases. (You can do the same thing with Nintendo's eShop, although that is a bit less mandatory.)

You can also get a Sony PSP, which is the system before the Vita. Unlike Nintendo's 3DS/DS titles, the games aren't compatible between systems and the PSP games are even harder to track down. Not one I'd recommend right off hand.

user do NOT take 's advice, as current n3DS XL models cannot be hacked. Unless you pay for everything like a normal human bean.

five times too many it's a shit macro

i'll probably pay for things. It's a moral thing for me, plus I make enough money it doesn't actually make a big difference in my life.

Seems like solid advice. Is the 3D feature worth it?

>Is the 3D feature worth it?
Not really. Nobody uses it, and it doesn't bear any important function outside of I think some mario games. It just makes your handheld discharge faster.
New 3DS does have some other benefits though, like faster loading time or even better graphics. But only in games where the devs bothered to include the higher res textures. For example MH4U on n3DS looks better than on o3DS, but MHGen looks equally bad on both.

>Is the 3D feature worth it?
No. The original 3DS and 3DS XL had a pretty crappy feature: it worked at a specific angle but tilt it slightly and the entire image got fucked up. The New 3DS and New 3DS XL apparently uses the camera for head tracking, allowing it to be adjusted for a bit without fucking up. However, only about three games or so really "require" it and it's frivolous in most titles, so you'd never even noticed if you turned the 3D effect off entirely or just never had it with the 2DS.

>the exclusives I keep hearing about that I can't get through emulators.

Good news user. Citra (3DS) and Cemu (Wii U) are both making rapid progress and some games are already 100% playable. Assuming your CPU is good enough, you'll probably be able to emulate every worthwhile 3DS and Wii U game within the next year or two, complete with better framerates and higher resolutions.

Don't lie user.
