Tomb Raider Definitive Edition

I'm currently playing through this (got it for less than 20 bucks) and I'm having a blast.
I like both set-piece roller coasters ("movie games") and open world games, but I find the first ones too limiting and often get lost in the latter with a those side quests, quickly forgetting what was the main purpose of playing the game.
This get's the balance just right, I can choose to continue follow the plot set-pieces or just fast travel back to locations to poke around and hunt treasures.
While the writing itself doesn't make much sense, the platforming and combat ist pretty good (I hate the occasional stupid QTEs though).
Also young Lara is a qt.

The sequel, on the other hand, bored me to tears even though it's the exact same game. I don't even

I like this game alot, I plan to replay it before starting the sequel. Going to upgrade my rig first though I can only handle medium.

Generic third person shooter and 0 interesting riddles or puzzles. Not sure why its even called tomb raider anymore
>LARA GET BEHIND COVER TO REGENERATE YOUR HEALTH!

So this is better than Rise? I know nothing about either one but I'm looking for a nice single player experience.

It's the exact same game except better in every way

I don't know if it's better than RoTR, I decided to play this first (was cheaper anyway).
Last TR I played before it was Underworld, which I enjoyed too, just its ending felt a bit rushed.

>start your series off by going from "dead deer so sad ;_;" to literally murdering a Japanese god

I don't thing they thought this through very well, you can't exactly top this without going full Infinite Warfare.

Oh, a generic third-person shooter that shoehorns in crafting and has terrible story and characters. Game was shit, barely finished it.

>movie games
Kill yourself immediately

Nu-Lara was a mistake.
Crystal Dynamics TR games were a mistake.

Gameplay looks pretty shit, tbqh.

I didn't like TR but i like Rise.

Also TR does have that really weird torture porn motif where she is constantly grunting and screaming in orgasmic pain while doing absolutely anything.

I wish there was still room for a Tomb Raider with levels and multiple locales instead of this overworld shit.

Why can't we still have classic laura games every other year?

I played Underworld after the reboot and have no idea why a reboot was needed. Underworld was great.

most people never got past the garbage boat opening level.

I just can't understand how anybody can play those games and think "yes, this is really what I want from a videogame".

I played all of Rise when i was sick over a weekend and it is really fun when you just kind of scoff at the cutscenes and story.

True, don't take video game stories too serious.

Crystal Dynamics made some good ones though.

I got them both for pretty cheap and while I found that they were technically okay I just couldn't get over how much handholding there is and how many times the game takes Lara's control from you or how repetitive and basic the combat was. I don't think the story was THAT bad, just another AAA game.

I'm glad you can enjoy it, user.

The first one is definitely guilty of that, that opening part with the collapsing cave, if you dont run the platforms just stop collapsing until you start running again.

The second one really wasn't that bad about it though, there was a few handholding setpieces but the optional Tombs were very fun although really short.

I dont mind nu-lara gameplay i just enjoy old tomb raider aesthetics much more. I like the jetsetting aspect and Lara being a little bit older and filthy rich.

Like i always imagined Lara to be in her early thirties. This millenial Lara really isn't my thing even if they decide to sex her up eventually.

At least there IS actual gameplay.

I don't think anybody sees TR'13 or '15 as GOTY, the best TR of all times or the pinnacle of gaming. Still pretty solid "modern" video games I think.

Yeah, I agree.

I don't think original Lara's backstory was that bad, and reveling outfit aside, her character was more interesting and stronger.

But compared to todays games, it's pretty dated. I would pick nuTR than PS1 game. Jesus, is Sup Forums this bias with retro games?

It's really good. The combat was surprisingly really fucking fun.

The sequel was decent but I agree with you. While the first was full of shooting the second not so much. Also the shooting itself in the first felt so much more satisfying. Apart from that though, the second one was better in every other way. I still way prefer the first.

I can confirm that it was.

I was annoyed that i bought that 20th anniversary dlc for the throwback skins but it turns out you can only use them post-game.

What's the fucking point?

I'm annoyed that modern lara doesn't have classic tomb raider outfits. Really wanted to see her in them hot pants and blue vest.
