I tried playing this to see what the hype is all about.
The maps were really narrow and claustrophobic and don't allow for flanking or ambushes or sniping (oustide the designated segments). i just went behind cover and popped out to get a few shots at enemies at medium range when they came out of cover.
The setpices were cool , but they get old when you just have a shooting gallery in between. It may be nostalgia but I feel like the Maps in COD2 were bigger. Does it receive these plaudits because of the multiplayer?
Kayden Stewart
Yes, of course. And the multiplayer was very good. It was fast and slick, but not so much over the top like all future entries.
Jacob Edwards
Because it's easy to play and was the first fps for a lot of people.
Adam Sanders
It is innovative in that it was the first to have dull lifeless hand holding level design shooting galleries, with gameplay that amounts to nothing more than point and click, then hide behind cover. But I dont see how that is a good trend to start, all the games it inspired were shit. Even when it was new I didn't like it but I think it was a lot of people's first online FPS and thats about it.
Sebastian White
for some reason the gun doesnt fire straight BUT THERE IS A BUTTON FOR FIRING STRAIGHT
for some reason the character moves slowly BUT THERE IS A BUTTON FOR FULL SPEED
decades later and people still haven't figured out that ads babysitters are designed to make handheld controllers feel more interactive, people unironically play them on the PC
Angel Roberts
Eh, you getting constant back up felt like you were fighting an actual war and not a DOOM guy.
OG Infinity Ward has also made the audio PURE SEX.
The set pieces are cash as FUG.
The narrative isn't bad either; for MW 1/2.
What OG Infinity Ward did to the War/FPS genre is like what WebMs did to GIFs.
Took them to the next fucking level.
Aaron Cook
The maps in CoD2's campaign were indeed bigger and less linear. Same with MW2. CoD4's campaign only gets lauded above the other CoD games' because people were somehow impressed by its story and drama.
Matthew Morales
It was the last COD game where people still gave a shit about the singleplayer
Also the MP was good and didn't have so much feature bloat as the later CODs
Carter Turner
You're too young to remember, kid
Carter Sanchez
It was the RPG elements in the multiplayer. Console players hadn't experienced that before.
Nathan Davis
It came out at a time where there we so goddamn many WWII shooters that everyone was desperate for a new setting.
Pic related was a great game released the same year that got horribly shafted because MUH WWII
Anthony Murphy
>OG Infinity Ward has also made the audio PURE SEX. I dunno, I lot of the guns didn't sound like powerful aside from snipers and high caliber handguns. None of them were as wimpy as say, the Halo 3 assault rifle but none were as satisfying as the Battle Rifle.
Adrian Sanchez
Mostly multiplayer i think? I thought the campaign was garbage even when i was a dumb casual teenager.
Zachary Rodriguez
The only reason this game is so popular is because it was the first big modern shooter in a time where every shooter was WW2.
It was a decent game but the MP was a aidsfest of granade spam.
WaW was the best CoD MP.
Leo Nguyen
Rainbow Six Vegas and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter were released like a year before CoD4 and prior to those you had Battlefield 2 and the SOCOM games. It's like the people who repeat that "breath of fresh air" meme only play EA and Activision shit.
Liam Reyes
Historical shooters pretty much destroyed the FPS genre and lowered standards to the point that people think boring whack-a-mole garbage with nothing but the same gun reskinned 20 times and given slightly different stats is a good game.
Brandon Davis
Just like CoD2, it was console trash. Anyone that thinks CoD2 or 4 are good games should be banned from this board. >grenade indicators >regenerating health >low time to kill >90% reduction in recoil just to be playable on a controller >exp >perks >showing enemies on the minimap
Wyatt Ramirez
They are real now
no fake sound effects
Luis Garcia
Even promod barely solved any of CoD4's issues. The game was fundamentally casual shit.
Brayden Cox
Haven't played AW, BO3 or IW but something sound off about the gun sounds. I dunno if it's an improvement but it's definitely different. Every game doesn't need to be Quake 3, my guy.
Grayson Hall
>Constant back up CoD AI teammates stopped being useful when CoD2 released. They're literally just window dressing to create more light and noise, and contribute nothing to the battle itself.
I've been playing a lot of older games lately and it's amazing that the two things that really stick out is:
A)HUDs are way less cluttered
And B)If the game bothers to give you AI teammates, they actually bother to participate in the battle and reliably get kills/defend themselves. Halo was a pretty good example of this, especially 2.
Jayden Green
I never said it did. Anyone who played CoD1 knows how much of a downgrade CoD2 was. The gameplay was a massive downgrade just to be playable with a controller.
Dominic Nguyen
Nigger did you even play the older games? That's literally all CoD or any other 'historical' shooter ever was. 4 is literally just a reskin of 2 with killstreaks.
Jack Cook
CoD1 having server-side hits automatically disqualifies it
Gabriel Ross
Wasn't CoD 2 a PC game primarily? I know there was regenerating health but I thought that was to accomidate level design?
Thomas Green
CoD1's netcode was basically Quake 3, it was basically perfect. CoD2 was designed around listen servers. It was actual garbage. No, it was clearly designed to be played on a controller. >Reduced recoil so controllers could actually play >Grenade indciators for shitters playing on TVs with poor audio >Show enemies on the minimap for shitters on TV with poor audio >Low time to kill to duration so aim required is low
Ryan Perez
>COD threads Is Sup Forums planning on /Madden General/ next?
Christian Hernandez
>he doesn't remember RAMIREZ, TANGO FOXTROT THAT OMEGA CHARLIE! threads
Sebastian Hall
>Cover shooter >Multiplayer shooter >Third person shooters I should have said "WWII shooter campaigns" I guess.
Chase Mitchell
And that's alright because you're the 'hero' they're simply ambiance.
Except for Honey Badger, she's a mean bitch.
Blake Smith
There was blops general for months after the game came out
Isaiah Nguyen
>have to adjust your aim based on ping >basically perfect
Dominic Davis
cod 2 came out for pc first, then a year later it came out for the 360, I think.
Leo Anderson
It was the first of the "modern shooter" which everyone still ape to this day.
William Morris
This isn't true, why would you even post this?
Wyatt Gonzalez
He probably meant a month later.
Connor Scott
it wasn't the first modern shooter, battlefield 2 precedes it by like 5 years.
Levi Walker
It was the Halo of tacticool military shooters, it took a bunch of ideas and put them in one polished package.
>dramatic edgy campaing with scripted shit happening around you >aim down sights >one button knife >multiplayer focus >rank/level/exp system >customization >lots of unlocks, attachments, perks and shit >keeping track of statistics >kill rewards/streaks Before CoD4 multiplayer games were mostly just shooting guys in a level, you had no progression of any kind other than you improving your own skills. After this game came out every game company started doing this or at least took influence and borrowed elements from it.
Asher James
It's pretty shitty ambiance, in my opinion. CoD shatters the fuck out of immersion for me because if I want to I can stop shooting, stand in a corner, and watch teh AI literally just shoot into the dirt or into the sky to purposefully avoid killing anyway.
I mean if it was a game like DOOM I'd understand, but these games have this entire shitty 'muh authenticity' selling points because the gameplay itself is repetitive and lackluster crap. The least they could do is actually back that shit up and have the AI participate. You can be the 'hero' regardless, the original CoD had AI that actually did shit and it didn't detract at all from the premise that you were some super soldier killing half the wehrmacht on your own. Even with the AI helping, the player is still way more effective.
Halo got it best, though, without question, as far as AI teammates outside of dedicated Squad-Tactical games are concerned.
