I'm a few levels into Thief 2. Was Constantine in the right trying to bring about the dark project?

play thief 1 and find out yourself
I finished it 2 days ago. He seems evil there, but now all the trees are dead and everything is sooty and shitty.
yeah.
Constantine and Karras have opposite views.
they're both bad though
kids are sick and the mechanist's tower blots out the sun. I don't feel like I saved the world, I feel like I helped fuck it. Karras must be their leader, haven't met him yet.
You'll know him when you hear him.
No
The whole point is that Constantine and Karras were both disrupting the balance. Constantine's plan is an excess of magic over technology, Karras' is an excess of technology over magic
>Constantine wins
Apemen and toxic spiders kill everyone
>Karras wins
Toxic fumes and robots kill everyone
I noticed ape heads in the meat shop in that warehouse mission at the beginning of Thief 2. Are those ape man heads? Desperate times.
ape man heads have a nice going price. makes for a great living room conversational piece
>that's right, toddy, remember when the trickster turned out to be real and turned some nobleman's guards into ape beasts for his ever growing army of transdimensional creatures that was to help usher in a new age of darkness? Yeah, well, I use it to hold down this papyrus now.
>quaint, isn't it?
So is that what the Keepers whole deal is? Maintaining balance? Or are they strictly observers?
...
they keep balance, also historians.
Assuming you want to play deadly shadows, that game focuses on them.
Guffaw.
lol nice one m8
Oh okay, yes, I'll be moving onto 3 after I'm finished with 2.
Deadly shadow is shit storywise. We will never know what looking glas wanted to do with garret after 2, only that stupid glyph shit that felt like a fan made story.
Is the game still fun? I know it's Ion Storm and not LGS but I heard with the sneaky upgrade that it's pretty good.
yeah
Gamplay is fun. A bit clunky but still. Some levels like the craddle are top tier spooky but the story is such a turn off for me its hard to replay it
That's a shame, the story in Thief is really quite good, I thought. After I finished Gold, I went onto youtube and watched all the cutscenes again. A lot of things made more sense this time around like the various scriptures.
A refreshment mister Garett?
I found Karras to be more subtly sinister as a villain than Constantine, while Constantine was more overbearing and managed to give that impression quite effectively, given the limited number of times he's encountered in the first game.
TheEyeOfStone is such a great channel, love how that and TravisWhitsitt exist.
Karras is essentially hitler in personality and mannerisms.
Constantine is more akin of 19th century depictions of lucifer.
The whole fucking point of both Thief 1 and 2 can be summed up in "extremism is stupid, harmful and plainly evil".
So of course Constantine was wrong, because he represents the extreme of chaos and anarchy, where everything should fall, regardless of consequences. Meanwhile, Karras is wrong, because he represents the extreme of "machine order", where literally everyone is supposed to die.
And then in sequel, they work together, but without any cliches regarding enemies banding together. LGS was just too good at their job to last...
... fucking Eidos, ruining vidya since '98
Its complicated.
>Karras is essentially hitler in personality and mannerisms.
in a way, but he has that comic book villiany goofiness to him that surfaces on occasion while I think Hitler gave off to his inner circle a sort of morbidity from his ego
just shitty musings
also, I love the thought that floats around that the writers from Valve borrowed Karras' "What have you done/accomplished Garrett" line in the last level and gave it to Breen in HL2, thought it's a common cliche in of itself
Of course fucking not. The entire franchise, at least until reboot, was about maintaining the balance of powers, rather than letting this or that side gain the upper hand.
In fact, the entire shit going in Thief 2 is caused by Garrett getting rid of the Trickster, so the whole system goes from one extreme to another due to the power vaccum
Thief thread I guess? These are always comfy.
I'll provide the icebreaker
I'M GOIN' TO THE BEARPITS TOMORROW
Blessed are the forged ones.
Beacuse they dont know fear and they are fueled by KARRAS.
I don't understand
Play the first game. It's not as good as sneaking/thieving like the Metal Age (a rare case where the sequel is entire league better than already legendary original), but the story is just as good.
Here, had to dig a little to find it.
psshhhhh
you couldn't pay me
>a rare case where the sequel is entire league better than already legendary original
I like how certain Thief fans like to state this without any hint of restraint, as if this is universally agreed within the community
I personally find the two games to be like two parts of one whole game, with subtle flaws in both but neither being miles better than the other. I think TG has a better atmosphere and ambience than Metal Age
Maybe because those "certain Thief fans" are the people who value first and foremost sneak mechanics over ambient atmosphere? Thus Dark Age is burned for them due to the amount of fighting in it?
It's not a rocket science.
Vast portions of the second half of thief 2 are really boring though.
Second game was supposed to be about how inaction is an action. How people who put their heads in the sand or think they shouldn't get involved are either cowards or selfish.
Yes, better fight zombies
>he doesn't appreciate the last three levels in TDP
sucks to be you, but objectively Thief Gold is just as stellar as TMA
If Gold is involved, then you are right.
