Pro or Slim/OG?

Pro or Slim/OG?
I can't decide. Just want it for exclusives, mainly Bloodborne, possibly Nioh if it doesn't get a PC port.

Do you have a 4K TV? Pro
You don't? Slim
I got a slim today and it's more than enough.

I don't, but I'll be buying a 4k monitor some time next year.

>Nioh
NiOh is now officially the PS4 exclusive title so don't bet on it

I'd say get a PRO - it's as cheap as vanila PS4 was on launch and NiOh will get the 60FPS cap without looking like a PS2 game.
Also 1 TB harddrive by default.

Pro. It runs most games better.

Then go for the Pro.
I've been replaying a bunch of Pro patched games , 4K isn't native for most of them but they still look very good. You get used to it pretty fast but when you go back and play a 1080p game it hits you real bad just how it looks.

>NiOh is now officially the PS4 exclusive title so don't bet on it
Source?

I guess, I'm just not sure if I want to drop 400$ just for like 3 games. The Slim is on sale for ~250$ currently.

Not him but Nioh has always been PS exclusive since it was on PS3, and now Sony are confirmed to be publishing it. Seems like they want to put their weight behind it marketing wise. A PC port seems unlikely, at least for the time being.
gematsu.com/2016/11/sony-publish-nioh-north-america-europe-asia

Some games run worse on Pro than on PS4 which is fucking stupid. On the other hand some games offer better framerate which is super good.

That's just sad.

> possibly Nioh if it doesn't get a PC port.
Oh don't worry, it won't.

then the choice is obvious.

>Publisher is helping developers
>"that's sad"
what the fuck? How is that sad in any way?

Because it's on a platform he doesn't own, and he shouldn't be in this thread in the first place, but PCunts can't help but shitpost in console threads because they have literally no games worth making a thread for to post in.

how about a gun to kill yourself sonygger?

I can't believe this is even a frequent question

Pro, all other models are obsolete due to the negligible difference in price

>wahhhhh I can only afford one platform wahhhh stop enjoying things that I can't

Literally proving my point one post later

Should I, Sup Forums? I was going to wait because lolcanadiandollar but this seems like a good deal.

Is all shit in Canada this overpriced? The £ isn't doing well right now, but even in England we get better deals than that

What are you even talking about?
Of course it would be nicer if it was in PC, in this day and age are just a way to get you to pay extra for useless hardware, irrespective of the platforms you own.
Ideally all games would be available everywhere.
Afterall the only reason I'm buying a console is that there are a couple games held hostage.

slim

""""""""""helping developers""""""""""
They are helping themselves to more dosh, that's about it.

get the pro to future proof yourself till the ps5 comes out

Our dollar went to shit man. The pro itself is 499. Videogames a couple years ago were the standard 60 dollars and now they're at least 80 with some being priced 5 dollars higher for no apparent reason. I used to buy all the new games as soon as they came out but I just can't justify it anymore with these prices.

It's possible to help both yourselves and other people, you know. It's a give and take. It might be motivated by selfishness, but that doesn't mean it isn't helpful to the developers, and fostering good relations through deals like that is good for future business

That's all fine and dandy, but I'm not a developer.
What this alleged helping means to me is having to pay for hardware I don't really need and preventing me from ever enjoying the game with higher resolution, mods and better framerates, all the while tying it to a box I'll forever feel obliged to keep around if I ever want to play it again.
Overall a bad deal.

It's a win-win situation you retard. Sony gets an exclusive, Team Ninja gets double the exposure and sales they would have otherwise. The beta alone turned tons of people from thinking it was a shitty cheap BloodSouls ripoff to having their dicks dripping with anticipation.

>win-win
Didn't you forget about the consumer, who outright loses?

>pay for hardware I don't really need

Just how many exclusive games have to come out before you stop telling yourself this? Curious.

just ordered og ps4 with doom uncharted 4 and witcher 3
did i do good

Consumers who game exclusively on PC are outright losers anyway. Everytime, without fail. You'd just pirate it anyway since you have no friends to co-op with.

Yeah but it's only an issue when sony has exclusives
>lol nogaems
>gets games
>well thats just sad, this game should be available everywhere

Meanwhile, nintendo hordes entire libraries of games on their garbage hardware but thats a-ok here, despite literally the entire industry wanting them to go multiplat. Yeah nah.

That's exactly the point.
I'm getting the PS4 because of BB and Nioh, if Sony/M$/[insert publisher] wasn't greedy I wouldn't have to pay 400$ for a box that does what I can already do on another but worse just to play them.
And before you start crying PCuck - it goes the other way too - I'm sure there are games not available on your platform of choice that you'd like to play, but you can't because some executive decided they need to shift more units.

>PS4 exclusive
>it's just about PCucks anyway!
Whatt about Xbox owners? Nintendo doesn't count because of it's incapable current hardware.

Those are some avant-garde troll tabs.

OG, specifically the 1200 model. The pro runs worse, is designed worse, costs more, and doesn't have a 4K blu ray player. Fuck that thing.

Look, a bunch of shitposters who have no clue what they are talking about.

>They are helping themselves to more dosh, that's about it.
Well, yes. Do your know who KoeiTecmo are?
They publish/develop games like pic related, all small AA projects, mostly digital-only or on a small physical run.

They don't have the puclishing power necessary for an AAA game like NioH, if not for Sony's help they wouldn't be able to have it widely available, which is why Sony is publishing it in the west. What good is it to spend more than a decade on a project (yes NioH took more than 10 years with multiple restarts to reach this point) if in the end you can't even sell it to a larger audience? Making it online-only or a very small run wouldn't be enough to cover the costs.

>Of course it would be nicer if it was in PC
>in this day and age are just a way to geBLA BLA BLA BLA BLA
>Afterall the only reason I'm buying a console is that there are a couple games held hostage.
God damn you PC """""master"""" race types are REALLY naive.
More game would come to PC if PC had any publishing and marketing power. Alas, the only big manufacturers and holders are the console companies.

Valve gives you access to their store. That's it. They can't help you with massive physical distribution and manufacturing (which is all but gone on most PC games). They cant help you with TV marketing, they can't help you with their 1st party studios like Sony's JapanStudio or other connections such as various worldwide music departments (bloodorne is the only Souls game with a live orchestra soundtrack because of Sony's help, for example)

Valve doesn't do shit to third parties, so why would they release on PC? When a huge console manufacturer is offering to distribute your game and help on marketing (events like E3, PSX, TV spots, Store posters, etc) why would you say "nah, we can handle and pay for all that even though we are a niche japanese publisher/dev. I will port it to PC instead"

seems pretty good to me, as long as you're really in the market for a 4K TV this early.

I forgot those exist. But that's a fair point. While I'd call you a pleb for only owning one platform, I can't fault you for not having both PS4 and Xbone this gen. As someone whos wasted money on idort status for the past 3 gens, I can understand that most people don't have the money or even need to game on all 3.5 current gen platforms.

But regardless, exclusive games need to be a thing user. Competition breeds excellence and without it this gen would be even more pathetic than it has been so far.

Pro, it runs quieter, it loads practically everything faster and has a better WiFi receiver

Thats bullshit. Sony and ms are far less greedy than say, shitendo who not only horde entire libraries of games, but also NEVER share games on pc. Sony/Ms published stuff occasionally gets a pc release at least.

>don't call me a pcuck!

Fine, nintendrone it is then.

what are the chances sony goes against their word and ps4 pro exclusive games start becoming a thing?

I hate naive faggots like you above anyone else

>and preventing me from ever enjoying the game with higher resolution, mods and better framerates
The game wouldn't have been made in the first place if it wasn't developed for consoles or, in this case, exclusive to them. PC's market is too small to sustain any big game on its own, which is Why Crysis, Witcher, Farcry, Doom, Xcom and Deus Ex reboots between many more "PC" games wouldn't have been made in the first place if they didn't pander to consoles. PC market can not sustain it as everyone is busy playing Dota2 and buying microtransactions 24/7 while pirating big releases en masse

>Overall a bad deal.
Not a bad deal, the only deal. You'd rather see the game not existing or failing than have it only on consoles.

> if Sony/M$/[insert publisher] wasn't greedy I wouldn't have to pay 400$ for a box that does what I can already do on another but worse just to play them.
No, if they weren't greedy you wouldn't get games at all, and the AAA industry as well as a big portion of the AA industry would fucking die overnight.

You are bitting the hand that feeds you. You think consoles are the problem when in fact it's they who support the industry and keep it afloat. You, on occasion, get access to some console ports and are able to play them at higher framerates, mod them, and make porn videos with in-game models. But don't get the wrong idea, it's not you who supports the industry, it's consoles. You are the one getting console ports, not the other way around.

>I'm sure there are games not available on your platform of choice that you'd like to play, but you can't because some executive decided they need to shift more units.
I'm an idort so this isn't a problem. But If I wasn't, unlike you, I wouldn't bitch about it. It's a necessity.

don't make KT out to be Compile Heart, there the Bethesda of Japan. they can obviously do better and have the resources to do so but they don't, Omega Force is their Gamebryo and they're sticking to it.

>loads practically everything faster
only just barely, he'd be better off buying an SSD and the normal model.

The only time I've ever had only one platform to play on was when I was a child. As soon as I grew up and started earning more than minimum wage it was never an issue. I mean I could see how it would be frustrating to have games you want out of your reach, but as I said earlier exclusives need to exist for a reason.

Yeah it would be my second 4k tv my current one is in my bedroom hooked up to my PC. There's plenty of 4k content on Netflix/torrents and plenty of 4k games on PC and now soon on consoles as well so I don't see any reason to wait anymore.

If his only desire was decreased load times, sure.

only if the market isn't ready for a PS5 by 2020, like a global recession, or if VRreally takes off and theirs an Killer App that demands it, IE a full fledged AAA COD, FIFA, NBA or Madden VR game.

the money spent on a 500gb SDD would be more than the $100 difference between the systems.

And as the digital foundry video has shown, SSD's don't work to their fullest potential on console because there's a lot of backdoor processes going on with loading times, like video recording and whatnot.

PS4pro's standard hardrive and quicker UI already give you faster loading times over a PS4, the SSD is too much money for a tiny difference.

>don't buy it!
>if I can't enjoy it, nobody should!

Why not a Pro with an SSD? Then he gets even better load times, as well as better wifi, less noise, and increased performance.

a Slim and an 1TB SSD is more expensive than a Pro.

Considering pro as well but only for the performance boost. How many of those games that run worse in pro are there? I know about Uncharted 4 only.

Such bullshit that Bloodborne isn't getting a patch. Surely the increased performance at least means the game won't drop below 30fps, right?

I am facing a similar dilemma to OP and I have some additional questions.

I heard some games actually run worse on Pro. Is it true? If it is, what are those games?

And I get that the loading times are better, but does the framerate increase in any games on the Pro? I'm not going to buy a 4K TV so the resolution doesn't matter to me.

No. The pro downlocks to original PS4 performance whe the game doesn't support it

anyone know where i can find a ps4 for under 200€?

If I only plan to play Bloodborne, Nioh and UC4, I should get the PS4 Pro, right?

I'm going for a Slim for the fact that it's less loud

>Runs worse on The Pro
That's only lazy devs. They literally run it at the 4k resolution and downscale it to 1080P on a 1080P monitor.
The SKU is relatively new and most devs just use it to downsample and add extra AA(like in DH2)

skyrim
last of us
watch dogs 2
dude sex

i wouldnt be surprised if they were patched at this point though

>buying mid generation console upgrades
>supporting mid generation console upgrades

???
They didn't announce all games with Pro patch. And BB is SCE game. They should add patch in 2017

Right now only TLoU in 60FPS mode and Skyrim

Watch Dogs 2 and DeusEx initially were as bad as well, but they got patched and now run better on the PRO like all the other games that received the patches.

I have a Pro. Unless you have a 4k TV, just go with the Slim. Most games that have been patched for the Pro actually run at slightly worse frame rates due to always running in 4k and downsampling to 1080, so while you get less aliasing, you don't really gain any kind of real performance benefit.

Then there's incidents like I ran into last night with Skyrim, where I was clearing a redoubt and killing some foresworn, and the game just dropped to like 16 fps for about a minute.

That doesn't make any sense and I would like some proof. Bloodborne has frame dips below the 30fps because of the dated GPU. Playing on an upgraded GPU should fix that. It's not like the GPU has a switch you can flick that limits its performance.

>tfw bought the PRO despite Sup Forums telling that PS4 is shit and only got Bloodborne

>really fucking enjoyed Ratched and Clank, Until Dawn and Infamous Second Son

>Last Guardian, NiOh and Persona 5 soon

Still a bummer FFXV turned out to be shit though.
At least KH III and FFVII:R are around the corner.

How does it not make any sense? The Pro has a mirror image of the GPU that it just shuts off and it downclocks the CPU when you're playing an unpatched game so that it is effectively running on standard PS4 hardware. Sony did this in order to ensure complete compatibility across all games, regardless of which version of the PS4 you're playing on.

>Most games
2 games aren't the "most" out of those that got the PRO patches.

How does PSVR factor into that decision? Is PSVR even any good, or is it probably gonna be dead in a year?

It also has a better bluetooth receiver. I had problems with the older model not picking up signals from 2 meters away from the console.
Not just that, you also have less input lag thanks to it using the wifi to correct it.

>Is PSVR even any good
Consensus seems to be it's the most comfortable HMD to wear, but it performs the worst due to being tied to what is effectively a low-end laptop instead of a high-end PC like Vive and Rift.

Giant Bomb had nothing but problems with their PSVR. Tracking was all fucked up and games would constantly change their zero point for where you are standing/facing, so you end up banging into walls and stuff just because you have to keep moving around to keep yourself centered on were you're trying to look.

>Giant Bomb
PSVR is perfectly fine if you're not retarded and clear all the requirements (and play real good games like Rez)

They did like a 12 hours stream with the thing in all sorts of conditions well within the boundaries outlined by Sony. Studio lights on and off, various distances from camera, different camera positions, etc., and the problems persisted no matter what. Brad has also said he's had tons of tracking issues with his PSVR at home.

Do you guys expect a price drop right before Christmas? I really want a PS4 but I guess I could wait another month if it saves me 50 bucks

no way. Slim is out now at $299, that's the price drop. You might find some stores with a couple OG models that might be discounting them to get them off the shelves, but chances are since the Slim has been out since September, you're not gonna come across something like that.

Then why are some peoples also having a blast with no technical issues? What games were they playing?

>bought new og ps4 with 3 games for 250 dollers
heh
nothing personnel

How would a more powerful GPU be incompatible with the software? If a game is meant to run at 30 fps but dips below because of the hardware, better hardware should recitfy that. The game is still locked at 30fps, I'm not asking if the game will receive a performance or resolution boost, but better hardware should make it run at its original targeted framerate is was programmed for.

>The Pro has a mirror image of the GPU that it just shuts off and it downclocks the CPU when you're playing an unpatched game so that it is effectively running on standard PS4 hardware

This seems nonsensical and pointless and I don't believe it. Show me where you read that.

It's not so EZ and simple.

they complained a couple times during that entire 12 hours stream. The rest of the time they were saying it was fine. They have to complain about the faults and point them out alongside the positives, it's the point of the streams. You can cherry pick all you want but their overall impression was positive while acknowledging it was as good as the other headsets it was good for the price you paid.

I mean just look at cherrypicking: the video from crowbcat, watching that you'd think GB hated the Vive when that's clearly not the case.

Giant Bomb played all of the games available on release day, and they had problems with every game. The reason there are people who have had no issues is that like with any product, some units have issues and others don't.

>How would a more powerful GPU be incompatible with the software?
Console games are not PC games. They are designed to run on a specific set of hardware and that's it. Changes to that hardware has the potential to cause issues, so Sony took the safest path to keep the problems to a minimum.

You've yet to explain why not. Instead you've only offered some asspull theory that they used a special GPU that underclocks itself for no feasible reason. Even less "EZ and simple".

Games not patched for a pro upgrade obviously won't receive a boost in resolution or framerate, but running on better hardware means they should at least run stable at their initial target framerate.

alright so i have a sharp tv whose gimmick is that its 1080p HD would a ps4 slim be best for it?

ps4 pro overheats and turns off

stay mad vanilla cucks

>This seems nonsensical and pointless and I don't believe it.

eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-inside-playstation-4-pro-how-sony-made-a-4k-games-machine

"But what about deploying the additional Pro GPU power in base PS4 mode, similar to the Xbox One S? Or even just retaining the 111MHz GPU frequency boost? For Sony, it's all about playing it safe, to ensure that the existing 700 titles just work.

"I've done a number of experiments looking for issues when frequencies vary and... well... [laughs] I think first and foremost, we need everything to work flawlessly. We don't want people to be conscious of any issues that may arise when they move from the standard model to the PS4 Pro."

Also check out Digital Foundry's videos, unpatched games perform the same.

Pro isn't that more expensive and most games perform better there. Some have options to choose framerate over graphics. You will stick with this hardware for at least 4-5 years till PS5. I would go with Pro.

I got a slim, did I make a mistake? I'm never going to go 4K.

>Nintendo doesn't count because I say so

Wii U can play games at 1080p and 60fps. Idiot.

Slim, Pro is too risky when it comes to performance of games

Slim, the Pro is very underwhelming. Unless you have a 4k display you won't see enough difference to justify the cost.

I don't have a ps4, and I'm planning to buy the pro and use it with a 1080 ips monitor. No crappy 4k upscaling, and all games that have native 4k have been decebtly patched so they also have an improved framerate option for 1080p. This make the pro capable of what the OG PS4 was supposed to be capable of.

But I know for a fact that Bloodborne runs more stable on my Pro. It has not once dipped to the 20fps slideshow it used to on my launch system.

That's a placebo effect dude, when playing games without Pro support the system underclocks to old PS4 performance.

You're correct.

As are you.

This is just saying the extra power won't give a boost to all games. The extra power still does provide a more stable framerate. It doesn't make BB go above 30, but it stops it from dipping below so much.

>OG PS4 and controller are mirrored
>can't unsee

Nah man. The dips in bloodborne are pretty damn noticeable on OG PS4. Shame I can't find a comparison video, might have to make one myself. Certain areas than chugged along before simply don't anymore.

>when playing games without Pro support the system underclocks to old PS4 performance

I've yet to see any evidence of this. And from my experience it's false.
