It's good, right? An upgrade from ORAS?

It's good, right? An upgrade from ORAS?

Handholdy as fuck, but not as bad as XY in my opinion.

Its way too cutscene heavy for my tastes, I already disliked the game taking control away from you every other city to introduce you to garbage in previous games, this is just fucking tedious.

That being said, I fucking love they finally stepped away from HM garbage and just gave you rental pokemon that you can call and ride anywhere for those techniques, so I don't need to constantly lug around HM pokemon I have no interest in, or dilute my primary pokemon movesets with the HM garbage.

It's a slow start from what I've played so far, but it just makes it feel like an actual RPG.

It's nice to not have to keep water and flying pokemon with me for surf/whirlpool/waterfall and fly.

Cities and Routes now feel like actual areas rather than just grids with obstacles.

It feels a lot more like Dragon Quest than Pokemon. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

If feels way to linear routes and towns just feel like short straight lines until the next cutscene takes over and plops you down in the next straight line.

I don't know who should I believe

The game is no more linear than any other pokemon game. Just now instead of being gated by the need for HMs, your gated by cut scenes and people in your way for the purposes of story.

Both are accurate. Whether you like it more or not is a personal thing.

If you turn off exp share it can be challenging at times, more so than Gen 6. This seems to be a common experience.

Anyone else dropping hella frames during totem battles. I've never had a Pokemon game lag on me until this one.

Yes, Gamefreak hammered the 3DS's capabilities with SM.

This is their attempt at making an actual story for once, turning it more RPG like, thus there's tons of stopping points and cut scenes and talking. If you don't like that sort of thing, you're going to have a bad time with SuMo.

EASILY the best Pokemon on the 3DS, and arguably as good or better than Black/White.

That said, it IS handholdy as fuck

They increased polygon counts by a ton for future proofing models, most likely for the Switch release of the game. Since the 3ds isn't exactly powerful, totem battles, double battles and some outdoor scenes get bad frame lag.

is it possible to lose? my first pokeman game, and picked the owl. didnt change any settings, still on first island.

I'd say they succeeded in making the world feel like a world, less like "This plot exists for the purpose of me playing this game." Like... Characters have relations and backstories that don't relate to you.

At the same time, you don't feel that involved in the plot beyond being the person doing everything. Which makes sense, Gamefreak doesn't like to put words in the players mouth so they can... well... roleplay and self insert. They need to find that balance of the plot happening to you, while also not disconnecting the player from it.

I liked it in BW, because nothing prevented me from imagining everyone had my friendship with N wrong, and I was allowed to turn down Reshriam and beat his ass and break his dreams.

This is the first Pokemon game I used X-Items in, I've heard this is the first many have wiped in, and Nuzlockes declare this game one of the fucking hardest to Nuzlocke.

I fucking love it. They broke the formula in so many ways. I just wish there was a mode for people who have played pokemon before because all the tutorials

Those fucking poses are gay as fuck, is there any way to use Z moves without them

Definitely an upgrade from ORAS. It has clever moments of real challenge for once, even with the use of EXP share.

The biggest downsides are its linearity and the large amount of cutscenes, but the writing is actually decent to make up for it.

Feels more like an actual JRPG than a traditional pokemon game which is a plus in my book but it's also probably why some people dislike it.

Personally it's the best pokemon game I've played in years and one of the best games I've played this year.

My biggest problem with it is that the trials need to be longer and more involved than "wander around this area and fight a few pokemon". There's a good basis for new stuff to replace the gyms but it needs some polishing.

Almost everything else is great.
Story is great.
Characters are great and have actual development.
Every female character is cute as fuck so you'll be extra happy if you're a waifufag.
Overall 9/10 for me.

Not exactly an upgrade, different but just as bad

The quality of life adjustments are god tier. being able to keep track of rain, stat ups etc. Just reduce a lot of the white noise when it comes to battle.

oldfag since 1996 here, everyone shut the fuck up for a second!

it's the best one they have made. That is all

I'm a yurifag though. Will I still enjoy it if I choose chicken-chan? I'm only concerned with her and Lillie gaying it up.

My expectations weren't that high to begin with so it shouldn't be anywhere near as bad. Don't think the cutscenes will bother me and people have been reporting harder battles anyway which is what really matters.

I am also a yurifag and yes I enjoyed it. There isn't anything explicitly romantic between Lillie and the MC but you could interpret some of their interactions as being "close friends" especially near the end of the game.

>garbage easy totem instead of gyms
>barely any trainers with more than one pokemon
>no challenge
>awful UB designs of pokemon from other dimension (the dimension is the digiworld since they all look like digimon)

Easily the worst Pokemon which is sad because they have been pretty bad lately.

Definitely one of the better titles and a big improvement over Gen VI. Hell even the main story throws a few challenges at you every now and then.

Still has problems; not enough new pokemon, alolan forms are just sort of there and way too many legendaries.

It's very different from any pokemon game, which I happen to really like.

I'm a big fan of the GCN games too
