Too bad the only thing decent is the soundtrack with the rest being utter garbage
It's great, anyone with decent taste agrees.
Why is she so perfect?
Probably my favorite PS1 rpg right there with Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean 2
It just doesn't get any better than it lore wise
One of the worst jrpgs ever made relative the the time and money it had poured into it.
>b-but you're just a trigger fag, nostalgia goggles, assorted non arguments
I played Cross in 1999 and Trigger in 2006. Didn't even know it was a sequel as a kid figured it was like final fantasy rules.
If you pretend it has nothing to do with chrono trigger it hets a lot better.
Doesn't excuse a pretty boring combat system and ugly/useless character design save a few "kid, serge, glenn, etc"
The characters in this game were atrocious. A turnip, a strawman, little kids, multiple furries. How did they fuck it up so bad? Not to mention the artwork for them was possibly even worse.
Did this game Robo and Frog as playable characters?
If not, there is your reason for it being shit on.
I can accept a turnip and stuff to an extent, but Nikki? A visual kei j-rock star? Fucking horrible.
It was all the rage during that time. Visual Kei and such.
They have a shitty human wanna-be swordsman who is named after Frog. He sucks. And Robo is dead.
Glenn is one of the few good characters in cross, idiot
Only if you jump through hoops to get him to dual wield at the end of the game. Until then he's average if not worse.
Meh. Game isn't even hard enough that it matters.
>playing fightercucks
>not using superior combat-magic hybrids like irenes and harle who deal lots of damage then use level 6 elements to rape the shit out of everything(till the game gets pointlessly effortless at the end with the top crated gear)
>make it a sequel
>do everything worst
>2/10 for having Chrono in the name
>make it a sequel
>it has nothing to do with the first game until the final 5 minutes when a 30,000 word essay is dumped on you explaining how it's related
>even then the explanation is half assed and stupid
Should've just been it's own new series. It might've gotten 10/10s all around then.
I thought everyone here liked Chrono Cross more than Chrono Trigger. I haven't played it but I've absorbed Sup Forums opinions through osmosis.
>Should've just been it's own new series. It might've gotten 10/10s all around then
Maybe.
But here you come from a game that was almost perfect while doing everything simplistic and then comes Cross, obtuse about every fucking thing, from characters to story, to combat system. What a goddamn mess when you put it side by side with Trigger.
If it's analyzed in a vacuum where you don't know something better was already made before, sure..you can rate it higher.
Critics loved Chrono Cross. It has a 94 on Metacritic. It's mostly die hard Trigger fans that hate it.
>save a few
and then you listed boring character design.
though Serges swallow alone saves him, from being bland.
>it's a "I wanted Chrono Trigger 2" episode
too bad you couldn't have experience it being your first RPG, it was very cool for me
I can't take criticism of the board who thinks BoFIV is the best game of the franchise
I didn't like the battle system. I got it. But I didn't like it. It felt clunky and unfun, especially the annoying element grid shit.
I thought maybe five or six characters were either okay to well designed, and the other fifty were dogshit tier. Which unfortunately cost any depth or characterization for all but a couple of characters since so much time is fucking wasted on the army of shitlords. For some reason Suikoden does it way better despite having more than twice the number of characters. I don't know how.
Being locked out of one of the only characters I wanted to get because I wasn't a dickhead to another character I liked. Fuck that.
The story was unrelatable for almost the entire game, making no sense until some very late plot revelations. I didn't feel invested in it, and I didn't care what happened to anyone.
Calling it a Chrono game but retaining nothing positive about the original is perhaps an unfair strike against it, but a strike nonetheless.
The music is amazing, the graphics were good for the time. Those are the two positive things I can say about it. Everything else about Cross ranges from mediocre to infuriating.
I'm glad some people like it. I didn't. And not just because "hurr it wasn't Chrono Trigger enough".
It's a good game up until the end where it resolves Trigger's one loose end in the most callous way imaginable. If you're going to resolve Magus' character arc, at least have him present when it happens. Fucking christ.
I was actually depressed when I entered the dead sea.
Fuck off Satch, Cross sucks ass and you know it.
>Takes time travel from a more personal perspective of seeing the same world just without your existence.
Squanders it all by making the plot about living computers controlling human existence and environmentalism dragons
>Values a shifting story based on player agency which would be lost focusing on a few people.
you get two choices that make and different over the entire course of the game
>Great variety of character designs
nice wording. Variety is big, but 8/10ths are shit
>Tons of different area designs all unique in it really is pretty
>Innovative battle system
It is innovative, that's for sure.
>amazing soundtrack
youtube.com
>Not Chrono Trigger enough, 4/10
replace "Chrono Trigger" with "good"
Suikoden had a consistent world design and made the vast majority of their characters make sense in the world.
Chrono Cross vomited on a dart board to decide what characters went in El Nido. Luchador Priest? Living Voodoo Doll? Ziggy Stardust?
The characters that actually fit in (Norris, Fargo, Glenn) were pretty okay, but that list is really short
>boring character design
I hate Kid as a character but her design is anything but boring
one of the biggest problems is how poorly fleshed out a large portion of the party characters are.
My favorite game of all time desu senpai
>play Trigger after Cross
>expect basically the same just 2D
>turns out it's a shitty generic MUH SAVE THE WORLD jRPG with a generic cast of mute hero, healer princess love interest, quirky inventor friend, tragic swordsman, stronkman, 3deep5u tragicmagic and token speshul not-a-human-but-the-most-human-of-all character
What a colossal disappointment
Even though the music is great and the pool of characters is one of the most ambitious things I've seen an RPG actually execute (let a lone a PS1 game), I just couldn't find myself to like this game. Between the Video Brinquedo aesthetic (backgrounds are gorgeous - characters...less so), lack of relevance to Trigger (other than giving Chrono the "lolyoudied" ending and letting you witness Robo's death), and wonky battle system, it just isn't fun having played its predecessor.
That doesn't mean it's a bad game, I just don't "get" it.
Why can't we ever have a light-hearted CC thread?
>kill everyone from it's prequel
>light hearted
Trigger killed them. Porre army invades.
The only time Cross gets threads is when they're started with the intent of shitposting, like this one.
The game is controversial as hell and for a good reason.
I mean, everyone in these threads takes everything super seriously
Let's just chill out for once
Triggerniggers exist, that's why.
I've seen about 2-3 frivolous, non-serious CC threads in all the time I've been here
I come to Sup Forums to have fun, not be angry about everything. I guess I'm in the wrong place
Then why not just ignore them?
>If you pretend it has nothing to do with chrono trigger it hets a lot better.
except the game reminds you that it's conntected to Trigger.
there's a guy that shares Frog's name and Robo is killed in front of your eyes because he was reduced to an AI locking a door and then was deleted
>Porre army invades.
except that is only confirmed in Cross
Cross is fun. I don't feel it existing makes Trigger any worse since they're both so significantly different.
Cross has a lot of issues though. Like throwing a shit load of characters at you and then developing like 3 or 4 of them and why the fuck wasn't Guile Magus in a mask.
>Doesn't get any better than it lore wise
>CC
>Lore
KYS senpai
The game starts nice and all, but it fails to keep you engaged in playing it through the end, i tried to play it like 3 times but never menaged to finish it
Meanwhile CT is much easier to play through, and i am not a CTfag, it's a solid 8/10 IMO, tons of better jrpg even on the snes.
Ost and graphics are amazing though.
would you?
How did Porre's army not get their shit pushed in by Crono and anyone else present?
bad writing
Dalton trained for 4 months
Must be the seethru pants
gameplay is shit
its a game so thats all that matters
jrpgs are a joke genre
Kill yourself
I don't think you can get thousands of people to agree on anything even if you tried.
Maybe the idea of throwing enough bodies at someone will eventually wear them down, but these are the same people who can use magic and took down a world devouring horror, and this all set in the same story where some furry manages to kill off yet another one of these supposedly powerful characters but somehow wants us to suspend disbelief at the idea that he can't somehow deal with some fuckwit from the boonies.
There's not enough fanart that focuses on her legs
Artists are fucking gay
I don't think there's any major group anywhere that likes CC more than CT, I don't know where you got that from. It's always a vocal and irritable minority that get uppity about their BUH MUH NIHILISM STORY.
>but somehow wants us to suspend disbelief at the idea that he can't somehow deal with some fuckwit from the boonies.
because Cross is full of bad writing
CC>CT
If-cha don't agree-cha, then suck-cha my dick-cha.
>wanting to fuck a dragon
Fucking scalies
Just kidding. I would without a moment's hesitation.
chrono niggers are the worst, don't listen to any of their opinions
her see-through pants are literally the only reason I became interested in this game
Is that weird?
Korcha is a fag
Not at all.
Harle and Kid were why I noticed the game.
>It's mostly die hard Trigger fans that hate it.
People who like playing fun videogames hate it too
Why are they holding hands?
Hating Chrono Cross is the epitome of shit taste. I really don't understand why it's so hard to like both.
>Thoroughly executed and detailed premise
>10/10 presentation and aesthetic for its time
>(music is still 10/10)
> poetic and cerebral dialogue from the NPCs and party members
>less extreme form of Xenogears syndrome, i.e some pacing issues when you get to the second disc
and that's the jist of it. Anyone who tells you it doesn't live up to CT is the filthiest of plebs.
because Cross' story shits all over Trigger.
Not to mention its a subpar game with WAY TOO MANY chracters
Maybe that's how the dragon's reproduce.
This exact same post is parroted so often that I can't take it seriously anymore
Even if it's true, it just seems like a meme now
>This exact same post is parroted so often that I can't take it seriously anymore
same with the "people only hate Cross because it's not Trigger" posts
Can humans impregnate dragons?
It doesn't "shit" on CT, it just uses some of its basic time travel ideas, motifs and premise as a launch point and does its own thing from there. It's a much more interesting continuation than a direct sequel would ever be.
I don't understand how to satisfy people on this point nor can I understand why anyone would care.
One of the best releases of the 90s and it gets immediately shelved because a loud group of faggots didn't get enough fanservice. It's fucking atrocious.
>shits all over Trigger
explain how so you can be proven utterly wrong
If you mean the sexual kind of fanservice, it has far more than Trigger does
>It doesn't "shit" on CT
most of the cast is killed off screen. How is that not shitting.
>One of the best releases of the 90s and it gets immediately shelved because a loud group of faggots didn't get enough fanservice.
blame the marketing team advertising it as a Trigger sequel
It didn't have "moar adventutes with Crono and Lucca-san! XD" as one of its selling points so people got mad. That's what I meant by fanservice.
except it had that as a selling point and did not deliver.
Its like how people hate Tokyo Mirage Sessions because it's not the SMTxFE crossover it was initially advertised with in the first trailer
>Not Chrono Trigger enough
Well, CT is one of the greatest games of all time.
>if you save kid she cucks you with Orcha
fug
You mean Korcha? He can keep her. They're perfect for each other
Major characters die in plenty of great stories. Grow the fuck up.
Despite all this, it still has important links with CT. "Chrono" could have been a loose prefix for a number of games but you faggots sperged loud enough to kill any future for the series.
I don't recall there being a single piece of marketing material loudly advertising Crono as a playable character. Tokyo Mirage Sessions wasn't a serious game when you compare it to mainline SMT, Persona, or FE. CC, however, outdoes its predecessor in breadth and presentation.
Gundam is still Gundam when it has the same staff and key themes brought to it, why can't Chrono change and evolve?
Why is she so perfect?
Your wife is SHIT
samefag
Is this the first CC thread you've been in
I remember reading that Dalton brought those magic elements to Porre, the magic you use in Chrono Cross. Not even Crono could stand a chance against an army equipped with something like that.
yes its so shit no one talks about it
>Gundam is still Gundam when it has the same staff and key themes brought to it, why can't Chrono change and evolve?
becuase the back of the box implied Cross was Trigger sequel.
As for Gundam, unless it's specifically stated each series is it's own thing.
Oh, so it's your first week on Sup Forums then
We have these threads a couple of times a week, and get ready to see the same shit in every thread
Imagine if every fan base was as retarded as Trigger's.
>OMG THEY KILLED BOROMIR
>OMG THEY KILLED DUMBLEDORE
>OMG THEY KILLED LEONIDAS
OMG THEY KILLED RIPLEY
>OMG THEY KILLED SUPERMAN FOR THE FIFTH TIME
>OMG THEY KILLED WALLACE
>OMG THEY KILLED OLD YELLER
I bet 10 bucks she prefers anal
I love it too, OP. However, I don't feel the need to get others to like it.
>kills the main cast
>kills FUCKING JOHNNY!
At least she's not wearing clown shoes
>fans wanted a CT direct sequel
>they got something different but still pretty good
>wtf I hate cross now
>literally 5/10 at best get out of Sup Forums if you like it
It's a 10/10 masterpiece just as Trigger is a 10/10 masterpiece
Well, it's not a very light-hearted game, for one. Oh sure, it tries to fool you into thinking that it's gonna be some comfy, shallow tropical island adventure, but then bang! Split dimensions, super computers, dragon gods, and Eldritch abominations. The game pushed the envelope in more ways than it could handle in the plot and world building departments.
You say that like it's a bad thing
The battle system is so unique I never found anything so satisfying and simple in most RPGs.
Having shit taste isn't an excuse son.
