Was 2016 the worst year for video games?

Was 2016 the worst year for video games?

No, this was.

*unzips dick*

Better than 2015.

Just a bad year in general
However:
It's the calm before the storm

It hasn't been the worst, or anywhere close honestly. I think there's been a good number of releases this year. It could've been better for sure, but I wouldn't call it terrible.

Every major game was a sequel or remake except for overwatch and the indie games were pretty meh this year.

> january thru march is nothing but decent to quality gamu
> we still dont know south park tfbw official release date
its gonna be a decent gameing year thank kek

this is the storm

Idk but the first 2 months of 2017 look way better than all of 2016 so far.

No, this year had a ton of great games.
2015 on the other hand barely had anything worthwhile.

I think people here just don't like video games anymore. There were good releases this year. It's way better than 2012 or 2013.

I enjoyed Grim Dawn, Darkest Dungeon, Overwatch and DOOM. Also I think GoW 4 was okay and I'm waiting for Dishonored 2 to get patched to see if it's worth the buy.

Overall not a bad year but we're far from 2010.

There are literally no games worth playing this year.

Prove me wrong.

...

Every year is the worst year for the thing you enjoy, and the best times are the furthest times you can remember from now.

>2011 not being the worst year

I was gonna make a post about it barely even being 2016 but then I remembered it's almost fucking December.

>dark soul
>deus ex HR
>portal 2
>dead space 2

>haven't bought a single fucking game in 2016
>still playing Rocket League every fucking day for 4+ hours

It's a very sad statement for the game industry when a fucking 15 bucks car soccer game delivers more entertainment than their 60 dollar cinematic expierences.

you fucking faggots say this every year

le wrong generation amiright?? xD

It was more shit than good. We got good stuff occasionally like DOOM but every month was pretty much garbage including:

Overwatch
Mirror's Edge
Federation Force
Street Fighter V
Shitty Bioshock remasters
No Man's Sky
KOF XIV
Umbrella Corps
Recore
And a bunch of VR shit

>What is 2014
>What is 2011
>What is 2007

Every year since the 7th console gen was released has been worse than the previous one. 2017 will be worse than 2016 and 2018 will be worse than 2017.

And it's only possible because people like you keep buying shit from the same companies every year.

this, too many sequals

But pic related came out this year.

Im finding more enjoyment and unique experiences in fucking F2P MMOs than most $60 games

>Bannerlord delayed
>Yooka-Laylee delayed
>A Hat in Time delayed
>Bloodstained not before 2018

Technically I got Persona 5 and Berserk Musou this year and would consider both good. Too bad everybody that can't decipher the runes has to wait until next year.

Literally me

No retard.
It's actually been a couple years since I played a new videogame but this year was way better than 2014 or 2015.

>Just a bad year in general
What are you talking about.
It's been an amazing year in general.

>Revelator
>KOF 14
>Central Fiction
>SF 5

It's a golden age for fighters at least.

>No 3D platformers
>No (good) JRPGs
>No (non-dudebro) TPS
Every year since 2009.

What makes you think this isn't the storm?

>four games
>not all of them are even good
>golden age
What the fuck?

Fighting games in the same series don't come out every year user, aside from ASW games. There was an almost decade long gap between sf3 third strike and sf 4. Plus we managed to get guilty gear and kof back, blazblue became it's own thing, and tekken 7 is in the pipeline. So I'm glad that we get multiple series in such a short span of time.

I've personally really enjoyed a lot of games this year.

>forgetting 2012, which was so bad that most people had the first season of Telltale's Walking Dead series as GotY

I wish I was wealthy enough to buy all the vidya I want to play.

It's cute that you think I didn't pirate anything on that list

> game that put guts on the boat for 20 years
> best

Nah, 2016 has been okay. Not great but not terrible.

2014 is still the worst vidya year of the modern era and it's not even close. There wasn't a single iconic game in the entire lineup. At least 2016 has Overwatch.

Kirby

The list is ok, but why did you dislike Zero Time Dilemma?

Inconsistent characterization for returning characters, Phi and Sigma accomplishing virtually nothing in most "routes" despite VLR's entire point being them getting trained to save the day, the alien teleportation device is both the single most severe and stupidest asspull in the trilogy, Team Q didn't have a single interesting scene besides the reveal, Mira's heel-face turn came out of nowhere and was ridiculous, it retconned the bonus ending of VLR, and the True Ending was godawful and failed to adequately resolve most of the plot threads I cared about. Also, the puzzles weren't very good and the animation in the cinematic scenes sucked.

I don't think it "ruined" the previous games like some drama queens do, but I still found it to be utter shit.

Nah it had some pretty good games.

Yeah you're right. I guess I just forced myself to ignore all that crap.
Thanks for your answer.

Recolove's decent
I think I still like Photokano better though

shit weeb taste

Post your list then.

DS3 I guess? But I was so burned out after BB that I still haven't gone past cathedral of the deep.

I wanna play that Shiren game but I heard it's soulcrushingly hard, even for a Mystery Dungeon game.

>Darkest Dungeon that low
>All that weeb shit at the top
opinion discarded

>sad pathetic shitters who spend all year shitposting on Sup Forums pretends everyone else in the world has a life as terrible as their own
>THIS YEAR WAS SO SHIT AMIRIGHTUGUISE XDD!111111
kill yourself, do the world a favor, you're literally a cancer at this point, latching onto a hobby you never enjoyed in the first place

It is, but it's worth it. It's really fucking good.

DD just ain't my jam famalam

No good mech games came out this year.

Titanfall Two?

I'm playing Cold Steel 2 right now though it's pretty dope.

Titanfall 2, Brigador, and multiple Gundam games came out.

>titanfall
>mechs

I remember more interesting games released in 2016 than I do with 2015, 2014 and maybe even 2013 combined.

Don't really know how can anyone complain about 2016 when 2011 has yet to be wiped by time travelers from history.

No, but it was the worst year of your life.

Nope
1982 is still the worst year with the exact day being May 27

Why?

Well yeah, 2016 was going to be the best year for open world games or whatever but all of them get delayed

What anime is that character btw?

Founding of Electronic Arts

hey what doesnt kill you makes you stronger. if this shit is the worst it can get i will survive maybe 20 more years

Its all downhill from here, and we've been falling for quite a while now.

G-god, I want to lick her soles...

Tfw I am wealthy enough to buy all vidya I want to play but don't have the time to play all of them

They lied to you. There is no strenght in suffering, just humiliation.

It wasn't a bad year for vidya, but it was a pretty shit year overall.

Amplitude
Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth
Kirby: Planet Robobot
Project Diva Future Tone (and X I guess)
Thumper
Ratchet & Clank
Zero Time Dilemma
Dishonored 2
Dark Souls III
Uncharted 4
Pokémon Sun/Moon
The Last Guardian's coming out
We'll see how FFXV is

Pretty good year for me at least

It's been quite a few years since I last had so many games that I wanted to play, much less enjoyed.

Bummer that Gravity Rush 2 and Kingdom Hearts 2.8 got delayed into 2017, but all that really means is that 2017 gets a good start.

don´t think like that you´ll end up not doing shit or committing suicide

If I wasn't a coward I would do it now.
It's a far more sensible idea than the alternatives.

apparently people still have no idea what "weebshit" means.

...

The fact that this game out convinces me than I'm on the alternate timeline from reality now.

If that was your case, it's because you let this cesspool tell you how you need to enjoy your hobby

The greatest game of all time came out this year, Jonathon Blow's The Witness.
>just mobile puzzles on a useless world
That one criticism is enough to cut your possible iq range down to 110 or less.
None of you got it, that's the problem. You're all too stupid.
In a few hundred years, students in history and art classes the world over will hear about DaVinci, Picasso, Monet, and Jon Blow.

This year has nothing on 2014.

2014 was the WORST year for vidya in quite a while.

Prove me wrong.

>2007
>bad
that's how you know a parroting memer

from worst

2014>2013>2015>2016

I feel dead inside already my man, and I kinda like it.

How the fuck do you have enough time to play all of these games?

Or maybe that's the wrong question. Do you just not have anything else that takes your attention regularly?

>it's not bad, you just don't get it
I don't care one way or the other about The Witness but you really need to stop being such a pretentious fuck.

We all are thanks God

What's wrong with Fates? I decided not to get it because I don't want to support Nintendo's two release/special edition bullshit but it'd be nice to know I'm not missing out on anything

I've got two hours of commute a day to get to college and spend it all playing vidya, and only work part-time.

I also just have no backlog at all, so every game I play is usually a relatively new release.
Fucking awful writing, a terrible cast, no difficulty on 2/3 routes at all, and the unit balance is shit.

And I say that as someone who enjoyed Awakening.

Nope, it was bad.

>Needs several hundred line puzzles and a virtual island to tell people that perspective affects perception.

Woah deep.

>switch release

come on you don't believe that thing to actually sell do you, there's scorpio coming immediately after what you think people will choose between a mobile 720p phone wannabe and a 4K 60fps monster?

Normies will choose the Switch while the dudebros will get the Scorpio.

>I've got two hours of commute a day to get to college and spend it all playing vidya
Sup Forums I just want to know. I really want to know. Why is there such a high concentration of college kids here. The site's been up since 2003 and it's only 18+ allowed. Does there just happen to be more college kids or early 20 year olds in the world? That doesn't make sense when the average gamer age is 30. I'm 32. Am I really that much of an outlier? I'm curious because this is getting really unsettling seeing how many people on this site are 10 years younger than me.

>thinking the fucking scorpio will sell
If anything, Nintendo has shown that they're able to sell handheld consoles. The switch is just a handheld with an HDMI port.

>he thinks 2007 was good

Normies will choose tablets and smart phones.

Average people will not buy the Switch because it looks ugly and cheap as fuck.

Dedicated gaming devices are dying. And if someone cares enough about a dedicated gaming device they already bought an xbox or a ps4 to play call of duty, battlefield, fifa, and madden.

Why would they buy another device 3 years later without an upgrade plan like their phone?

It was interesting for sure.
We saw Crysis, the peak of graphical power.
We saw CoD 4, the end of innovation in FPS.

>The site's been up since 2003 and it's only 18+ allowed.
>he thinks this keeps underaged from coming to Sup Forums
Nig I've been here since I was like 14, I'm 23 now.

Guarantee you right now on this board, maybe in this thread even, there's an underageb&

>the average gamer is 30
You know how averages work, right?
Perhaps you're thinking of the mode.

>Am I really that much of an outlier?
If you go into any thread running a census on the board's users, you will likely find most answers ranging from 18-25. Anything higher comes in significantly smaller numbers.

I would say this is Sup Forums's core age demographic, and as long as I've been here, this hasn't changed once.

>Mobile gaming is still shit even after 8+ years
When will it start being good?
