>TL;DR: Ubisoft will only release cosmetic shit as paid DLC, content that affects gameplay will be free from this point forward
Never thought Ubisoft of all companies would say that.
"No more DLC that gamers have to buy for the full experience" - Ubisoft
Cosmetic shit shouldn't even be payed DLC anyway, so this isn't that great news.
>Never thought Ubisoft of all companies would say that.
I'm not sure how their annual profit margins are at, but maybe they're losing sales because of DLC.
I'll believe it when I see it.
Why
Well cordoning off a quarter of the game behind a pay wall wasn't the best idea to begin with.
Doesn't say they'll stop the Season Pass though, so that'll still be a thing with "exclusive" additional content.
>ubisoft not being shit for a minute
This has to be a joke article.
>"We're not going to be charging users for DLC.. Except for Watch_Dogs 2 and the Division, our two biggest releases in 2016. We're still gonna make you pay for DLC for that throughout 2017."
>losing money
>because of DLC
lolno
If people want to pay $5 for a shiny gun in some tacked on multiplayer mode, let them.
Fool and his money, etc.
People were probably avoiding buying their games because they're DLC-fests. Or because they can't make a good game to save their lives, but let some out-of-touch executive believe what he wants.
You can talk all the talk you want Ubisoft, but once you go back on your word due to your constant corporate greed your reputation will be FUUUUUCKED even further
The only industry is in a contraction. Big name sequels aren't making the same money as their predecessors. This whole year has seen every big release make less than expected.
They have to do something to win people back, or they'll die a slow death. They're going to anyway, since the normies are abandoning gaming and moving to other things now, so the budgets of the past aren't going to be sustainable in the future.
It'll be interesting to see if the whole thing collapses or if companies just release fewer/smaller games
Unless they proactively make all their prior DLCs free, this means nothing.
They're just going to keep pumping out "Expansions" using some bullshit logic loophole that as long as a DLC has nothing to do with the main story, that it's perfectly fine to sell.
>It's a fool and his money if they make everything brown and hide color behind another paywall!
>implying brown isn't a color
>buying Ubishit
>playing Ubishit
no.
Few years ago Sup Forums considered cosmetic DLC only acceptable form of DLC
And now no more paid map packs dividing the community for optional skins is bad? What the fuck happened?
they say this all the time
>Paid dlc
Bad, regardless of what it is. Costumes should be a cool unlockable.
>All DLC
While we're at it - bad. Paid or free. Release a full game worth buying, then don't change it.
Does this mean they're to let The Division die?
one person said cosmetic dlc is acceptable and youll just selectively asume all of Sup Forums thinks that
There is literally nothing wrong with adding on to the game after it releases to pronte longevity. Paid or not.
The Division was a piece of fucking excrement from the start. What kind of autistic fuckhead wants to keep grinding for better gun numbers? Who the fuck is still playing this dog shit bullet sponge game? Why the fuck would you care if they put out more DLC for this putrid excuse of a cash-in?
>then don't change it.
Why is it bad to release more content to people that like your game
>games shouldn't be supported post release
>one person said cosmetic dlc is acceptable
That was quite a lot of people. There was even a pic quite often posted in the past with "hurr nice gold faggit"
Child of Light 2 when?
Because I want a game that us worth buying, then I don't want a bunch of shit that totally changes that. Already ibdont play multiplayer games anymore, at least partly because of that. Look at what happened to TF2. I don't want that shit.
I'm curious. I didn't buy it obviously. It's a strange thing to say 6 months after releasing a game literally built from the ground up to sell DLC.
It doesn't even affect the base game, get over yourself. Cosmetic DLC is the only acceptable form of DLC.
>Release a full game worth buying, then don't change it.
Why? What's wrong with a developer making a full game, then after it's out going "you know, it'd be cool if game x had this new feature". I'd prefer to pay $10 for some new content over buying another $60 game.
But DLC planned during the game's development is a fucking scam. That's just being a kike.
Watch dogs 2 probably isn't doing so hot. Siege started out shit too, and people say it's good now but I highly doubt it will ever reach the expectations. Same with the division. And there wasn't an asscreed this year because they've been so shit recently
People are finally voting with their wallets and it seems to be paying off. A lot of AAA games this fall are underperforming
too late. their reputation is already in the gutter
TF2 is exception that went wrong after 2010.
If not for post release updates, original Killing Floor would be fucking bare bones right now.
Because they tend to make DLC costumes cooler then the in game ones. Which is seriously fucking gay.
This won't last long
>all these ubishills defending cosmetic dlc
fucking redditors, no DLC is ok
>But DLC planned during the game's development is a fucking scam. That's just being a kike.
90% of all DLC in a nutshell.
This is how shit should have been since the dawn of "DLC". Leviathan for example, is the very core of Mass Effect's backstory, but it's paid DLC.
Instead, you spergs sperged over cosmetic DLC like Oblivion's horse armor.
TF2 did really good with post-release content until they started going retarded with hats and making it F2P. All free and unlockable by playing the game.
Exactly, which is why most DLC is shit.
You're an irrational moron. Let me guess, alt right SJW? Let me help you with that.
They did it right with Rainbow Six Siege. You can unlock all the DLC operators through gameplay and like 95% of the skins and costumes. Only a few cosmetics require real money
Hahahahahaha ubisoft coming out with the lies to try and save face ubiaids can fucking die
so they are not going removing jewnuvo, jewplay and making good games again.
Well it's fucking nothing then
I bought it and had fun playing through the story missions & traveling around the city, etc. But that's all I expected out of it.
They tried to make a tactical shooter into an MMO with "end-game content." Of course it was garbage because cover is useless when enemies can just run through your fire and blast you without feeling a thing. But they also fucked themselves the same way Destiny and Diablo 3 fucked themselves at the start - they fucked up the loot. By making good drops impossible to obtain in the fear that people would stop playing once they have best in slot gear, they made the game impossibly boring and progression impossibly slow.
Gear issues were also broader, as balance was absolute dog shit. Only 2 classes of weapons were any good, and only a select handful of skills/traits were any good on those weapons.
Add up all these things, as well as completely incompetent devs who did the exact opposite of what the community was asking for to make the game playable, and you have a perfect shit storm.
The DLC they make also doesn't do anything to add actual content to the game, so that it might actually be fun to play some stuff over looking for drops. Instead, they make uninspired bullshit and can't even fix the broken garbage that they started with.
FUCK THE DIVISION I FUCKING HATE IT SO MUCH IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO GOOD GOD DAMN IT.
They realized that it's profitable with Siege after it gained traction via free DLC. It's a good idea but their games are probably going to still be ass mostly
What does Denuvo has anything to do with? That pirates can't play?
>It doesn't even affect the base game, get over yourself. Cosmetic DLC is the only acceptable form of DLC.
Yeah it sure was acceptable when horse armor was announced back then, but don't worry though it's """"cosmetic""""".
Costumes used to be unlocks in games.
Now they are DLC.
This is garbage.
No mods.
>No more DLC
That's great news!
>Ubisoft games
Oh.....
Well they are one of the worst regarding DLC so it's a step in the right direction at least. Maybe they'll set a precedent for other companies.
But there are. See MGSV, Just Cause 3 or God Eater.
inb4 "there's no multiplayer mod for Just Cause 3 thanks to Denuvo"
There was one working mp mod in development that stopped development because guy in charge got hired.
And now there's second working mod in development.
And anyway, barely any AAA game in the recent past even without Denuvo had any kind of mod support other than simple texture hacks, so don't pretend Denuvo suddenly killed all the modding. It all depends on dedication of the community.
>Ubisoft
So nothing changes and I will continue to not buy their games? Ok.
This is really good news if true, as Ubisoft always try so hard to cash in with those pre-orders and pre-order dlc's so that they can just shit out a barely working """game""" and not care about long term profit.
Maybe they will focus on making their games playable on release instead of shitting out thousands of dlc from now on.
ubisoft games are the worst in the industry. I put EA above them. They can change their practices all they want but their games are all redskins of each other with the same garbage connected online UI that makes everything slow
FUCK ubijew.
I am so fucking glad Ubishit is reaping what they sowed these last years.
But even if they stopped being shit right now, it will take a long fucking time for their reputation to recover.
They literally became worse than EA.
Only bottoms like ubisoft games
You think they are cooler because they're the ones you don't have.
>redskins
UHHH RACIST AND SEXIST MUCH
>only release cosmetic shit as paid DLC
Well it's a start i'd rather DLC be killed completely.
>Ubisoft
Wait who cares? This is just a desperate attempt to pander to get some sales because nobody is buying their trash.
Ubisoft has always been actually aware that learning from own mistakes is a concept that exists. It's just that they're not very good at it.
hahahah suck my dick fucking western niggers. Western gaming devs are the most talentless and subhuman son of a whores when it comes to singleplayer games. They can only make decent onling pvp games. For singleplayer games I'll buy japanese games.
FromSoftware alone is worth more than entire western single-player gaming dev population, fucking tripple gAAAy trash, pixelated indie fags and SJW corruption.
SUCK MY DICK NIGGERS, you won't get my money.
They day Valve starts making games again is when western gaming will be good again.
They realized they get much more money with the Overwatch system, or the one Siege does.
Everything is free, but cosmetics take a bit to unlock, so you can either pay for them, or fall for the lootbox thing.
Because your opinion is not shared by the rest.
The Division is still the best selling game of 2016.
Both this and Destiny prove that people like grinding.
>I highly doubt it will ever reach the expectations
What expectations?
Literally no one expected anything from it, and yet here it is, with a more active base than when it came out.
Jesus fuck, do you have brain damage, user?
>Valve
>good games
Yep, certainly.
Black Flag was fun user. You can't deny it.
Because at one time, there existed these things called unlockables, which were tied to some form of actual gameplay that didn't include a credit card. Then, DLC came. Loving video games more every year.
>alt right SJW
you have to be 18+ to post here
>dlc
should only be allowed if it adds at least 30% content for ~30% of base game price, aka expansions
>paid cosmetics
literal cancer, maybe they should reward players with unlockables instead of useless fucking achievements
holy shit I've grown to hate this industry so much
Anyone else get pissed off at DLC releasing far after the base game?
I've stopped playing your game by the time you've released this shit, I liked what I played but how can you expect me to get back into it at the same level as before when I've played so much other shit in the interim.
NG+ Hearts of Stone I'm looking at you.
>Never thought Ubisoft of all companies would say that.
It's because R6:Siege has been a success and, by all accounts, it's due to the free updates they've been churning out.
I'm willing to bet they're earning a decent chunk from cosmetics in that game.
