That's actually a really basic business concept.
Sometimes selling something at a loss generates sales that otherwise wouldn't have existed.
What's worse, making profit on something you sell, but selling small percentages of what you've already merchandised, or selling something at a loss but actually getting rid of all your stock, generated interest in further demand which can then be sold evenly or for profit once the prices of goods and merchandising is standardized?

Xbox doesn't need saving. Microsoft is one of the richest companies on the planet and they've made it clear they're committed to Xbox. Scorpio is just further proof that Microsoft is done trying to turn console gaming into a profitable business(which is what all the Xbox One initial plans were about) and just giving their fans what they want.
