Playing like this really makes you consider every area of the game, and pushes its mechanics to the limit. It can be frustrating and hard sometimes, (especially the groznyj grad escape) but the total blast you'll have is so worth it.

It'd be more like if you had a conscious AI program, and the computer hosting it ceases to function, so you reinstall that program on a different, identical computer. They are fundamentally identical, and it would be impossible to determine if you created a new consciousness, or if you actually moved the old consciousness into a new body

Correct me if I'm wrong but when "Snake" is on the Helicopter and Raiden assumes Pliskin is Snake. Plisken never fully admits it until Solidus comes out. It's why Solidus is so certain of himself because he knows Plisken is not Solid Snake.

Solid Snake only shows up at the end of the game and when you meet the bomb disposal guy. Everything in between is Pliskin.

Think about MGSV. Venome Snake looks identical to Big Boss and is implied to be Big Boss, but is actually revealed to not be Big Boss but to be his own person in fact. In the case of Pliskin it's either a huge coincidence that him and Solid Snake bare so much resemblance, or some kind of conspiracy that he's a clone of Solid Snake. I personally think he's just a good Marine who happens to share a resemblance to Solid Snake and the reason for him looking like Solid Snake is for the player to be able to connect to him easier.

Also this. If you recall, Big Boss looked very similar to Solid Snake in MGS3, but looks different in later games. It's to save money.
