Whatever card is cheaper. They are both essentially perform the same even with dx12 so it's really up to where you can find it. Please ignore the upcoming shills on both sides.

neither

save up those extra hundred dollars and get yourself a 1070

nvidia cucked me hard. Their performance doesn't last as well a year or two down the road.

go AMD, GTX 970 is my last nvidia card

rx480

it will be more future proof
this i got assfucked by my 770 it had terrible DX12 and Vulkan support and DX11 performance started declining the very moment i bought it back in 2014.

The 1060 performs better, even yhe 3gb version.

The RX480 runs hotter and requires more jucie but is like 100$ cheaper.

>tfw still using a 570 and it works just fine

Rx480, like niggas already posted here, nvidia cucks their old cards when new shit releases.

Just make sure to get either the MSI or XfX with their aftermarket coolers.

Avoid stock, powercollor and sapphire like the plague, specially powercollor.

I own pic related and it's excellent, never goes passed 63c under load.

I upgraded from a 570 to 970 just because of mortal kombat

go play it, its unplayable with that card

>performs better
hehe

Well it does, nigger!

What about the 280X 3gb version?

It's real cheap... IS it worth it?

>Mfw my rx480 shits ALL over the 1060 in Doom.

It was my old card, it can still play games, but expect 45ish fps on high graphics with it.

Yeah now post your fps from dishonored 2

I'm a 740 poor fag myself

Don't care about that game.

AMD cards had bigger boosts in doom on Vulkan, would make sense seeing as Vulkan was built from AMD's Mantle API.

Ok, try any game that isn't doom then.

And i really hope it replaces DirectX.
shit runs like a fucking dream.

>specially powercollor.
Didn't they have an issue with their cheap MOSFETs blowing up?

RX 480. Between the slightly superior 1060 performance in some situations, but the extra 2gb ram and the fact that AMD seem to squeeze more performance out of their cards as time goes on, it's a tossup.

On the plus side for AMD you get Freesync. A lot of monitors already come with it and they will just keep coming as manufacturers shift to DP 1.2a.
G-Sync is expensive.

If you want a more meaty but still middle of the road option, the Fury and Fury X are sold for 250-300$ at the moment

Doesn't Deus Ex: Mankind Divided run on vulkan? That game runs like shit.

Yeah, that shit is a timebomb.
Powercollor has always been a piece of shit company too.

youtube.com/watch?v=4nEbpn6NKPQ

>tfw 1070 is $200 more in Canada

No it does not.

The only games with Vulkan support currently are Doom, Talos Principle and DOTA2. There also a vulkan port of quake out there if you want to count that.

>the Fury and Fury X are sold for 250-300$ at the moment
>buying Fury cards
>ever

Wew lad.

Nah DX12, actually runs quite well these days considering how fucking gorgeous it looks (minus the animations)

what's wrong with them? And don't argue that you can't run Half-Life 2 with only 4gb, cuz you can

Whats wrong w/ Sapphire?? Arent they like EVGA equivalence to AMD??

Thinking about the RX 470

Wikipedia says it does

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_Vulkan_support

doom uses intrinsic funcs. something that will never be put into any other game ever unless AMD pays for the man hours to implement it.

paying more than $200 for a card that has =< 4gb vram is fucking retarded

not op here
should i get EVGA GTX 570 1280MB 320 Bit for 65 $ is it worth it?

For the Linux version that is coming in 2017 you stupid fucking faggot.

rx 480 or 470

youtube.com/watch?v=ujSNMyh7trw

>Vulkan support announced for first half of 2017 for Linux
it's not out yet. Hopefully they add Vulkan to the Windows version, it would be the first time you could do an apples to apples comparison of Vulkan vs. DX12 for the same game.

I would like to see it more, console centric developers will probably ignore it but PC focused developers like Valve, Epic Games, Crytek and Croteam have stated they are putting support for it in their engines.

What are you going to be playing?

They have to be watercooled just to be kept within a decent temperature range, and for the price you might as well just go for a 1070 considering you're going to get equal, or usually better, performance.

>sapphire

Get fucked cuck. I've only used Sapphire and they've been fantastic cards every single time. Never had a single issue.
There's nothing wrong with them. They're great cards, they run cool and they perform well.

>> xx60 to xx60
or
>>upgrade
Pick one op.

Seriously. Get a 980 over a 1060.

Witcher 3 is my fav

What can a 980 do that a 1060/480 can't? Cost more?

Why the fuck would you buy a 980 over a 1060?

Does the RX 470 experiences the same temp??

so you are sayng 60 bucks is not cheap for 570?

They're the same price. You can get either one now for about $200 on sale.

1060 has better Direct X 11 performance. If you run Windows 7 or 8 or no Direct X 12 games.

480 has better Vulkan and Direct X 12 performance if you have Windows 10 or plan on upgrading.

1060 runs better in most games, 480 will most likely continue getting good driver support. Neither are a bad choice and will do 1080p and 1440p maxed out.

It should be playable now after the XL update.
QLOC took the port.

This 1060 is 224$, should I get it?

>Zotac
I wouldn't, but go ahead.

>amazon.com/ZOTAC-GeForce-Compact-Graphics-ZT-P10600A-10L/dp/B01IA9FEOO
get 3 gb instead of 6
>6gb is a meme

Holy shit my mom built her computer with a 640 something like 8 years ago
My mom has a better gaymin computer than you

ITT faggots cryng over 1060vs1080 while im sitting here with integrated 4600 intel graphics

fuggity fug

>640 better than a 570
are you retarded
don't even bother answering because we all know you are based on literally everything about your post

>he believes performance degrades

fucking kys negro

>"my mommy's video card has 70 power points more than yours loser!"

Are you mentally challenged, son?

AMD optimizes down the road so their cards wind up performing better

nitro is fine tho

If you don't mind spending the extra on the 1060 get that. If you do get the 480. It's pretty simple kiddo.

traded my 390 for a 1060 and it was a small upgrade but feels like a god tier upgrade to me. no more amd display driver crashes is like heaven.

i'd recommend the 1060 just because it's nvidia and their software is superior to amd. no constant display driver crashes in gta 5.

I'm looking to upgrade my son's gpu. He's currently using a Radeon 7870.Looking at the 1058ti because it's fairly cheap. Any other recommendations? Keep in mind,I don't need anything too powerful as he won't care about massive performance.

Remember NVIDIA is "The Way It's Mean To Be Played™"

It does.

Nvidia has to write drivers specifically for the 700 and 900 series to get performance, and they don't do it for new games.

1050ti is probably the right card for that scenario and thats a pretty decent upgrade over a 7870. I'd say go for it or spend the extra money and get a 1060.

this might be the case with stock reference gpu comparisons but in the aftermarket nvidia still dominates after that 18 month period it takes amd to get their drivers support fully going.

jokerproductions tested 2 of the most popular 390 and 970 at around the same pricepoint and found the 970 performed better by upto 10 fps in bf1 (amd optimized game). stock benchmarks would make you think the 390 was better by upto 10 fps but the aftermarket (which 99.99% of people buying a gpu look at/own) shows another story. duderandom84 also has many videos of a 780ti asus matrix compared to a 1060, 970 strix and a rx 480 and it beats them all in most of the games tested (dishonored 2, mafia 3, bf1 etc). stock benchmarks would make you think a 780ti is worse then a 290 right now.

my personal conclusion is that nvidia clock their stock gpu as low as possible which would make them just about beat the amd competitor for the first 18 or so months till amd fix their drivers but also because of the power consumption targets. the aftermarket is very different though and those OC aftermarket gpu still put in a good showing for nvidia.

Just looked at the prices for the 1060,it's more than what I want to spend for his pc lol. He doesn't care if it's 60fps or 30fps but he will notice the graphical upgrade. Thanks, user.

>He doesn't care if it's 60fps or 30fps but he will notice the graphical upgrade.
Definitely the right choice then.

you have to factor in cpu. you don't want to be buying a 1060 only to find that you're going to be bottlenecked by a shitty phenom cpu or an old ass i3.

Looks like he's using a FX-6300, no idea how it'll hold up with a 1050ti.

Not gonna comment on the 1060 since I don't own one, but I've been extremely satisfied with my 8gb 480 for the past couple months. I have a 1080p/60hz monitor and basically everything has been way above that 60fps limit at full settings. It's run pretty cool and looks great. The only things to really give it trouble so far have been Crysis 3 and GTA v but after dialing down the MSAA a bit I'm back above 60fps. And the extra vram has been nice for skyrim/gtav higher res texture mods

>fx 6300

you're pretty much limited to nvidia with a cpu like that due to lower driver overhead. i'd say a 1060 3gb would be the absolute limit for a pc with that cpu. a 1050ti would also be a good choice though. if you do end up going for a 1060, overclock that cpu if you have a good enough cooler.

Shit, you must be me. I was wondering the same thing today. I spent time not eating turkey today staring at Newegg.

get a 1080 u save a lot of money in the long run gaming at ultra at 2k or more.....

>6gb is a meme

ya, besides the games that are currently out and already pushing 6gb. Saying 4gb vram is enough is one thing, but saying there's no difference between 3 and 6gb is retarded. Nearly every game out today uses over 3gb vram when it's available and shits on performance when its not

Thats a sexy ass card. I know the MSI one is better but damn thats hot

Never heard of PowerColor before.

newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131706&cm_re=rx_480-_-14-131-706-_-Product

Dunno if it's worth saving 30 neetbuxs.

hot is right!

you underestimate how far nvidia have come with their color compression and texture compression tech.

hardwareunboxed.com/3gb-vs-6gb-gtx-1060-vram-comparison-more-competitive-than-you-might-think/

take note that these were all tested at 1440p. 1080p uses much less vram in comparison.

isn't the 8gig like the same price though?

All the ones on Newegg right now are like 219ish. I saw some good deals at Frys so I might drive on down tomorrow.

It might be ok for games out now, but will have a lot less lasting power compared to the 6gb 1060 or 8gb 480

Buying an overpriced card in favor of futureproofing is dumb. It's better to buy midrange and sell your card when you decide to get a new one. A 1080 is only worth it if you have a 1440p or 144hz monitor. It's more reasonable to buy a 1060 or 480 and trade those cards for better ones when your performance isn't as high anymore.

Not OP but I was looking into the same 2 cards, but am stuck with an old 5870

I currently have a Phenom II x4 955 so would I be better off just waiting and upgrading my CPU to something decent?

I'll eventually be upgrading both so just wondering what would be better to get first

obviously, but it won't be a problem anytime soon. developers won't make a game which can't be run by the masses, and according to the steam hardware survey 90% of people have dGPU with 1-2gb vram. if they start making games which require an absolute minimum of 4gb vram to even boot up, then they're looking and hundreds of thousands of lost sales. the literal worst case scenario for anyone running a 3gb card like this or older 2gb cards is the lowering of texture settings, but that's it. it doesn't affect the core experience of the game.

the 1060 isn't as affected by shit tier cpu's when compared to a 480. you could buy a cheap zotac 1060 for now and then splash out on an i5 later on down the line.

Doesn't Dishonored 2 play like shit on the 480?

Also, AMD fellas: what recording software do you use? I like Shadowplay for how seamless it is, using it mainly for webms, but I haven't found a substitute for AMD cards

OBS, I'd assume.

Dishonored 2 plays like shit even on a titan xp, it's just shit optimization

I have a Phenom 965 and I play on 1280x1024, my current gpu is a 240 (I had a 560 but it broke), I'm going to buy a 1060, money is a bit tight right now, if I buy the 3gb would I get too much fucked down the line? When I get an intership I plan on upgradin it better

Not really. The 3GB should be good for the next few years. The most you'd have to do is lower some texture settings.

It really is. It's miserable, I get like 20-30 FPS on the Dust District level outside, and I'm on medium (also on a 760 like OP).

I have no idea why they switched to id Tech when UE3 worked very well for them for the last game

This might not be related but I don't give a fuck

my current case is way too fucking big to be sitting on my desk so I'm thinking of taking the good stuff out of it and getting a Mini-ITX or a Micro-ATX. Any suggestions beyond suicide?

Currently have a SATA controller card so I can use an external RAID so a spare PCI-E x1 is preferred but not really necessary.

do I get an rx 480 4 gig or an rx 470 8 gig

They're both the same price

Damn that's a good deal. Whats the big difference between ITX cards and normal ones? Runs hotter?

480 is going to be more powerful. its unlikely that you will ever go over 4gb.

neither

save up those extra two hundred dollars and get yourself a 1070

480 for sure. The difference in VRAM doesn't really affect performance at all in current games.
