1060 is fine now but nvidia's card have a bad reputation for extended support.
I'd say stick away from their lower end, 1070 is a smarter choice.

Those 90% of people are getting a GTX 1070 or GTX 1060.

There's uses to the GTX 1080, mostly making sure you can consistently hit 1440p 144fps at the highest of settings. I have a GTX 1070 and while I can hit a high framerate on pretty much every game at the highest of settings I have real issues hitting 144fps on more demanding of titles (at least without tinkering with the graphics settings).

According to 3D Mark benchmarks the 1060 is about a 50% improvement over the 770.

I suppose thats pretty good. Unless I can get a 1070 on sale I might go for it.

Honestly it's worth it as an upgrade eventually but at the moment there's not a large requirement.

I don't think DXMD even looks that great. I mean it's a huge leap over Human Revolution but compared to other contemporary games it's nothing special.

If you have Rise of the Tomb Raider check that out as well, I think it looks fucking great and I don't even have it maxed out or using VXAO.
