The controls.

Tight movement and gameplay, amount of tools to use on the enemy AI

It copied SC Blacklist somewhat successfully. Shame about that horrible cover system.

this and music

The gameplay. I loved the controls and gameplay. Holy fuck the scraps of story pissed me off though. Remove the flashbacks to GZ, Paz, and this is a standalpne game that has nothing to do with MGS. FUCKING NOTHING. Just a bunch of kidnapped prisoners in the middle of the ocean thanking your character for punching the shit out of them.

The dynamic soundtrack.

One of the most impressive I've ever heard in a video game,

HAHAHAHAHAHA
no.

Gameplay and Venom is pretty handsome. No homo I swear.

Everything except for the story.

Gun customization having cosmetics and stats seperate so I don't need to wield some ugly hunk of shit with flashlights and lasers on the sides.

Fun to play, I guess. What it lacked in level design it made up for in the tight controls.

>and this is a standalpne game that has nothing to do with MGS. FUCKING NOTHING. Just a bunch of kidnapped prisoners in the middle of the ocean thanking your character for punching the shit out of them.

That's pretty much the point though. MGSV was a spin-off.

It wasn't so much about the story of MGS as it was building your own story.

Blacklist did pretty much everything better. Level design alone thriumps over anything seen in V.

Gameplay was pretty damn good.

It only felt repetitive because of the side missions and eventually the dissapointment and bullshit that was Chapter 2. But if you had a good imagination and didn't care about stealth or S ranks then you could keep the gameplay from getting stale.

This.

Also Helicopter music was great.

Let's not forget about the anime idol Paz posters as well.

And Kaz was arguably the best character.

Too far of a stretch, most missions are garbage and its pretty fucking lame there isn't side missions just available in the field. The outposts for the most part aren't that fun to go around in.

I think the fact they don't set up cameras or some of the avaliable defensive items for FOB invasions into the main game's outposts is stupid as fuck. Not till later in Africa will they use cameras

He's really handsome and I want to cuddle him.

The gameplay was great.
Graphics were fucking awesome, game ran with 60 FPS even on a fucking toaster while looking great.
Afghanistan and Africa were great designed though. A bit barren but still fun.
Would have enjoyed a third map somewhere in yugoslavia during the wars maybe?
Dosn't really fit into the timeline, I know.

Fultoning made everything way too easy though.

This is why I contend that GZ is a better game overall, none of the outposts in TPP topped the level design of Camp Omega.

GZ also had no fulton which made nonlethal runs more interesting

>gameplay was amazing, controls were perfect, everything felt right
>engine looked great and ran fantastic on any old toaster
>venom was hot despite his face being all messed up and having a horn
now if only this game had some fucking content, actually not even that, forget real content, this would be fun with just a world to play in that actually felt alive. Imagine sneaking in to a base using a battle between two factions as your cover like the beginning of MGS4, except it's happening dynamically

>Sprinting
>Diving
>Climbing
>Carrying bodies instead of dragging

That is all.

I didn't care about BL when it was released. Didn't hate it either but it was pretty meh overall.
Then MGS V happened and some fag kept spamming about BL (probably you) and now I'm finally replaying it and I actually have to agree. Everything from sidemissions to AI is much better in BL.

I'm sad that they couldn't even make MGO half-decent with everything they had going for them.

>most of the thread praising the gameplay
So metal gear survive might be fun?

>sneaking through active battle zones

this stuff gave me a bonner in MGS4 and would have been even better in V

Yeah, I don't see why not, tbqh familia.

it probably will be fun but it will be soulless as fuck

I would have liked to see Africa's jungled expanded, it was too small and not many missions took place over there

Probably for about an hour until you realize you've already done everything there is to do and the game was designed for Japanese autists who grind the same shit over and over to make a 1039812983910283GMP rifle that does 20 more damage.

Yup, its going to be soulless but its a co-op MGS5. I think the worst part is the zombie shit. Why couldn't they just do normal AI soldiers again?

>WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

>I think the fact they don't set up cameras or some of the avaliable defensive items for FOB invasions into the main game's outposts is stupid as fuck. Not till later in Africa will they use cameras

A lot of features are exclusive to FOB's. In fact, FOB invasions are pretty much Chapter 3. It's the third pillar of MGSV.

Afghanistan is the first map, you have sandstorms and enemies speak Russian.
Africa is the second map, you have rainstorms and people speak Afrikaans.
Motherbase and FOB's "is" the third map, but you need to play FOB's to really experience it. You have more linear levels, mist, enemies speak english, and there are drones and security cameras etc.

Chapter 3 is FOB's, Venom Snake sets out to disarm nuclear weapons, and by the end, PEACE is achieved. It's sort of hokey but it fits MGSV's emergent gameplay.

everything that matters

>The fucking cocksucker in the gameplay video before release only showed off the jungle and a small area just outside the jungle
>I thought most of the map would be like MGS3

>Game releases
>Playing through sand nigger land
>Finally hear I'm heading off to Africa
>Put on one of the many green camos available
>Land in jungle
>Holyshit.jpg
>Explore a bit then make my way out
>Slowly climb up a hill and expect a huge, lush jungle as far as the eye can see
>It's another empty fucking desert
What the fuck? Why are green camos even in the game?

wtf i like mgsv now

The cast

the intro sequence was incredible

>return to camp omega got cut from TPP
still mad, how hard could it have been to leave that shit in as bonus side ops at least

Controls- that transition from crouch to belly crawl is incredible
Gameplay and mechanics
Optimization
Voice acting-The enemy is here and he's on his knees!
Soundtrack- Needs Billy Idol's "Eyes without a Face" and some Police songs. Otherwise a solid soundtrack.
Enemy AI during combat phase- Initial enemy encounter AI is hit or miss. Some enemies will spot you at 100m in the dark, others are blind or deaf. However, once combat is initiated the AI is great. Sliding into cover, aggressive flanking, grouping of firepower, flares, mortars, radio nearby forts for reinforcements, ect.
Replayability and customization options

Agreed

Yeah with friends.

Also might be a decent stealth game, more than people might think. Because If they make ammo scarece then you will really need to be stealthy in order to well survive.

WWWwwwwWwWWWWw
Yeah...No

Afghanistan and Africa were both great areas. Could've done with maybe a third zone, like Nicaragua.
Story was mostly dogshit, but the gameplay was perfect.

I want to fuck Donna Burke.

>The way the OST has elements of 80's synth mixed with more modern elements to fit MGSV's neo-1980 tone.

I'm in the middle of doing a HUDless/Pistol and CQC only run right now. Holy fuck the game plays even better when you don't mark every fucking enemy in a base and just sneak past them you need to actually listen out for things and pay attention to the dynamic music changes for when an enemy is suspicious.

Dynamic music

I did my first playthrough this way, nobody understood why I liked Quiet more than DD.

>Actually having to look for her laser to see where the enemy she's pointing at is

Noice.

I really wish we could force OSP deployment without a mod.

It is a shame. I play on the PS4 so I don't even have access to the mod needed. That's another thing the fox engine is fucking amazing the game still looks great on the PS4 and still sits at a solid 60fps. Shame the engine is going to be used for just PES and MGSur

I thought the areas used in Where Do The Bees Sleep were pretty fucking great.
>that giant bridge with cool scaffolding
>the multiple paths on the approach to the area with the cave in the back, including a passage with cliffs at the top you can jump across
>the cave itself, which is one of the few large indoor areas and is very fun to make your way through

I think Kaz may be my favorite MGS character. He's in the top 5, at the very least.

>Dude trying to convince me that Venom = Jack
>All of his shit is based on ancient MSX games even Kojima let go of
>"Volgin let Venom go because he had pity with him, not because it wasn't Big Boss"
Kojima has a way of turning people insane with his shit.

Yeah, I play on a 2/3 year old laptop and I only noticed frame drops on the very highest settings. They fixed the optimisation with MGO as well so that now runs really well at the same settings.

MGO is still fun. Honestly, people seem to think that you need to run and gun, or be a sniper, to be effective. I play as a Scout (for quick marking and the middling health), and sneak around. I get more fultons than anyone on my team, it's fucking great sneaking around like a (Big) Boss.

It's a shame that we didn't get a huge interior base (Which is what I thought OKB-Zero would be) to sneak through. MGSV needed more content.
I've not played MGO in months but I played a non lethal infiltrator and would always come top of the board due to fultoning people that were high value it was really fun.

>Volgin had pity
Now that's actually retarded.

Yeah, this is a guy that is so pissed he is keeping himself alive by pure rage alone. He's so fucking angry he's burst into flame.

The whole revenge-powerlevels shit is out of whack. Mantis is influenced by the angriest/most-revenge-wanting person, right?

How is a flaming, raging, pure hatred undead guy beat out by a pissy little white boy?

They establish that he's especially drawn to other children when the niglet in The Devil's House temporarily hijacks Mantis so he can have a less painful death.

To be fair, Venom could never have beaten him in actual combat.
He just had that Einstein moment with "Water = Bad for fire" and managed to escape.

Fair enough. The theme of empty revenge is really prevalent in the game. Volgin doesn't get his man so just fucking...crumples.
Surely he'd just get even angrier that he was duped?

Kaz is a qt.

>not ramming him with a car and making him fall off a cliff

It's interesting that you hear whale noises during the boss fight with Volgin. It's what happens when Venom is about to take control of Mantis because he is pretty angry too. I know he is bad at showing it.

>Surely he'd just get even angrier that he was duped?
Yeah that's weird. Maybe he waited for a sign of the real BB to surface. It never amounted to anything because Mantis probably stopped just being a puppet once he got to be bros with Liquid.

Kaz but I say that for PW, GZ, and TPP. I would never replay PW for sure but GZ and TPP fuck yeah they are good games.

I like Skullface a lot honestly. Remember a shot through the heart can kill but a wounded hurts more.

I never thought of them as whale noises, I thought it was just fucked up noise to add to the music/ambience. That's an interesting take on it - maybe Venom was super pissed in that moment, but his control over Mantis at this time only amounted to whale noises - Volgin is more pissed so has far more control?

I don't get it though. He was clearly drawn to the source of his rage - he appears in front of Venom all the time. this is the guy SOURCING his life and his fire. Surely he'd feel a tie to the real Big Boss and be drawn to wherever the fuck he rode off to.

The Man on Fire had a lot more potential, but he (literally) fell flat. A recurring theme in the story, sadly.

are you literally fucking retarded?

what the fuck does BL have in common with MGSV? like, AT ALL? just that they're under the general umbrella of "military stealth game" and have levels in the middle east?

It's weird that Volgin awakened because the real Big Boss awakend from his coma but then he still gets fooled and follows the body double? I guess Venom himself believed he was Big Boss, even a mindreader would be fooled. Unless they can read hidden memories of a former life. But I'm no expert at psychic powers.

If psycho mantis gets affected by rage batteries why doesn't Kaz get any of his attention?

Let me just retcon this to make sense. Volgin took the bait, he thought Venom was the real deal. Correct mindset, correct look.
BUT
>Up close
>Grabs his balls
>Those....aren't...the Big Balls I remember....ugh... I guess you could say... I got quite bamboozled... *falls over*

>wonder why kaz is so bitter towards everyone including ocelot and even the boss
>listen to final tapes

ohh

Kaz is a bitch in all honesty
at least compared to Liquid and Volgin who kept themselves alive on pure rage alone

Kaz got dicked over by literally everyone

yeah, and what did he do?
go right along with the dick's plan, help train one of those dick's illegitimate sons, retired to Alaska, then got killed by the dick's gay friend

Those are the people who can't let go of what they thought MGSV would be.
I admit that some of the things Ishmael does are very Anti-Big Boss though. Not sure why those things were put in.
>Ishmael having no idea how CQC works, not the slightest
>That retarded rambo jump while firing
I believe Ishmael was planned to be an illusion first but it got scrapped or something.

The hospital is truly the only part of the game that even feels like MGS.

what would you have done in that situation?

Yep.
Visuals too, the engin did a pretty good job.
Otherwise I can't believe how quickly boring the game became.

thats not the question here, the question is the extent of Kaz's anger
and the answer to that is that it wasnt huge - he didnt betray or outright kill anyone like the others did

I liked that after Shining Lights he admits he was a fool for pushing his revenge fantasies on Venom, admits that Venom was right for never setting down the path for revenge himself, and acknowledges him as Big Boss for the first time.

It's just weird how such a good and significant line of character development is over a radio call in the ACC.

>he didn't go full flaming edgelord and kill everyone
that's a good thing fammo, he kept it together

and im not arguing against that
read the reply chain, the guy asked why Mantis didnt give a shit about Kaz

Shit. I'm gonna go do this right now.

im just replying to whoever said kaz was a bitch

>The dynamic soundtrack.
>One of the most impressive I've ever heard in a video game

Play Nier.

Or it was supposed to show that Big Boss as a character is just a legend that's overrated as shit? I mean sure he managed to escape but you as a player would have done things differently. You see him as a character this time though, acting as himself.

He was up for killing Huey.
It's strange how Miller never got control of Mantis. Like he's painted as this pained, angry, revenge-obsessed guy. But he never touches Mantis, even when he's within arms reach of Skull Face.

I mean the visuals were kinda ruined by garbage design. There were very few places that looked good, mostly in Afghanistan

wanting to kill Huey is perfectly normal though
hell, even Huey wanted to kill Huey

By the time Mantis has the chance to make contact with Miller, he's already found Liquid.

I dunno, this sounds like another "You just don't understand, we all were biggu bossu all along! Did you rike it?" thing

Huey's characterisation was fantastic and I loved his pure, endless denial. Combined with his voice actor, he was honestly a great villain.

>not MGS5 MGSV
MGSV
MGS V
MGS Venom
MGSV IS NOT THE 5th MGS GAME!!!

Yes, but this time instead of 60% of Sup Forums going "It's not a real MGS game!", about 95% will go "It's not a real MGS game!"

This.

I love how they managed to make a suicidal cripple the biggest piece of shit in the entire series

> What went right?

The trailers i wish the game had never come out, so we could have collectively imagined the greatness that never was based on the trailers. I Litterally had more fun posting in Metal Gear threads that year than the actual game./spoiler]

I liked the fact that even though he was a piece of shit who believed even his own lies, he was spot on about Diamond Dogs and was somehow the only person who saw them for what they really were.

>denial

About what? Didn't he already know Venom was not Snake?

Because that's how most of the story is dumped on you. That or "Boss, come back to Mother Base for a cutscene, fast!"

Huey please

>Constant backpedalling, endless lies
>Literally ignoring the truth to hide his own guilt
>Kills off dozens of men to prove a false point

Huey is the worst fucking villain in all of MGS. At least other villains knew they were wrong, or were just fighting for something different to the heroes. Huey was an outright cocksucker who wouldn't even admit it.

Oops, read Huey, but understood Kaz

nvm
