Are dark souls games meme on pc or are they actually playable ports?
Playable if you have a controller.
>plug in controller
>play game
also if its ds1
>install dsfix
>configure dsfix
Install DSfix, use a controller.
dark souls 1 is playable in pc with dsfix, tho the 60 fps unlock is kinda broken, 2 and 3 are fine
What does meme mean in this context?
At worst (i.e. no fixes) they are still better than the console versions.
what about keyboard
not sure if its achievement but i managed to beat dmc3 multiple times on keyboard
That goes for every single multiplat.
you can literally set it to any resolution you want, even fucking 5x5, and the UI resolution is separate, meaning you can play at a low resolution (say, 640x480) but still have the UI legible because it's at a higher res (as i recall, the UI resolution actually needs to be of a certain amount, i think 800x600, because otherwise it will crash)
its honestly not bad, for ds1 youll have to adjust the mouse settings i think, havent tried it with keyboard in a while
It can be done, but it's a total pain in the ass in DaS 1 & 2, kinda passable in 3.
Best just to invest ~40€ in a 360 pad.
dark souls IS a meme game
Are there any good controllers for PC you can recommend? Not sure how expensive these things are.
I need to try this on like 360*1440.
a friend of mine did it on keyboard, but I just can't play 3rd person games with keyboard unless they're mmos, your call
the wired xbox 360 controller is the go-to, the xbone one is apparently easy to set up now but i havent tried it
theres no reason to not own a 360 controller
K&M sucks ass but is managable, my first playthrough I played with K&M and without DSfix I think and it was still fun, allthough annoying at times.
I'm using a xbox360 wireless one and it's pretty good.
>playing Dead Space with a pad
Pads are only forst platformers (worst genre ever inveted), racing games and 3rd person hack & slash with no precise aiming. And maybe space sims if you don't have a joystick.
60 fps works fine you just have to press a key to limit to 30 fps when using a ladder or bonfire occasionally.
Even if you don't play at 60, it's worth using dsfix to disable the game's built in double bufffer vsync which will drop fps immediately to 30 if it goes a frame under 60. Disable it and then limit it to 30.
Steam controller is pretty decent with trackball + gyro, can imagine somebody going pro in arena shooters if they spent the time to nail muscle memory. Hell there's one madman who does some damn good quake with a 360 controller, but he has custom acceleration curves made. I'm sure he's limited but it's still damn impressive.
I also like pads for stealth games like chaos theory because of how they tie animations to movement speeds in that game.
Dualshock 4 and boner controllers and both good on PC, dualshock 4 now can be configured through steam like the steam controller so you can actually use its gyro to aim in fps games like you would in something like splatoon.
Every controller is good at different things, I think dualshock and Xbox layouts can work for just about everything but IMO having the Dpad be in line with face buttons is a must for 2D games.
All controllers use Bluetooth now, even newer Xbox controllers.
Get a boner controller over a 360 one, bumpers should be fixed, no battery buldge.
WiiuPro is also good, though drivers are iffy
I've played through both Das 1 and 2 with mouse and keyboard with no issues, just customize the keys and you'll be fine. Then again i've never tried with a controller, and the general consensus is that that's better.
Get dsfix though
Finished 1,2 and 3 on mouse + keyboard.
In case of 2 i changed controlls to just keyboard. Due to lag of mouse pushing LMB and key on keyboard simultaneously to perform jump attack was really hard to time.
>Keyboard is perfectly fine
>Necessity of pad is a fucking meme
Also i have beaten dmc 3 and 4 on keyboard too with all the cancel jumps and flashy combos. Sometimes keys blocked but with better keyboard i wouldn't see a difference.
With gamepad i am actualy worse.
1 requires DSFix. If you want to use KB+M it also requires DSMFix. There are some texture packs aswell, but those are optional (then again, why wouldn't you).
2 works fine. If you want KB+M you will need to fuck around with AutoHotkey. Google it, there's a script filr on reddit.
3 works fine.
It's shit but manageable. I've completed NG+7 about 20 times over with KB+M. I do have a PS3 Dualshock and completed some playthroughs with it, but always went back to KB+M even if it's shit. You're more dependant on lock-on and bosses you fight between their legs (Golem, Centipede, Big Orns) are harder, but you can do more things. Controller gives you better movement that feels more comfortable and natural but severely restricts the stuff you can do unless you claw with both hands, which feels all kinds of awkward and wrong.
DS1 is the shittiest port of the 3.
DSFix fixes almost everything thankfully.
2 is fine and 3 is too. (In terms of not being an ass port.)
