bump

Because if you made a Star Trek game correctly every single unbearable underage little retard on Sup Forums would cry about it being SJW shit

Because Mass Effect was a big budget game, the Star Trek IP is expensive and not really a reliable market for a shooter.

That does make me wonder if there is an updated open source engine and upgraded graphics mods for that Quake 3 based Voyager FPS game.

Arguably there have been some very good Star Trek games made without the Star Trek license like FTL.

I think most of us would kill for this. Screw star citizen, I want crew interaction. FTL and Space Rogue are a great start, but there needs to be more than just endless random events.

Why would I bother playing a simulator of flying around in space shooting lasers and negotiating with aliens when I could just watch Picard & Co. do a better, more exciting job of it?

this explains away literally every video game ever you faggot

>implying they didn't make a game where you command a ship in sickass space battles, choose your crew, and go on adventures to different planets

Get on my level OP

This.

Try Space Nerds in Space. If you can get together 6 serious nerds in one room, each with a computer, then a TV and a router, it can be hella fun.

This. The first couple hours of FTL were the closest thing to star trek I ever played, then I kinda learned all the events that could happen and the atmosphere just disappeared. It was still fun tho, I have like 80 hours on that shit, always play it through coffee breaks.

I'm a coder with a bit of spare time, I could whip up some basic framework for a 2D game like FTL in couple months, i'm just not a designer. So what would it take for a game to have that star trek feel? How do you guys imagine it?

Wow you totally convinced me, well done.

Would you like a slice of sponge cake? I just brought some.

Nobody gives a shit about Star Trek outside of US

>why would I play Madden when I can just watch the NFL do it better?

>why play Fifa when I can watch the World Cup

>why play Red Orchestra 2 when I can just watch a WW2 documentary?

>why play a fighting game when I can just watch the UFC?

this is your own logic user

Why hasn't there been a Telltale Star Trek game?

Because even if the devs spent 20 years writing 10,000 different missions, people would bitch and say there wasn't enough content and everything was too similar.

please no

Star Control 2 is fun. No interaction with crew but a lot of interactions with other alien captains and leaders.

Doesn't have to be a shit ton of random missions. A focused storyline but with the focus on overall ship command and simulation with a crew instead of flying the ship itself like every other space game.

Because Star Trek, specifically TNG, is nerd shit and not "lol Im such a nerd xD!!!" shit

This game was pretty great.

Sequel is much better. Except for the complete lack of Redshirts to accidentally kill

>not A Final Unity

>So what would it take for a game to have that star trek feel? How do you guys imagine it?
A Star Trek game would require interesting events built around moral dilemmas and philosophical questions, a compelling and likable crew, and a strong atmosphere incorporating quality sound design.

This plays in the background any time you're on the ship: youtube.com/watch?v=6lJy70k-jFg

It would also require waifus.

I had that sound running ever since I found out it is available by default in Clementine alongside the classic "rain sound". I've been comfy as shit, "rain sounds" can go fuck themselves.

The heck is a Clementine

Neat. If only I listened to music enough to use it

It works nice for podcasts as well, they support a couple different sources, I like to listen to podcasts when doing some boring work.

>mfw just imagined if Disney bought out the rights to Star Trek

don't worry, they'd never go for it
not mainstream enough

I'm watching The next Generation now and just finished the episode where the ensign fell in love with a shapeshifter. So sad.

Isn't there a great Star Trek game that plays like Fallout by the way? I remember something top-down isometric from my teenage years.

Away Team?

The big problem is that getting the rights to anything Star Trek is expensive as fuck. It's an IP that has made fucktons of dosh if done right.

That said, the demographic for Star Trek is fairly old (if you grew up on TNG, you're pushing 30-40 now) which means not much time for vidya games. So there's a major demographic mismatch for IP interest.

Can I get a spinoff series of Garak and his time in the Obsidian Guard?

Thank you thats it.

LITERALLY watching that same episode now

>you will never live in a reality where religion has long been abandoned and humanity finally got their shit together

Been watching DS9, it's much better in season 5 or so when things actually start happening.

Mass Effect actually had action. A proper Star Trek game would be lots of pointless talking on ships with wooden characters followed by about thirty seconds of """""""""""""""""""""""action"""""""""""""""""""""""" so in all respects Mass Effect 1 is basically a marginally better Star Trek game.

>You get to command a ship, build your own crew, go on adventures to different planets and systems ect.
Star Trek Online is basically this with the advantage of actually getting to choose your own ship and crew instead of being stuck with a premade ship and a choice between premade crewmembers. Problem is they don't have the budget (or writing skill) to really pull it off.

>reality where religion has long been abandoned
>its a Bajor episode
>its a Kai Winn Bajor episode

Realistically it's probably that the people who manage Roddenberry's estate must demand too much in licensing fees for most video game publishers/developers to cough it up.

DS9 had the best vidyagaem

That's true even considering newtrek.

I don't know what they want to do with the new tv shows, but there hasn't been even a hint of that new frontier exploration stuff in the films. Current fans coming into it just want zero-g combat and planetary dives.

>lots of pointless talking on ships with wooden characters followed by about thirty seconds of """""""""""""""""""""""action""""""""""""""""""""""""
So.... Mass Effect then.

The Federation isn't a military body. Federation star ships are exploration/science/housing vessels mostly. They have more civilians in the ship than Federation crew. They have just ONE pure-combat vessel that are not fighters (Defiant-class) and there were only like three of those currently in existence (one got rekt.)
Federation starships for the most part are just science vessels that happen to carry enough weaponry to bring down most ships their size.

>so in all respects Mass Effect 1 is basically a marginally better Star Trek game.
How so? Its gameplay was clunky, characters were dull and plot was poor. Its entire narrative structure was the same as KOTOR. Don't even get me started on Paragon/Renegade.

Because ST is educational and about technobabble.

and hot alien sex

The closest I feel to Star Trek is FTL

If there was an FTL sort of game with better graphics and perhaps multiplayer so people could have different positions I'd cum buckets

TNG taught me that the indians are the most divine people in the universe, and that if you just yell loud enough, you can step outside of time and go on an adventure with space cochise.

star trek was the first show in america to show an interacial kiss scene

and they will be promptly be BTFO easily.

Space nerds in space. It's only local multi tho.

>that goo monster edge lord that kills Tasha for no reason

what a prick.

That was kind of the point of the character

you will never have Q powers

glad she's gone, crosby was a pretty poor actress

That's some pretty radical music you get to listen to just for running around the Promenade.

I'm glad she died sho she could make the awesome cameos she made later in the series.

Also, it made room for Worf who has the most amazing character progression of any character ever in Star Trek.

Yeah, after they killed her off and brought back her daughter as a Romulan I think they regretted getting rid of her the way they did and thought it would have been better if she'd been a Romulan from the start. Which led to that Cardassian/Bajoran character on Voyager.

Honestly, being a Q doesn't seem all that great.

You have nowhere to go but down, and most attempts to entertain yourself get you smacked down by crabbucket non-interferists who insist you just be bored for eternity with the rest of them.

Crosby wanted off the show, then regretted it when TNG became a big hit

Crosby's Romulan character was so bad I almost wanted to skip the episodes with her in it.

Yeah, most shows now make better plans for characters if something like that happens. I know JMS actually talked about having plans made for every character on B5, some of which they actually had to use and that led to major changes to the show.

I think some have even gone to the extent of having both good ends and bad ends planned if somebody has to leave under friendly or tragic circumstances (to give them a nice send off), or if the writers want to axe a character because the actor is a dick (they die a horrible death).

Couldn't really blame her for that. She went into it with her biggest claim to fame, being the c-list actress daughter of a famous crooner, with her own naked feature in playboy.

Then the show went out of its way every episode to have her say something about "WHEN I WAS RUNNING AWAY FROM THE RAPE GANGS...."

It probably seemed like a great chance until she actually saw what the writers wanted for her character.

I forgot about the rape gangs

With a cameltoe like that who can blame them

I'm watching TNG for the first time, up to season 6, probably my favorite show now, and wew lad mass effect ripped off this shit hard

There's a ton of TNG episodes that I have to do it with. Honestly people are really nostalgic for it but watch it with the rose colored glasses off and its almost down at Voyager levels.

>naked feature in playboy
holy shit I can't believe I didn't know that

youtube.com/watch?v=p7jbP1_H9sA

Where's the one with the titties?

>the c-list actress daughter of a famous crooner
Wait, she's actually the daughter of Bing?

I can understand if you'd say that about S1 or S2, but the cheesier episodes are still enjoyable for me. It's kinda magical.

>Beverly Family Rape Ghost

Actually, I rescind what I said, I just remembered all the episodes with Troi's mom. Instant skip.

Because despite what Patrick Stewart wants to think, Star Trek is less of an action series.

Granddaughter. I misstated. It wasthe next generation.

WTF, she was the best part.

Plus she's actually in every episode.

Man I've been watching TNG lately. Still a fucking awesome show to watch along with the original Star Trek. Both the original and TNG are literally God Tier.

you could see her hard nips when she was ln sick bay.

TELL THAT TO STARSHIP MINE

Troi's mother is in every episode?

It's actually probably easier to list off the TOS and TNG actresses who didn't have their tits out at one point.

Before TNG, Marina Sirtis was best known for getting tied up and raped in a bunch of "we're not porn guys, really, it's just acting" movies.

Your TNG movies are garbage.

Yes, even First Contact is bad.

>he hasn't watched DS9

...

Thumbnail legit looks like a spurdo Geordi La Forge with a shit-eating grin, ugh.

Every episode she wears that blue dress, I lose track of the show and just start thinking of rape, so it's like she never stopped.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Majel_Barrett

Nurse Chapel in the original series, and the computer voice.

I need to watch DS9. Based Michael Dorn returns as Worf in that show from what I heard.

How many trekfus would be ideal for a Star Trek video game?

It's the series that treated Worf with respect.

Because he demanded it in his contract

First couple of seasons are kinda rough (though if you like O'Brein its easy to pull through), then it starts to pick up 3rd season or so. Then Worf gets there and shit gets GOOD.

...Then it kinda peters out towards the end.

More importantly Chief O'brien finally gets a chance to do something other than stand around in the transporter room.

Also, I'm watching the remastered episodes. Now I know why Beverly wears that coat.

I still think it's fucking weird that after Kirk and Riker, Worf became the heir of the pussyhound throne.
