No one would had played it because the short battery life.
Also music would be significantly worse.
You'd see people with batteries whenever they carried it around.
It wouldn't have been as popular, that's for sure. Pokemon needed long hours of play, yet the Game Gear ate batteries like candy.
>Throw a Pokeball
>Shake one
>Shake two
>Sha- battery dies
We would have gotten sun & moon type progression in the series years ago
It would have been panned and then instantly bombed in all territories, just like every other turd Sega has shat over the years.
What if you were raised by two dad's?
Shit music
It would be a forgotten Japan only game translated years later. And something better would have taken Pokemon's place and influence in the long run.
Damn. Now I wish that WOULD happen.
Will say this though, the Game Gear did feel super comfy. Felt way better than the Gameboy.
No one would trade Pokemon because everyone would play it at home with an AC adapter
it would be rad!
It would have been a Digimon level phenomenon instead of the best selling franchise in gaming history. Because it would have had Segas pathetic marketing behind it instead of the biggest marketing campaign for a game up to that time, which Nintendo put behind it.
Also, even with the highly unlikely probability that the series got huge, Sega would ave fucked it up with sequels. As they do for every one of their properties.
Totally!
>Because it would have had Segas pathetic marketing behind it instead of the biggest marketing campaign for a game up to that time
>SEGA
>Weak marketing
Not under Tom Kalinske
QUADRANTS OR TRUTH
Sega of America did more marketing than Sega of Japan. But it was more just general brand development. Not indavidual games. Your average Sega commercial was 'wow, look at all the games we have compared to Nintendo! And uh...SEGA!'
The idea that they would throw 150 million dollars behind advertising just one game would have been completely foreign to them. Hell, it was foreign to everyone except SquareEnix and Nintendo.
How would Bernie Stolar have reacted to Pokemon?
>Bernie: What is this trash? It would never take off anywhere scarp plans for it to come over! we're just gonna bring over more sports games because THAT's the future!
>Not indavidual games.
I literally just posted an image of a Sonic 2 advertisement, a game they went all out. Sonic 3 also had a humongous marketing campaign behind it. You'd have to be fucking stupid or underage to deny those two games weren't all over the fucking place.
Hell, SEGA only became a household name because of their marketing campaigns. Once they had a guaranteed hit with Sonic, they ran campaigns with that shit too.
If Pokemon under SEGA got the same treatment as Sonic, that shit would not be "pathetic".
TL;DR.
Wouldn't even bring it over and would insult the userbase wishing for it.
Only for Sega to later lose out on EA support for the Dreamcast.
So much for that strategy.
EA told sega they would make sports games for the dreamcast if they were the only company to do so but sega told them to fuck off because they acquired visual concepts before that.
>Buy a development team that specializes in sports games
>On the same day EA later went on to propose a deal about sports exclusivity for the Dreamcast
>Have no choice but tell them to piss off, otherwise you just wasted your investment
Classic SEGA
They lost it on saturn.
To be more specific on the saturn launch.
Thing was supposed to be released in november, but sega very retardely released it in june "in select stores", burning bridges forever with store chains and companies, including EA.
Sonic is really the only example you can make. But it still doesn't change my point. Sonic was on every single Sega commercial, magazine cover and box. It was the Sega brand.
They did go all out with Sonic. But that's also why they wouldn't have ever had the money to market Pokemon. Remember, this is a company that was losing money almost every year.
Pfft, screw Game Gear! What if Pokemon was for Saturn or Dreamcast?
HOL UP
are gen 7 mons on showdown already? or is this some specific tier that has them early?
>the world would have gotten into DQM instead of pokemon
A man can dream...
The same day? Shit, talk about bad timing.
>fuck yeah shin-
>battery dies
I'd like to have seen that. But sadly, DQMonsters wouldn't have taken off outside Japan because of zero marketing. Plus, Digimon would have been out years before.
I still have my old Game Gear, my uncle gave it to me as a gift when I was 6 or so.
The colors and graphics were great for the time it came out but the batteries on that thing are terrible. You need to replace the batteries every couple hours.
Most people who had one used a wall-charger instead of batteries because it cost so damn much to run.
Game Gear was dead as fuck by the time Pokemon was released.
It would have been about as popular as a game being released for Dreamcast in 2016.
Game Gear was dead on arrival. Sega just didn't acknowledge it until 3 years later.
Yeah, maybe.
I just fucking want Joker 3 Pro. FUCK YOU, SE.
I want all the DQ games too. Keep complaining, since that's what got them to bring over DQVII and VIII.
