Never played a Persona before, anything I should expect or any tips?

Invest in your party members social links.
Look up the school answers. No one will blame you.
Complete Marie's social link before the end of december.

Don't be afraid to use a guide for the sidequests because some of them are obtuse as fuck when it comes to actually telling you where you should go or who you should talk to.

Besides that try and finish the dungeon segments in as few visits to the dungeon as possible, as it consumes time and gives you less time to work on your social links.

Learn how to manage your time. Persona 4 and 5 can get kinda overwhelming when they finally let you start doing your own thing. Buy lots of those SP restoring pops in town at the start of the game. Do the fox social link as much as you can. Go for party member social links first, especially Rise.

Persona 1 is fucking garbage. The leveling system is atrocious, the game is easy as shit, there's only 2 characters worth even noting and while the story strays from MOST smt cliches, it's boring as fuck. Play persona 2, 3, or 4. Play any SMT. Only play persona 1 if you just want some background on 2.

I did that earlier this year. Played 1-4 and like, a third of 5 so far. The first is my favorite despite the clunkiness. Innocent Sin has some great characters and a pretty interesting plot though, it beats Persona 1 in those areas, definitely. Persona 3+ just didn't feel like Persona though, it felt like a spin off series with the same name.

ideally you wanna get as much done each trip to the tv world as possible. If you can clear the whole dungeon in one or two in-game days that leaves you loads of time to focus on social links

and most importantly Naoto is working with the killer
