Will humanity ever again invent a game with such a beautiful and elegant complexity as chess?

Yeah it's called Dota.

As soon as Chess 2 gets made.

>Complexity

It's just autistic build order shit like any other RTS game

its called Go

Fuck chess they shitted it up with that stupid fucking expansion.
>HUUURR DUUR WE GOT A WOMAN MONARCH SO LETS ADD AN SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE PIECE THAT CAN DO ANYTHING DUUUUURRR
>OH THAT RUINS THE BALANCE? WELL LETS MAKE ALL THE PAWNS ABLE TO BECOME THAT PIECE EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE MEN!

Chess 2:The Sequel already exist. David Sirlin naturally was able to improve chess and mold it into it's ultimate form.

Go makes every other game seem pointless because we've already got perfection.

Enjoy your forced meta LoL-Chess while we're over here playing Dota-Go.

As a game Chess is pretty broken. Over half of all matches played at a "grand master" level end in draws.

mahjong

This.

Chess has a couple major flaws that Chess 2 gets rid of.

Chess 2 is actually a really fantastic game.

TFW Gungi doesn't exist

someone post the combining pawns webm

>writes "tfw" in capital letters
Why are you even here

first post, best post

He's probably from /vg/

It's time to go.

>caring about the lore
It was shit from the start.

underageb& detected. that piece was originally the dragon piece, until waifufags had to ruin it with tits

>computers can beat the best human player at Chess
>computers can beat the best human player at Go
>computers can't even beat an average player at Civ 5
>brainlets genuinely think Chess and Go are intellectually stimulating games

Shogi

interesting question. video games like dota are constantly being patched, but 'traditional' board games like chess and sports like soccer have the same ruleset for years.

tech is too ephemeral for a video game to have lasting appeal, i think. hardware is constantly changing and emulation is never 100% accurate.

I mean, modern Fire Emblem games are just advanced chess, so that's something.

but being good at civ 5 is mostly a matter of extreme autism and highly repetitive abuse of the game's many flaws arising from its poorly-conceived "complexity"

Maybe not humanity.

That's because people who actually do things like programming instead of playing Steam sale games all day long like you care about dogshit games like Civ 5

Yes they do.

youtube.com/watch?v=0RHLtx9r2LA
Beautiful?
Elegant?
Think again.

Of course it will be good at chess, it's about repeating patterns, program some into the computer and there's no way anyone could beat it without knowing how to counter all of them.

Man i loved pick up sticks

How the fuck has no one said tetris? Trades the complexity for elegant simplicity.

>tfw the letdown that was Ch3ss
I have faith the reboot will fix it, though

Tetris

>implying tits make anything worse

why didn't they just make it a dragon with tits
then everyone wins

they sure didn't make your dad better

This guy gets it.

>>brainlets

>>computers can beat the best human player at Go
lolwut? You need to cite that shit, because it smells of bull.

I came here to say this comes closest, but The Tetris Company have thoroughly fucked Pajitnov's original ruleset to the point where the game is pointless garbage now.

If the rules had been left unchanged in even a single game mode in every iteration until now, it'd be the clear winner. But the licenseholders destroyed it.

that's not a real dragon

Warhammer 40k

God Shogi is so fucking weird. I tried it out in Yakuza 5 and apparently it was like chess so I thought I could do alright. I have literally never felt a sensation of half knowing what I was doing and half bullshitting in my entire life.

There were some big advancements in the last few months. It made headlines when a recent AI beat some high level go player, and I think more recently it beat some of the best.

lead with the king and you'll do fine

nice

No, I don't think you understand. It's REAL

Call me when Chess: CHESS comes out

He's the very best player in the world not just one of the best. A few players are currently ahead of him in points, but something something it has that weird point system like chess where it's fucking seasonal or whatever.

His merits are those of the best go player in the world however, some south korean dude.

The original is still at that level though, so who gives a fuck.

>Unbalanced towards whites
>AI has been able to play at competitive level for over a decade now, showing the lack of complexity
>Game is almost solved

What is so elegant and complex about it?

scientificamerican.com/article/computer-beats-go-champion-for-first-time/

scientificamerican.com/article/how-the-computer-beat-the-go-master/

I can't stress enough that these matches were close as fuck. Like, I hardly know shit about Go and could tell that each game felt like neither of them had a strong advantage. That, and the Go player isn't THE world's number 1, and apparently the gap between him and the actual top spot is a 'life time's worth of experience.'

But it's a victory against a Go champion, which basically everyone thought was a few more years out to be achieved by using more sheer muscle rather than the learning system they used.

>ywn make a living placing black and white beans on a waffle while calling yourself a professional

I want to get into chess, what's the best chess videogame for that purpose?

>not Chess 2: Electric Boogaloo

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AlphaGo_versus_Lee_Sedol
AlphaGo actually beat the world's No. 1 Go player

Internet Checkers, win7 exclusive

Just go to lichess.org, do the tutorials and a few puzzles before getting rekt online by other people in quickplay

How kind of our machine overlords to play our petty games

Chess has long been figured out unlike the current games that we have today

mahjong > chess

What possesses a man to post such obvious bait? What do you get from inciting shit threads?

>Unlike the FGC, the [Smash] community is respectable and well loved.
hahahahaha.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Chess is challenging because your opponent is good.

Fire Emblem is challenging because of RNG and the game being intentionally made to be bullshit and unfair with save scumming acknowledged and viewed as standard and required by the developers. The games actively try to trick players into trap choices that can make the games unwinnable.

How is Fire Emblem "advanced chess"?

Lee Se'dol hasn't been #1 since Sept 2011. Ke Jie is #1 and is actually quite a bit ahead of Se'dol.

>
pokemon Go?

I followed Chess 2 in its early days. I'm really curious about what pro chess players would think of it. Have any reviewed or analyzed it?

Would you Shogi, Japanese chess.

Now I sort of want to see chess as an SRPG

What's the difference

I've played it.
It's hard as fuck.

I kind of agree with the Smash vs FG communities.
I've been in both, and Smashers are incredibly friendly compared to the FGC.
FGC smelled better though.

>and is actually quite a bit ahead of Se'dol.
Stop saying things you don't have a clue about son

The computer won by going all in on early game strategies, when total number of moves is limited

I doubt it would win a game if you just let it take over a match half way done.

FITE ME 1V1 FAGS

>loss

you've been here way too long i don't see it

I'M CANCELLING THE MATCH IF NO ONE ACCEPTS IN 3 MINUTES I HAVE A TEST TOMORROW AND I HAVE TO STUDY

>A game that's impossible to balance perfectly.
>Some faggot things that's elegant.

>He didn't play Ants In The Pants as a kid.

hahaha xD dota is so imbalanced its always the same hero/stratergy that is used.

reminder that there ARE good generals on /vg/

if the generals you visit are shit then that's just a reflection of the game tbqhwyf

>tbqhwyf
Kill yourself

It's the last panel

the bottom part of the board looks like the bed, the top part looks like his weirdly misshapen head looming over it

supcom is best RTS because it manages to have both the incredible reaction time aspect of the genre without sacrificing the strategy

I recently started playing go but I'm atrocious
How do I git gud, just play?

Chess is shit

t. Bobby Fischer

dota was ruined years ago, 6,83 was the first truly negative patch, it has only gone downhill from there
"""icefrog""" or whoever balances the game now doesn't give a fuck about the game itself, they're trying to appeal to a more casual audience by gutting the game and ruining everything about it that made it good

When the Indians stop shitting on streets they will churn out something better than chess. Just you wait.

Complexity, please. It has rules as complex as the average jrpg which suffice to say isnt very much

The Go player beat the computer back in the rematch.

I doubt they'll even bother after Chess (2015)

>Chess
>Balanced
whites op pls nerf

That doesn't matter, what matters is that a task thought to be too complex for an AI to be able to complete was actually completed.

>using a kotaku quote to promote your game
