What is the appeal of the MOBA genre?
What is the appeal of the MOBA genre?
They're fun.
Character progression and match ups.
kids/manchildren
nearly all my friends that play MOBA games are virgins and dumb,i'm not even kidding
MOBA is a dumbed down RTS
Self hate
Highly accessible gameplay
F2P with MTX
Ease of creating new content
E-celeb culture
ruining friendships
MOBA is for intelectuel men.
The thingking men's genre.
The game made for them who have IQs numbering in the 3 digits.
/thread
I wish I never started playing and find myself asking why I still play.
HAHAHA no. get out.
Honestly I only like to play Smite, it's fun at times when you don't have a drop out at the start of the match.
>projecting
Explain why.
Randomness.
Character progression.
Grinding items.
Don't let they tell you otherwise, if you took these elements out moba fans would stop playing them.
deep systems to memorize and apply
timesink for the lonely and miserable
extreme emotional lows and highs
easy game to play with friends
Learn how to spell first retard
if bunch of 12 year old kids can get into it, it´s classically known as the dumb pleb´s choice over starcraft 2, and it requires you only to click stuff as if you were grinding farmville, while having one of the most toxic pathetic playerbases ever you can do the math.
LoL players couldnt get into Harvard. They couldnt rock a chess game. They couldnt innovate with science. Instead they where watching virtual miniatyres do little damage to virtual pixels in a VERY CASUAL shithole.
You just buy the OP shit, meta harder with better timing and woah its suddenly all wins. Literally a P2W game for kids and idiots. Now get angry, you´ve been Trolled :^) U MAD
Over 1500 hours into Dota 2.
Gambling your time in hopes of something funny (ranging from an astronomical fuckup from someone to a decent stomp on your side where you click mans and the die) happening with little effort from you, the player.
Bellona might be the cutest bloodthirsty warrior ever created.
Shame due to her personality 90% of her porn is fucking futa.
user you shouldn't be projecting THIS hard.
Skill-based competition. Feels good to be actively improving at something and having a challenge.
Not as brainless as fps, not as autistic as RTS.
Its a hard game and it's a challenge to play well. Makes it fun for intelligent people.
>dumb pleb´s choice over starcraft 2
I played starcraft when I was 10, what now?
>it requires you only to click stuff as if you were grinding farmville
pussy jobs friends a future
>starcraft 2
Oh jeez famalam, mind atleast listing some actual games for actual smart people and not the first thing from the "o look gaiz i'm 2 smrt for mowbaz" collection.
you'll never get into harvard with that attitude user
Did you beat any player that didn't disconnect and wasn't one of your equally retarded friends which pretended to play SimCity and took 3 hours to max popcap?
I first started playing Dota 2 because I didn't have anything else to do. That's the appeal. MOBAs are the kind of game that suck the life out of you and you won't even notice. And after 3000 hours I feel dumber, angrier and overall a worse person than when I started.
I recommend not playing this game, nor any other MOBA or game that exchanges fun for 'competitive gameplay'.
It's fun
Play is pretty different from "do well on" Thats my point.
But no for starcraft, TA was more my thing back in the day. Dad had lan parties and I'd play with a bunch of his friends.
infinite replayability and almost limitless skill ceiling
smart game for smart people
just like bioshock infinite
I play Dota 2 a lot but I shill against it and ASSFAGGOTS in general when Sup Forums threads about them pop up.
Fuck off, we're full.
DotA isn't your average moba.
People like LoL because it's fun with friends, kills time, runs on toasters, is noob friendly, and once you get gold or higher, skill level improves a lot.
DotA on the other hand is more than a moba, it's more than a game. It's just addictive. It's like meth or an abusing relationship.
No matter what happens, you cannot remove that urge to just play one more game, improve your tactics, learn match ups, etc...
That's why you either have people who played 3h and just quit, and everyone else has 1k-30k hours.
>dice rolls
>skill based
I forgot, for mobafags "luck is also a skill"
Depending on the RTS you're play they have "dice rolls" to.
In any medium of competitiveness their going to be varying degrees of luck, part of being successfully is chance management really in any medium.
I've played dota on and off for a while and have around 500 hours in.
I have a hard time sticking to games though.
>easy to pick up, difficult to master
>thousands of way to play the game (different heroes, each hero has different play style, roles, builds)
>thrill of outplaying your opponent is more satisfying in MOBA's than it is in other multiplayer games
>psychological pressure you can apply on the enemy through skill
>you know and understand your enemy after staying in lane with them for 10 to 20 minutes (unlike fps where you either pop them or they do)
>knowing exactly how an enemy killed you (unlike fps where you can get shot in the back with no counter play)
What about Go?
99 in 4
I didn't know Go was an RTS. Consider myself convinced.
>>dice rolls
Literally how? Name one thing RNG related in LoL or DotA
Even if you suck you win 50% of you games and that makes you feel all good inside.
Boards, such as chest, go, and checkers even are probably the exception to this do to their simplicity note not simple to master, just simple in concept. The more complex something is, the more unaccounted factors end up in, the more "luck" based it is.
Chaos Knight
I play just for the joy of killing heros and split pushing
>can't see the sarcasm
Your IQ isn't in the 3 digits, is it user?
>>thrill of outplaying your opponent is more satisfying in MOBA's than it is in other multiplayer games
wowo i have more imaginary money than you do such outskill lmao git gud scrub :laughing_crying_face:
The fucking state of this post, holy fuck.
>he can't dodge skill shots and land his own on an enemy that out levels him
git gud
I like the characters
dota is anything but fun
t. 6k mmr
i hate this game
and i hate playing this game
and i hate everyone who plays thsi game
fuck
>MOBA genre
FRAGGIN' NOOBS, BRAH
Its fun with friends
and because most games last close to 1 hour its great to play in quick bursts just once or twice a day
atleast thats why i like it
>tfw to smart to play anything but MOBA'S
See you tomorrow.
You mean the fast traveling projectiles with oversized hitboxes launched against slow moving targets?
MOBAs are mechanically degenerate games. Dotards accept this and compensate in other fields, LeL is in denial.
For me it's:
1. When you successfully drag 4 shitters kicking and screaming to victory
2. When you successfully coordinate beatifully with 4 other players to a win
The cost comes at wanting to blow your fucking brains out when none of these 2 happen
>Win game 'cause you have mad anti-push so the enemy can't actually finish and eventually fuck up
this game is like hard drugs.
90% of the games are pure unfun shit.
you either get competently stomped because of retarded teamates, get carried really hard by someone while doing nothing, carry shitters because the other team is really bad where in all cases its not fun.
but those games where everyone is decent or above, where people actually play the objective stack/pull gather smoke gank and the other team does the same, where the fights are extremely close and not one sided always keep you coming back.
even though its like 1 game out 10.
This.
I stopped playing DotA around the time LoL and HoN was getting popular for this very reason.
DotA is great if you have a team and play against other teams.
>gets shit on
>"unfair mechanics"
Failure mentality user, you shouldn't give up too easily.
Team based action RPGs with loads of variety.
>loads of variety
Unless you're playing LeL
No, they're not unfair, they're simply easy.
By the way, I forgot to mention that the "skill"shots are launched on a 2d plane while FPSes since 1995 are in 3d, meaning real FPSes are literally AN ORDER OF MAGNITUDE more complex and difficult.
What a fucking idiot.
Skillshots are like 0.1% of the complexity of Dota.
Memorize 400 spells in their 4 varying levels of power, then memorize the stats of 100 heroes and the effect of 100 items at the 25 different levels of each and you'll roughly know 0.1% of the game, because then for each case you need to know the team composition, counter and matchups.
Literally no human in the universe can master Dota completely.
Add yearly patches and the human factor and it becomes undeniable that it's one of the most complex games in human history.
Moba's are only fun with friends or team to play. The only time I ever play dota is at my friends house on his extra computer.
I tried playing by myself and it just made me hate dota more
Main appeals of RTS without the need to micro or learn build orders.
>factorials are the most advanced thing in the universe guys
In that case No Man's Sky>MOBAs
ARTS is RTS for non-autists
But the main appeal of RTS is base building.
>MOBA playerbases
>not autistic as fuck
lmao
Sorry, should've specified: Non-autists by comparison
In No Man's Sky they literally don't matter.
In Dota literally every single one of those millions of combinations has a radically different outcome, and you're against humans that exploit them against you.
I don't know man, at least I liked going on adventures on a single strong unit in RA2 skirmishes and to see how much stuff I could wreck with it.
why you care about the esports meme
there is more variety in dota but every meta has cancerous picks and overplayed heroes
>m-muh protons neutrons and electrons
what?
Pudge
No need to prove that normies are stupid, I already know that.
...
Complicated systems and interactions.
Using your bullshit knowledge to ruin someone else's day.
Waiting until someone fucks up trying to kill you and typing "?" in All Chat
Honestly, it kills me that only DotA lets you trash the other team. It's so much fun. Or shitting on the guy who talked trash early and lost late game
>all that shit just to conclude that you should stack BFs
nigga anyone with half a brain knows that
>Shadowblade crit cleave Kunkka
>taking a shitpost seriously
If you don't like the games, fine, but don't use nonsense to support your argument.
>Skill ceiling
NO
>1 game out 10.
I would say it's 1 out 50.
>playing dota for e-peen points.
Unless you're planning on becoming a competitive player, just play unranked with friends. I almost exclusively play with friends and I'd say I enjoy 90% of my games.
>Sup Forums
>friends
>hurr durr
playing mobas casually is even more retarded.
no one gives a shit about the game at normals and you don't get up on ranks which by the end of it makes the games better.
like i told before the games shines when both teams got people who know what they are doing you wont get this from normal games unless you play with 4 friends who are good too.
I have never played one and never will, but I've never heard read or met anyone who hasn't made MOBAs sound like a job. At least half of them hate them. To look at them, they seem to be RTS without any of the good elements of RTS.
I'm into some games that involve study and learning, but those involve setting real goals and achieving progress that isn't simply numerical. They also don't involve interacting with, or depending on, other people. And it seems to me that MOBA players are almost always super pissy and overserious. Possibly because when you pour hundreds of hours into something, it DOES become a job. Anons point out that playing casually is pointless, so I guess that means one has to commit to misery and endless labor to even start to see why people play it at all.
>playing mobas casually is even more retarded
What's funny is that I don't have the issue of never enjoying the game. Are you acting like it's impossible to find other people to play the game with that also know about game mechanics? Because if you are, you're retarded.
>tfw semi-competent and not a screeching manchild
>friends want to start a DotA team with incompetent players and screeching manchildren
>just want to have fun in unranked and not play solo pubs
>BUT YOU CAN MAKE A CAREER OUT OF IT user
Dropped like a bag of hammers.
>Waiting until someone fucks up trying to kill you and typing "?" in All Chat
Literally the only reason to play the game
You can almost taste the salt when they try to do the same thing because you died during a team fight later or something.
im just saying that after playing the genre for years and getting to the point where you know how the game should be played there is no much enjoyment in playing normal games where no one is expected or even trying to play properly.
I play smite with my SO and I cannot describe to you how I wish those braindead fucks with the garish lolrandom skins could see my "?" when they do dumb shit over and over
Dota is a thinking man's RTS, so you can't just mass more units and steamroll the opponent. You have to think about the consequences of your actions, like in chess.
If you judge a games skill cap based on linear applied mathematics, through memorization instead of application, then you are simply taking a simple concept and stretching it out to seem smart. Dota 2 is more like jeopardy than a sport, and it doesn't take intelligence to memorize thousands of things. Id this were the case, then computers would replace all thinking.
80% of the people don't play MOBAs because they are MOBAs, they play them because they like the characters, contrary to popular Sup Forumselief being a MOBA isn't a selling point
