Mirror's Edge Catalyst

Worth the $15? I really enjoyed the first one, played through it at least 4 times, I remember many people being unsatisfied with the new game though, was it really that bad?

not even worth a pirate

Is this just typical Sup Forums contrarianism, or is it really that bad?

I loved the first game mostly due to the visual style though, I'll admit even it was pretty damn mediocre story-wise, but the parkour was great.

bump

It takes Mirror's Edge 1's gameplay and dumbs it down. Just cogitate on that for a sec. It took the really nice simple gameplay of Mirror's Edge 1 and made it LESS complex.

Well then I guess I'm going to pass. Honestly, if it was $5.00 I would probably still buy it even if it's mediocre because I liked the first game so much. I still consider ME1 to be one of the best looking games ever made...

For example, Runner Vision is now literally just a floating breadcrumb trail so you don't have to think at all.

If you have an Xbox One, you can get EA Access for five bucks a month and play through the entire game. That's what I did earlier this month (while skipping the story because fuck the story) and I thought it was alright. The first is definitely better and a lot more focused but it's not bad. Really easy to see why it was forgotten so quickly.

...

The open world meme needs to die

You can toggle it so it's like the first game or completely off.

I think the game gets a lot of shit wrong (the story, the fucking talent tree bullshit, the hookshot shit, the changed combat, etc.) but doing the different time trials is still fun, there just doesn't seem to be a lot of them aside from player-created ones which are often just someone going "huh, what's this" and making a five second run. But yeah, I'd say $15 is on the top end of what I'd pay for it.

Kinda funny how everyone was saying Mirror's Edge should have been an open world game when the first one came out and now it comes out and the open world is just pointless. I thought the levels in the first game were great. They could maybe have been a bit "wider" and had even more options in places, but going full open world meme really wasn't necessary. Especially since main missions often take place outside the open world anyway. Just seems like wasted dev time.

I wonder though what people would have thought if Catalyst came out in like 2010 or something, if the open world would have been perceived differently before open worlds started being in every game.

wow it has a talent tree? guess they have to shove that into everything nowadays

Mirrors Edge was the first game with a female protagonists that I actually genuinely enjoyed.

And now this.

>he didn't play Beyond Good and Evil

>ubishit

How can developers think this okay? How can playtesters think this is fun?

didn't play the first Tomb Raider or Last Revelation?

>thinking pre-Asscreed Ubisoft is the same as post-Asscreed Ubisoft

Are you underage or something senpai?

I have not played Catalyst, but from what I've seen the visual style is terrible compared to the original

>paying $15 for this shit when it's on Access

>i've never played the game: the post

Of course I haven't played the game, it looks like shit, has no demo, I can't pirate it to try it for myself, and it's like $50.

So I just forgot about it mostly.

>Playing any Ubishit ever

They've always been trash.

I have played the game. How is it not dumbing down the game? It plays largely the same except they removed tricks like the strafing start, wallkick jumps, etc. and trivialized the combat into one button to do everything.

>piratefag lying about a game he can't pirate
well, color me surprised

>Tomb Raider
>Ubisoft

Oh. You're dumb then.

>strafing start, wallkick jumps
sounds like speedrun glitches from the first game. how the fuck is removing glitches = dumbing down?
>trivialized the combat into one button to do everything.
>he says this when the first game was literally press X to disarm
there's actually two attack buttons now. you can stop lying on the internet, user

>implying it hasn't been pirated weeks ago

I found it quite enjoyable
Running around the city is pretty fun once you know where everything is
The mission areas are a little weaker than in 1, but still decent
I'd say it's worth it

It's free on EA Access if you have it

Such a great channel. Though I would love to see a video where someone goes in depth of how both games did their visuals, because in my opinion, Catalyst looks worse.

It's okay.

GridNodes are the best part of the game. Other than that it's a whole bunch of trial and error, whittling down the paths that actually work vs. the dead-end shit, mashing through the mandatory combat sections and rerunning the Fragile Delivery missions because you fucked up a single landing. The visuals are about the same as the first game, the music is kinda just there but it works, the story is crap and the characters are either unlikable or dull.

A lot of people bitched about the whole "hiding movement techniques behind a skill tree" thing, but truth be told you unlock pretty much everything you had in the first game within 20-30 minutes, and beyond that you get a contextual grappling hook that doubles as a hitch for pulling down walls.

This. Memes aside if you aren't autistic about giving EA money I think Access is worth it.

>tfw Battlefront's coming soon so I finally get to try it
I know it's gonna be shit but it's worth a few hours of entertainment.

This game was released already?

>it's another "user pretends he didn't know catalyst was released" episode

Big fan of the original. Honestly did not know this was released.

I've found it pretty easy to avoid EA games since they stopped using Steam.

I rather like it. With runner's vision off, the gameplay's a lot better. My main love for it is the aesthetic.

but it did have a demo

Funny how a feminist was involved in this game, and yet they just gave her the skinny pants and made her even skinnier.

I think she looks hotter with that haircut.

she looks like a man

>You think you do, but you don't: the game
It should have been linear mission based
