What a disappointing game. Spoilers ahead. I finally got around to playing the sequel.
After dantooine, the game just falls apart. Swarms of grunts encourage spamming the broken force abilities. The endgame boss battles were a let down for how hyped up the characters made them and there was no satisfaction or closure in the end dialogue. Just vague visions of what will happen. The quests in general felt like chores instead of fun. The companions for the most part weren't engaging or interesting enough to want to learn about. I was going to replay it as dark side user, but the last half of the game took away my interest.
Nicholas Price
It's interesting to convert your teamates morality and turn them into jedi/dark jedi. Kreia's dialogue was cool. Other than that yeah its a highly incomplete game. I still enjoyed it.
I had a sick glitch near the end where for some reason I was soloing TWO Darth Sions. Shit was cash.
Carson Evans
Both Kotor games suffer from being too easy. All you ever need to do is spam flurry and everything will die in one round.
James Ward
1 is infinitely better in just about every aspect, I'm not sure why people say just because the writing in 2 is somehow deemed more sophisticated and deep that it automatically makes it a better game
The restored content mod fucking sucks ass too
Colton Perry
Yea kriea, Mira, and bao-dur were interesting dialogue wise, the rest not so much.
Agreed, I have flurry and the light Saber form that gives an extra attack and would just mow down an average enemy in one or two rounds
Benjamin Hill
Are you playing with the mod?
Samuel Brooks
I always forget about that bounty hunter chick. She was hot but so fucking worthless. Especially considering how late you get her and that stupid wookie
Andrew Evans
I was going to do the first play though vanilla, then replay with the mod so I could see what is different. I'll probably try it in a month or two when I'm more motivated to slog through it again. I mean I enjoyed the game, the ending just left a bad taste in my mouth
Elijah Sanchez
TSLRM is really implied at this point Whatever happened to Team Gizka anyway?
Jeremiah Stewart
I got her on the second planet, but she was so weak combat wise compared to the others. She's fun to talk to, but worthless in combat
Anthony Green
The problem is Nar Shaada takes for fucking ever so everyone just procs the slavers and does everything they need to do and then leaves it for last
Jose King
user, you need the TSLRCM for KOTOR II, it'll restore the a good portion of the game and make the endings actually have closure.
Owen Garcia
So is the Exile or Revan more powerful in the lore?
Nolan Sullivan
Pre or post TORtanic?
Dylan Carter
Before ToR, within the kotor II lore. I remember kriea saying the Exile was stonger, but I feel Revan had better feats
Luis Bennett
Exile with wound>Revan>post-KotOR2 Exile
Luis Perez
Powerlevels aren't as straight forward in this case Exile is a wound in the force that is super fucking malignant if your DS but more like a sieve who collects the force as LS Revan was super gifted in the force and described as a whirling tornado or the heart of it. Plus he has tactical bullshit powers
I like the Exile a lot more but I'd say Revan would win more often than not unless the Exile gets the jump on him and exploits his wound status
Luis Ross
I'm not sure I understood the implications of the wound. Does it directly affect another's strength in the force? I remember them saying the Exile unconsciously forces people to follow him/her, but does it have a direct effect in combat?
Grayson Sullivan
Kreia tells the Exile at the end of the game that (s)he's the greatest she's ever trained. And she trained Revan too. If you compare the two games then the Exile's accomplishments completely dwarf what Revan did in K1.
William Scott
Kreia last met Revan when he was a young Jedi It's sufficient to say the Kreia wanted to manipulate Exile into destroying the Force.
Brody Murphy
Wound as in no actual connection to the force, but still able to use it. Like an anomoly in the force. Exile always had a unique ability to have people follow him/her, even befor Malachor. It was apparently something the jedi masters were concerned about.
Mason Young
DS Exile uses it to drain the force out of the Masters to kill them and certain force powers used on her will fuck you up
Cameron Turner
>It's sufficient to say the Kreia wanted to manipulate Exile into destroying the Force.
No she specifically says there would be victory in killing the force. All she wanted was to prove both Jedi and Sith wrong, since both factions betrayed her. This is why she gets angry when you either act as a complete edgelord or as a saint.
Justin Hill
Revan, Avellone said so himself.
Carson Brown
Revan is canonically light side right? Is there a canon for Exile being light side or dark side? Did they ever explain why it was kriea who had the bond with the Exile and not someone else
Matthew Price
it's great imo, but drags on way too long. keira is a cunt.
Ethan Murphy
Didn't she say she hated that the world was manipulated by the will of the force and wanted to destroy it so life would have free will?
Robert Cox
Well Vrook was and he's a total asshole but I love him Not!Yoda just thought it was neat
Austin Baker
Nar Shaada being long is a good thing. It's by far the best planet of the game.
Jeremiah Butler
The real disappointment is how they wasted the coolest looking character in the game >No proper introduction. >Lousy and short boss battle. >Doesn't speak a word >Much less have an epic deep voice
Elijah Lee
Yeah its weird how they hyped the SHIT out of Revan in their game whereas he's just kinda a Jedi general strong in the force who won the Mandalorian Wars that no one elaborates on in his own game
Carson Gomez
What exactly was he species wise? He was a pretty big guy
Christian Lopez
Yeah she hates the force and the fact that it has a will, but she still uses the force to her own advantage. Killing the force would mean destroying all life and she doesn't want that.
Logan Bennett
That's the thing, Revan wasn't a meme tier worshipped character within the fanbase untill kotor 2 came out and Avellone gave his twist on him/his behavior during the jedi civil war and the mandalorian wars.
Isaac Gonzalez
If you didn't play it with the unofficial patch then your opinions are meaningless. It turns the game from a 7/10 into a 9/10. It's closer to the original vision Obsidian had.
Owen Evans
Avellone damn near fleshed out the whole Kotor setting though Mandalorians got a huge fluff boost rather than being kinda evil goons
Charles Taylor
For you maybe; he was human.
Adrian Bennett
Kreia did not want to destroy the Force. This is just part of her ruse to have you follow her to Telos and Malachor IV, wipe out the Sith and prepare you for her final test to ensure you have what it takes to follow Revan into the Unknown Regions to battle the True Sith.
Connor Moore
The Exile's wound was a result of him having a fuckload of force bonds all severed at once when he nuked most of his troops at Malachor
Nolan Moore
>Be hardass veteran of the jedi civil war >Such a fucking badass that the Jedi had to cut you off from the force. >Thats fine, I don't need that shit anyway. Go on to live my life >Suddenly Peragus >Some old cunt starts talking to me like I'm her Padawan >Tell her to fuck off >She tells me to leave her at the ship if I dont want her advice >Do so >BITCH STARTS SPEAKING INTO MY MIND WITH HER NONSENSE >Thinks the fact that she worked with Reven entitles her to treat everyone like a child.
Kreia was literally the worst part of the game.
Levi Morgan
Tthe exile had the "ability" to completly destroy the force, Revan was a very proficient user of it.
Aiden Lee
But he's fucking huge
James Peterson
She wants to form a new order that is not under the influence of the Force's will, not actually destroy it That's why she tries to train you without having you rely on the teachings of the order or the Sith
Julian Rodriguez
The mystery is part of what makes him great. His cameos in other Star Wars media were always a treat too.
Caleb Rodriguez
He's improved by the patch. I always liked how he is described as less a man and more of an offscreen force of nature. He's strengthened considerably in his fight. Now sacrificing Visas to weaken him makes sense.
Elijah Gomez
What was your usual party set up anons?
James Ramirez
Atton and Mandalore, sometimes Visas.
Robert Morris
In my last playthrough it was Atton/Handmaiden both being melee fighters and me using blaster rifles
Isaac Jenkins
Man the Rule of Two retardation is only surpassed by the general retardation of the Sith themselves
Kevin Bell
This is how I always interpreted it. It's sad that these games always cajole you into one extreme or the other for dialogue options and to play out your role play alignment.
I would/will always align myself as a Gray Jedi if given the option.
Hudson Gomez
the two hot force user females. the rest are useless to me sexually.
Colton Gonzalez
Roleplaying gray is possible in KotOR 2. They even give you a robe.
Ethan Rivera
But not a Prestige Class Also the Grey Jedi Robe is just a gray skinned Master robe
Joseph Torres
At least it's named as being one. It makes the game more challenging going neutral, but that seems fitting considering you probably would be less powerful if you didn't fully embrace the dark or light.
Grey Jedi have always been underpowered.
Nathaniel King
They are both canon light side in the novel and in TOR
Carter Price
She's pretty much what I would expect from a haughty old semi-retired sith lord.
Wyatt Moore
>implying anything post Disney buyout is cannon
Josiah Hill
Isn't ToR still canon
Chase Parker
But both the novel and the Revan arc in TOR are pretty good.
Asher Sullivan
>Revan TOR arc >Good I wish
Alexander Baker
The novel is shitty at the end. Don't remember the rest besides The Exile geting completely shafted
Blake Turner
I'm a head canon fag now. Revan left to find the real sith, the Exile left in search of him and that's where their stories end. Eventually the Sith would come back, like they always do, implying Revan failed.
Josiah Jackson
Exile has the potential to become like Nihilus.
Evan Moore
Vanilla > Shadow of Revan
That whole 'Revans' now split into two beings twist' idea was just stupid.
Christian Butler
But that's exactly what happened in the book/game
Yhea, but they kinda had to kill off one of them and Revan is far more popular than the Exile
Extrapolate
Brody Jones
?????????? the game isnt linear you retard. you can and should pick nar shadda as the first planet
Dylan Scott
That whole expansion was bad. Nonsense story and tedious filler dungeons.
Julian King
You made a horrible mistake doing that. The game shipped unfinished. Obsidian was going to add the end content later but Lucas Arts cock blocked them on that. Probably Obsidian's fault too for not handling the project properly but at least the fans managed to pull through and finish it up for them.
Carson Jackson
you have no one else to blame but yourself
Joshua Long
He literally just becomes an existence that only exists to feed. His original consciousness barely even exist anymore, and the only capabilities he have anymore is really just the force, so when most of his capabilities were stripped when he tried to feed on the Exile, he just becomes a crippled fighter.
Blake Jackson
The battle system makes it hard to create some epic climactic duel because they all just end up the same. They made a decent attempt at it with Kreia and the lightsabers but that was it.
Luke Lee
Yeah, but the finer details are retarded.
Jack Allen
The multi floating lightsaber idea was pretty neato, would enjoy seeing that in motion in a cutscene or movie
Isaac Richardson
Eh the majority of the game was worse than the first, restored content or not. The quest lines were less interesting and the new characters were dull
Ayden Cruz
lol okay
Adrian Ortiz
Question.
When should I turn Atton, BD, Mira and Handmaiden into Jedi? I'd like to save all of their levels for Jedi abilities, but then I'd miss out on certain skills and class abilities.
Handmaiden I could turn immediately, but the others, I don't know. Plus, if I waited until level 10 or whatever, they'll only be half-Jedi with stumped force abilities and feats.
Fuck limited leveling and limited enemy NPCs.
On my first playthrough, I went to Nar Shaada last, because since it was always hyped as a mix between bloodthirsty crime-world and Jedi Auschwitz, I thought I was supposed to go there at the end.
Turns out, I fucked up. Guess it's supposed to be the second planet. But, to be fair, there are so many fights, especially ones with 10+ people attacking you alone at the same time, that you're forced to rely on upscale items and later force powers, how is a lwer level character supposed to do that all?
Lucas Russell
>tfw doing the Atton versus the Twi'lek twins while also trying to keep his level low for Jedi advancement.
At least you could hide behind the bar, and spam grenades til they died. At least I think that was the exploit.
Lincoln James
Theres also just planting mines all over the area beforehand if that didnt get fixed
Julian Cruz
I tried doing that atton fight legitimately for a good 15 minutes before I just did the bar trick
Evan Williams
I remember getting stuck on that fight years ago. Now every time I get to it it hasn't been too difficult.
Luke Allen
Atton was my favorite character to be honest, as he had a lot of interesting ideas, and subverted the idea he was just a Han Solo rippoff.
It's a shame that he was a character in a rpg sequel, as I would have liked a comic or book with him as the lead.
Easton Turner
yeah not sure why people like the game so much. the crafting system is tedious, heat/cold/electric, explosive/plasma weapons and armour are pointless, most of the force powers are either ridiculously overpowered or completely useless, and many of the party members are obsolete. I just used the zabrak guy and kreia and had no troubles. they should all have unique capabilities and the level should be solvable just as satisfactorily for every party configuration. there's so much rubbish that requires you to switch your team around or change your equipment so you can pass. that and the planets felt claustrophobic or shittily designed. The story is pretty good but this just doesn't work as a game.
Jonathan Wright
Yea im not sure why so many of the crafting mods and armor were 10% cold, heat, or electric resistance when it was so rare to encounter those. Also was there a point to armor? Robes were so much better just to exploit ridiculous dex bonuses for high def
Ian Bell
>mechanics, stats, gameplay, blah, blah.
Oh, I have no clue why a game all about the story and characters was underwhelming for you when all you seem to be able to talk about is the clunky Bioware RPG mechanics. Truly baffling, sir.
Juan Martin
What we got of Atton was perfect. We didn't need a story about his edgy escapades in the Sith military. He's perfectly written.
PURE PAZAAK
Nathan Foster
With how often combat happens in the game, the combat mechanics and balance between abilities is pretty important for replayability
Kevin Wood
i got a strange glitch where the twi'lek twins attacked each other and one was friendly to me.
it took a couple of saves to make sure the evil twin won and then i killed her.
