Why can't we role play as aliens in Andromeda?

The significance of humanity as a species in Mass Effect has always been downplayed (with obvious exceptions being the human characters on the Citadel, Feros, and the Terminus Systems storyline in ME2). But Earth and humanity is no more important than the rest of the Galaxy. It's part of the reason the "Take Back Earth!" hype for ME3 felt so out of place, since in game planetary story like Rannoch and Tuchanka were so much better than the endgame Earth mission.

Why, in a game where the significance of humanity(and quarians+turians+krogans+etc) is even less important than it already was in the original trilogy are we still locked into human only characters?

I mean, if there's any human character whose worthy of being the protagonist of the next game, it'd be someone like Conrad Verner, not literal whos like the Ryder siblings.

Because "science fiction" which is essentially just planetary romance like Mass Effect is always about a human trying to make his or her way in an odd world going ball the way back to fucking John Carter

>But people can't sympathize with the motives of non human-like aliens that's why you can't play as some interesting species

>But people can't sympathize with their characters if they're not human.

I'm not even kidding, that's been BiowEAr's excuse since TOR, just diluted now.
And I know, I know, it's absolute bullshit because you've got Blue !Humans WITH SOME PROSTHETICS or Sort of reptiley guys who are basically human in every other regard (except for some alergies) and Sort of Reptiley guys who talk fast and die young. As I said, bullshit excuse when the aliens are so close to humans in all traits but physical.

Can't say this didn't bother me either. I was hoping that this mass effect would finally let us play as an ayy. It would have opened up whole new dynamics in how you wanted to play, and of course encouraged actual role playing. Obviously Bioware in no longer interested in even making things appear to be RPGs.

Because the lard asses retards need them to be human so they can self insert.
It's the power fantasy

Why can't I role play as a transexual? Bioware are sexist, speciesists CIS scum that are trying to pander to the LGBTA community, but in reality have no idea what we want. I just want to fuck a cute blue alien with my boypussy.

Fucking race traitors I swear

Don't even say that shit ironically, there are people who will take it serious and worse, people who will capitulate to the first.

Because they'd be increasing the development costs for every playable option they add. It would be cool but you already know the answer.

You must be retarded or like everyone else on Sup Forums, havn't actually played the game. Humanity is THE special race. In thirty years they go form discovering a mass effect relay to beingn a galactic power on par with turians/asari. The humans are so special the Reapers want to make a humanreaper in me2.
Mass effect is a humanity fuck yeah series and you are retarded for thinking otherwise.

Bioware didn't invent that reasoning, idiot. It's as old as science fiction.

>The significance of humanity as a species in Mass Effect has always been downplayed
You mean they said "dude humans aren't special lmao" and then made pretty much every Codex entry about humans a love letter to how special humanity is

>Human company invents medi-gel. Medi-gel is illegal under Council law but is SO useful it gets a free pass and is used absolutely everywhere
>Humans are told they can't have as many Dreadnaughts as the other species because of arms treaty. Humanity invents entirely new Not-Dreadnaught class, the Carrier, that relies on using Fighters, which is revolutionary and also handily bypasses the restrictions on big ships
>Alien diplomats are seriously considering Humanity to be the next Council race, despite being the newest species (only 25 years since first contact) and the fact the Turians, the last Council speices, had to help win a galactic war to earn their place
>Humanity actually earns a place on the Council over the older species who literally run the economy because they sacrificed 8 ships defending the Citadel

But nah not special guys, for real

>has always been downplayed

Did we play the same series?

>ywn play play as a Turian at C-SEC in a Deus Ex style RPG in a large semi sandbox hub solving crimes and terrorist plots, sometimes going off on away missions to planets and Omega.
"Feels bad, Human"

What the fuck do you expect.
Mass Effect isn't a real roleplaying game. More of an action shooter with some telltale style """choices""" thrown in.

It would require fuck ton of more work and they would have to record dialogue for all of them individually.

who knows, maybe we're really the best sapients in the galaxy

>Why can't we role play as aliens in Andromeda?
Who the fuck wants to play as fucking aliens, Emperium of Man always

I want to play as female quarian and get gangbanged and abused by filthy old men.

You don't really need a videogame to do that

>downplayed
Nigga they're shilled to fuck and back.

Literally every council race is fucking terrified of humans.

Pathetic fleshbag chauvinism. I want to play as perfect, immortal machine.

I've thought about making a quarian suit and going to comic con or something, I'd love to get rammed by stinky geek cocks in the bathroom for hours. That's the beauty of the quarian suit since no one can tell you're not a girl.

But all those things were developed before First Contact. And the last one was only because of Shepard, you know the super special MC, who would be super special regardless of species.

Humans have an innate ingenuity, they approach things differently than the rest of the galaxy. The Batarians did what they did because they knew they didn't have a single chance against humanity. Think about the Salarians, highly intelligent, but their way of thinking is predictable, Turians have a rigid command structure, with little wriggle room, and Asari life stages make each one a practical carbon copy. That's why the Yahg Shadow Broker was able to overthrow the previous power structure, they were incapable of thinking how he thought and plotted.

Bioware did a big post about this.

99% of people just want to play as humans so its wasted resources to give players other options

I think is retarded that the galaxy has such a long history. This must be the worst iteration that the reapers have ever witnessed. Nice job Protheans!

Feminism is more important than racism

Multiplayer was good enough. I wouldn't expect them to hold any shred of quality across a single player storyline with that deep of a character customization. I mean everyone here loves DAI, right?

I dunno, depends on your body and how efficiently you can keep your junk out of the way. Plus I think people would be suspicious that you only take it up the shitter. Not that they'd probably care, mind you

>99%

Did they use a poll or something.

I honestly think it might be because of voice acting. The coolest aliens in the ME universe have voice patterns distinct from humans you meet.

You can't make this like a Dragon Age game where you've got an American/English accent for every people of thedas.

>depends on your body
Not really, you can put padding on the suit to make you look as feminine as you want.

Also I have somewhat girly figure in general, when I was serving my duty in the army some guys would eat my ass and fuck it cause they said it looks like a girls butt.

>have voice patterns distinct from humans
The vast majority of them are just voice filters

I shall defer to your greater experience of being a filthy cum loving whore

Go back to /meg/

>That new Femshep
Holy fuck her pickrate is going to plummet even further.

KROGAN

I don't think Bioware's remaining audience has a problem with soggy knees

True. I don't know what issues might come with applying a voice filter to a line not originally recorded with the filter in mind.

I dunno, I think at least some of the filters were built around the unedited audio. In ME1 there's a couple lines where Garrus' filter just isn't there and he sounds normal enough, just a little weird because he hasn't got the growl going on

I imagine it's easier to pick the VA first, then muck around making a filter that works for them

As much as I hate making excuses for nu-Bioware the work involved wouldn't justify it. If those aliens weren't an exact match to a human body wise then they would need entirely new skeletons including new animations for that skeleton for pretty much every action in the game. Then on top of that you'd need to remodel all the armour, taking clipping and all that other shit into account. If you have to do that for multiple alien races then it's a complete waste of resources.

>it would be waste of resources
Would it though? It would be really impressive and add a ton of replay value, most of all it would make character customization way more varied and interesting. It would receive more attention from media outlets and impact the review scores positively for sure.

They are swimming in money anyway and backed by EA, it's so sad to see big companies that don't spend the dough to make a true next gen game, it would pay back itself. People want games to evolve, it's 2016.

This is your Miranda tonight

Honestly, they're doing us a favour skimping on animations

Imagine unique animations for all races

Every scene would be like going to the circus

Because the studio is fucking lazy and just wants more of your money.

/thread

Watch that webm with this

youtube.com/watch?v=lV7evRdBTxk

Most if not all of the characters in ME are like human, they share the same skeleton so they wouldn't need to make new animations at all.

You can swap your squad members in any way you want in ME1-3 and they look just fine in cutscenes.

These are mocap animations. Your problem lies with the actor, not the technology. Those animations are actually very good.

t. someone with 12 years experience in 3d animation

honestly it just looks like you want some excuse to hate on the game and are grasping at straws

by mentioning John Carter you reminded me of Cugel's Saga and its delicious blend of genres now I'm gonna read that shit again

I'm willing to bet the guy in the middle is gay.

How old is the Asari one? Is she a 70 years old preeten virgin?

It looks as if they took the mocap actor, broke their feet so they look perpendicular to his torso, then made him run for their amusement.

Basically it looks fucking terrible and I don't care who the fuck you are.

Well if it's mocap maybe they should have hired some decent actors.

PeeBee

Man playing Dragon Age Inquisition was already like watching a train transporting a circus crashing in slow motion over and over in an infinite loop.

>Humanity Fuck Yeah always a thing
>in ME1 figured it was going to go a different route
>ME2 shits all over that and Humans are now the best at everything with no weaknesses just like 90% of all sci fi settings
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

But it's already there in ME1, they made only the slightest effort to put across the idea that humans weren't special

This. I prefer it when humans fill a niche role or some archetype instead of being the generic good guys. Any games or settings that do this?

???
Did you forgot to take you medicine ?

It was already a thing in ME1 with humanity's unprecedented rise to power. No other species got that far that quickly. And yes, the aliens are spooked by this.

Most of the humans you interacted with were from the Terminus System or C-Sec or Cerberus.

Hell the Alliance was always in the background, only existing in ME1's final battle or to be rekt'd in the intro of 3.

I don't get why players were supposed to care about Earth in particular though. Aside from that one mission in ME1 on Luna and the Mars mission in ME3 it wasn't even a major priority

As much as the head designer of this game, and Bioware as a company, hates whites, why put them at the forefront of the marketing for this game?

>But people can't sympathize with their characters if they're not human.
>Implying that's not just an excuse so they can be lazy.

Bioware couldn't be fucked to keep Elves and Dwarves in Dragon Age, like FUCK they're going to be bothered to add the little vocal effects to each voice-acted line Ryder does depending on which race you pick. Or add little changes to the dialogue to reflect that you aren't a human.

It's all posturing you daft cunt.

Yes, let me play as aliens and also make the galaxy map play like a space sim where you can run into pirates and smuggle some contraband asari whores among other things only to get busted by the space cops which will result in an immense space dogfight where the destroyed ships drop some items which I tractor beam on to my cargo and sell to improve and tinker my space ship.

Why can't games be cool anymore?

>I don't get why players were supposed to care about Earth in particular though
Get out of here Batarian scum

You want Dragonball Z. Humans are worthless! :)

Dragon Age dwarves were so good in Origins

I have no interest in roleplaying as an alien.

there is no factual base to build a ficitional experience from.

I can't comprehend life in Centuries or Milennia, I can't comprehend life with redundant vital organs, or a brain that perceives time 2-3 times faster then the human mind.

Or through non-bipedal sensory mediums.

Keep it Human. We build empires and architectural works of art that outlive us. That's fly as fuck.

Is it me or has Bioware's games become more american/modern over the years? I'm not sure if it is the tone or something, maybe the way characters speak. It breaks my immersion.

Because Krogan sex scenes would blow your little mind with their three headed dicks.

I hope Ryder is Space Hawke at least. DA2 had a lot of shortcomings but Hawke being the most defined protagonist is not one of them.

It just seems so stupid not to put in the time and effort to have non-human protagonists. You'd think if Bioware is ballsy enough to resurrect a franchise that should have died years ago, they'd at least begin it again with a bang. I don't get why they don't think players can't relate to non-humans as long as the non-human protags are well written. How shallow do they think people are?

It seems a bit contradictory of Bioware of all companies to assume people can't empathize with other cultures or races or species just because they're different.

>I'm a boring, unimaginative fag: the post.

Or an architect. One of the two.

too bad they ruined everything about them in DAI

Playing aliens in ME is not that different from playing rubber-forehead aliens. There's literally virtually no psychological difference.

In the mass effect universe humanity is basically one big species wide Marry/Gary Stu really. Billions of years this reaper shit goes on, countless cycles, and previous civilizations wiped out. Then boom, humanity pops up and in what is essentially a nanosecond on the time scale of the extinction cycles goes full nothin personal kid on an entire race of massive skyscraper sized sentient machines designed for the sole purpose of fucking shit up.

Kelly best girl

>Humans are told they can't have as many Dreadnaughts as the other species because of arms treaty. Humanity invents entirely new Not-Dreadnaught class, the Carrier, that relies on using Fighters, which is revolutionary and also handily bypasses the restrictions on big ships

You have no idea how much Mass Effect fanfiction keeps pushing this retardation, like how no other species could think of anything remotely like a carrier.

But you can comprehend being a special forces soldier? Fighting for your life on worlds covered in ice or lava? Being the commanding officer of a whole ship and crew?

No? Because you haven't done any of THAT in your life either? What a fucking shock.

You are bringing gaming as a whole down with your shit opinions.

>empty hand in one frame
>next one there's a gun in it

Krogan _ _ _ _ so good

>downplayed

Did you even play those shjtty games? They are so "humans r special snowflakes" it makes me physically disgusted

Looks like Bioware hasn't changed with their skillful employment of cutscenes and weapons.

Other species use fighters. They don't have their own carriers because it it, or was, a semi-realistic setting where fighters get creamed by anti-missile lasers. No one else was going to do it because it was fucking retarded

So what are the chances andromeda will even be good?

I want it to be good since i loved Mass effect, mostly the first one but 3 threw all that good will away.

i just want it to be good and i know it wont.

You act like that codex had any significance whatsoever to the game itself. Bioware didnt even read what they wrote, see mass effect 3

just do like this
wait for people to test it
it propably will be shit.
and don pre order

>But you can comprehend being a special forces soldier? Fighting for your life on worlds covered in ice or lava? Being the commanding officer of a whole ship and crew?
It's possible though and it's the future in the game too so it presents scenarios that could be real, but it's not possible for you to be an alien.

It's going to be DA:I in space.
Did you like DA:I?

Short answer: no

Exeptions being warhammer 40k and maybe warcraft

There's nothing incomprensible of aliens in ME. You may as well replace them by independent human colonies with other cultures and alliances. The differences in biology don't make enough of an impact.

Yes. I've experience in Law enforcement and Military.

So I can extend my mind beyond that.

I can't enjoy a game playing a fucking Krogan, those motherfuckers have redundant organs and a camel hump to store months of vital nutrition that essentially makes them autonomous of sustaining consumption.

I like my games to have Hard Sci; It's a basis in Science Fact that promotes a higher sense of disbelief.

>Did you like DA:I?
Who didn't?

Yeah, but most fanfiction authors don't actually think ahead at all.

They just look to make something look cool and awesome and cool! Fuck thinking ahead, fuck logic and reason and rational behavior.

I think what I hate most is that they always make Turians as these crazy fucks who just go around bombarding and invading on First Contact.

>It's possible though
Not for you, faggot, which is the entire fucking point. You will never do a single one of those things in your life.

So you haven't actually experienced ANY of those things directly? Okay, good to know.

Just look at the title of the game

They fucked up milky way so bad at the end of ME3 it was only natural to move on to the next galaxy.

Like the fucking tyranids... except with genres

Starcraft's humans don't seem too special. In fact, they are rednecks and mutant scum that Earth's government would have exterminated had they not used them as guinea pigs.

it's the disgusting terranormativity yet again

considering it's almost 2017 I would've expected Bioware to do better
